Yep, it's finally that time of the year again: Day 1 of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, June 4th 2012.  Once again, here is a suggested forum thread for discussing the day's press conferences (this year, Nintendo's will be put up later in the Nintendo console section of the forums).

I'll try to keep the above schedule updated as pages I can actually link to go up.  Naturally, if you all find links I don't, feel free to post them and I'll update this post accordingly.

Now, everyone played nice last year in the associated threads, but let me just reiterate: we all want to watch the press conferences, and perhaps have some friendly chat along the way.  That includes the moderators as well, so remember that when you act like a jerk here you're also making it hard for them to watch the conferences.  So please behave yourselves, and we can all enjoy one of the biggest gaming news days of the year.

EDIT: Props to UncleBob for finding a format for that schedule that didn't cause the forums to flip-out.

You realize I'm the only "moderator" right?  Since vudu is dead and everyone else is "staff", I can only assume that was a pot-shot at me...

I remembered you complaining a few years back when Pro and his cohort were being jerks because moderating their antics was keeping you from actually being able to enjoy the conferences.  It wasn't a pot shot, just a reminder to maybe some newcomers this year that you guys like to enjoy these things as well.

by the way, I'm tinkering with the format of your post now.  If you don't like it, we can revert it back.  Might take a minute or two.

Yay.  SMF Table code sucks.  Doesn't know what COLSPAN is.

Anyway, I added a link to a handy Time Zone Converter that might help some folks. :D

As this is Nintendo World Report, might I request that you throw up additional timezones for the benefit of the European readership?

Here in the UK, we are on GMT+1, so...
Microsoft: 5:30pm
Electronic Arts: 9pm
Ubisoft: 11pm
Sony: 2am, Tuesday

It's gonna be a late one. If you are in Europe, add one or two hours on to those times (unless your country does not employ daylight savings time). You probably know what your timezone is, so you can work it out.

Sure, if folks want to put up their respective time zones (as you did), I'd be glad to add them to the list so long as it didn't mess up the formatting or make the list too huge.

EDIT: Added GMT+1 times to the list.

I'm glad they are getting the boring stuff out of the way on Day 1. This means on Day 2 when its Nintendo's time to speak we will have a full day of awesomeness without any interruptions from stuff no one cares about.

Now what did I say about playing nice?   ::)

I'm personally a bit disappointed that Konami could only be bothered to do a half hour video conference, considering their press conferences tend to be the most hilariously bad of any given year (ex. "Wan Millwion Twoops!", "EXTREEEEEEEME!!", etc.).  Well, if we're lucky maybe Ubisoft will come to the rescue with a repeat appearance by Mr. Caffeine.   ;)

I'm glad the conferences are broken up this way as well, though.  I only have to create one more topic for Nintendo, rather than another one as well for the Day 2 stragglers.

Hmm I'm most interested in the Sony conference, but it's the one I'll least likely be able to watch seeing as it'll start at 10:30 in the morning here and I have a buttload of stuff to get done tomorrow.

The great thing about the E3 press conferences is that, no matter whether they are good or bad, they make such a spectacle out of it all that it's always interesting. If the presentation is great, you get swept up in what's happening, and if it is terrible, you get to laugh at the blunders and follies.

Anyway, I feel I should point out other streaming options. I know that in past years, some people (including me) have had problems with the feeds suddenly freezing. GameSpot and Giant Bomb also have streams should any of those options in the original post stop working for you.

I actually really liked Splinter Cell Conviction, but this just looks like they drained all the style out of it and inserted generic Modern Warfare.

3 Microsoft exclusives now, starting with hack & slasher God of War clone "Ascend: New Gods"; continuing with some sort of Tron-esque motorcycle game; and ending with some Kinect thing I don't understand.

Looks like it's Resident Evil 6 time.

Resident Evil 6 looks like a good action game.  Don't know about a "good Resident Evil" game, especially with all the Quick Time Events and stuff blowing up.

Kinect-based Angry Birds clone Wreckateer doesn't look...terrible.

EDIT: the South Park RPG looks like more of the South Park I'm already "meh" about.  They definitely nailed the look of the show, offensive humor and all.  Unfortunately, I really don't like that aspect of South Park.

What shocked me most about Microsoft’s game line-up was that Dance Central 3 didn’t have any shooting. What’s up with that?

Also, what tablets even qualify for Smart Glass? I’m guessing iPad doesn’t count.

Well, Black Ops 2 looks good, but it's a Treyarch game so I expected that.  I liked the variety in play experiences and the branching mission structure.  Very modern warfare-ish, though.

Overall, not the world's worst press conference, but god it was boring for about 30 minutes or so around the middle of the conference with the SmartGlass and TV stuff.

The forumers at Penny Arcade are remarking that E3 isn't for "us" anymore with all the non-game and casual stuff that's focused on.  But then who is E3 aimed at?  Because the people excited about Usher being in Dance Central are sure as **** not paying attention to E3, or even know what it is.  They spend so much time on casual stuff at E3 but the casuals aren't there.  Reveal the casual stuff for like the Teen Choice Awards or some nonsense like that.  The geeks are the only ones that are ever going to pay attention to E3 so stick to the core stuff.

I don't mind the Dance Central stuff.  I just wish they actually demo-ed the game rather than just a dancer putting on a show with some game footage in the background.  I feel sorry for Harmonix being forced to milk that franchise into the ground.

Incidentally, I think Tomb Raider was the highlight of that conference.

I have a feeling this is what Nintendo was trying to do yesterday with their video.  I'm predicting their E3 presentation will be more tailored to the actual audience.

What?  It wasn't Halo Prime: A Metroid Saga?

Not enough scanning.  ;)

'Meh' to that conference. I know that the Xbox brand has branched out into all sorts of entertainment and that almost half of 360 usage is non-gaming related, but I have to question whether E3 is the venue to go into it in depth. Maybe it's just me being stuck in the past when game consoles were their own separate thing, but I'm sick to death of hearing about how I can watch films and TV, listen to music, browse the web on all these devices when I've had devices that could do all this for years. Is E3 the appropriate place to discuss this stuff? I used to think not, but I suppose times have changed.

When there were actual games being shown, I'm with broodwars in that Tomb Raider was easily the most compelling demo. I'm also curious to see more of Black Ops 2, although I guess the parts that make that game potentially interesting can't really be demoed.

WTF happened to those "Rare" titles that were supposed to be in the works.  Ascend was the only game that somewhat caught my eye until they announced the developer.

Pretty damn week show for MS IMO.  Hopefully Sony has better offerings.

They stated that RE6 DLC will be timed exclusive for 360 as well as the first DLC for Tomb Raider.  I don't think that really matters, but they said it like with Black Ops II.

I noticed with some amusement that when that Microsoft rep was naming all the great studios of Microsoft, he did not mention Rare.  My how that studio has fallen.

They have The Last of Us, Sly 4, and God of War Ascension at the very least, setting aside any Vita stuff.  Plus, their Press Conference is a whole half hour shorter so there's less room for stuff we don't care about.  It can only go up from here.

The problem that too many people just fail to understand is that E3 was never meant for us.  That's why we can't get in.  That's why they talk about the boring sales figures.

E3 is meant for investors and retailers.  And to some extent, journalists.

E3 isn't, nor was it ever meant to be PAX or Comic Con.

It's mostly for the media though and the videogame media pays the most attention to it.  Maybe that's just a coincidence?  Maybe all along they were hoping that the more mainstream media would care but you don't read impressions from E3 anywhere but on gaming sites and prior to that, gaming magazines.  The core gamers were always who was paying attention.

MS couldn't have made it for "us" or anything though because they simply didn't have anything to excite "us."

The 360 is about 7 years old so it is now a sequel box.  At this stage in the game there isn't anything to wow any group at a show like this.

My problem with that press conference wasn't that it "wasn't for us", as there was probably at least 45 minutes of game footage from games "we" care about.  It's that it was bad, and not in a hilarious way like last year.  It was just...boring.  It wasn't fun to watch.  It's why I cracked halfway through the conference that Microsoft's new tag line must be "the audience is now asleep."

As for RE6, I thought it looked "good", but not "great".  Leon's section of the campaign is supposed to be the "Survival Horror" part of the game, and it looked just as action-centric as RE5.  And RE5 really disappointed me.

Yeah, looks like I was wrong; apparently you can use iOS devices for Smart Glass. But you won’t be able to stream and play full games off such devices. It seems like more like tablet connectivity as an accessory, rather than an actual controller. Even if it were possible, how would one play Halo 4 with no actual buttons?

Well, Electronic Arts is up next at 4 PM EST.  I expect I'll dislike this conference as well, since it'll be EA Sports-centric and Dead Space 3 is the only game they've announced I'm interested in.  I could also imagine them revealing Dragon Age 3.  Still, unlike Microsoft EA usually knows how to keep a Press Conference moving, so it'll probably be more entertaining.

No point in a price cut until at least closer to the WiiU launch.  Also, if E3 buzz is that the WiiU sucks (don't think it'll happen), then there would be no reason to cut the price even at WiiU launch because it's not going to cut into their sales.  My guess is they will probably wait until early 2013 for a price cut, but only if the WiiU actually does take off.

Nintendo's E3 show is probably going to be 85 percent Wii U.  5 percent bragging and 10 percent 3DS.   I really hope that isn't true, though it probably is.  I just want to see Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario and a few new games for 3DS.  I can understand if they don't accounce new games, considering that half of the games the games for E3 2011 aren't even release yet.  Maybe later on a press event.

Alright, it's EA's turn now.  Let's see what they kick off their conference with.  Hopefully it'll be Dead Space 3.

John Ricatello, that "Sundance" line still doesn't work, and you keep using it year after year.

Hooray for Dead Space 3 kicking off their press conference, though.

EDIT: I find it amusing how Lost Planet was seemingly inspired by games like Dead Space, and now Dead Space looks like it's "inspired by" Lost Planet.

And **** Co-Op in my survival horror game.  Seriously.

Wow, Medal of Honor Warfighter lives up to its extremely generic name.  You could take this footage and drop it into just about any military FPS game in the last 6 years, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  I kind of liked the last Medal of Honor, but this just doesn't look that interesting.

It does seem as though Spring has become the new holiday season. Nice job, industry - you weren't supposed to all move at once.  ::)

Absolutely zero surprises in that show. Not to say there weren't a couple of fairly cool-looking games, but each and every thing they demoed was pretty much exactly as I expected it to be. It's a competitive sequel-driven business, I guess; they either have to keep doing what they were already doing to a fault (Medal of Honour: Warfighter) or make it more marketable by making it similar to more successful products (Dead Space 3). It just felt like a lack of creativity in general on the part of EA.

I am also sad about Dead Space 3. I think there was a way to evolve the game into something like Aliens as compared to Alien, but this co-op ice planet stuff does not look like my cup of tea. Based on EA's and Microsoft's press conferences, it's looking like we'll be waiting until the next gen (which hopefully WiiU actually is) for something interesting to drop. Which also might not happen if this full court press for every game having a co-op/online/military focus continues. C'mon, Splinter Cell, there ain't no lightbulbs in the desert.

Ubisoft has already said they're not going to do that.

Like with EA, there's a couple projects to be excited about in here (Assassin's Creed III, Rayman Legends), but whereas EA was merely kinda dull, this is being completely thwarted by Ubisoft's total lack of understanding on how to present a press briefing. I can't even laugh at it like I did last year - this is so cringe-inducing and so misguided, I want to visit Ubisoft's marketing department and slap everyone there with a wet fish. Did they not learn anything? What in the hell were they thinking? Ugh...

Considering it's a multiplayer game on a system where you can (right now) only use one tablet controller, I'd say you can probably play it normally with the Pro Controller.  I just imagine how the game's been tweaked to allow for those touch controls to be serviceable.

That game (Watch Dogs) looks really cool, but man they took too long demo-ing that game.  Looks kind of like an open world game in the vein of Deus Ex.

I never thought I'd say it, but this Ubisoft Press Conference is going to be a hard act for Sony to follow-up, horrible host dialogue non-withstanding.  I want to play every game they demo-ed except Just Dance 4 and Shoot Beat Mania.  That was just a great line-up of games, including a cool-looking new IP in Watch Dogs.  Sony's going to need an awesome lineup of games to compete with that.

I wonder wether Zombi U (I didn't like the old title, but the new one is not a lot better. Makes it sound... cheap?) will offer multiplayer (online) co-op or if it's just a single player game. But I guess it's gonna be the latter.

And I also wonder wether Watch Dogs is going to be a PC title and if it's available for consoles wether the Wii U will be included or not. Did they say ANYTHING in that direction? I didn't see what controller that guy was using.

I'm looking forward to playing AC3. Wanted to play that game for ages, but my Mac can't handle it due to being too old and I only have a Wii and no other consoles.

Edit.: Okay, according to this... no Watch Dogs for Wii U. http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=178562 (http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=178562) :(
Edit.: Although... this list also doesn't show Rayman. So there is hoping. I hope.

They didn't give any platform information on Watch Dogs. My guess is this won't be the last E3 that game shows up at, so we'll probably get more info later. And I think the Rayman touch controls are only for that one floaty character; if you play as Rayman I assume you'd use the buttons on the gamepad.

ZombiU looks really cool outside the name.  When your character dies he turns into a zombie and you play a new survivor.  You can then find your old zombified character and take the stuff you had back.

I didn't notice before but in the trailer the zombie that eats the next person is always the person fighting the zombies in the last picture.

This demo is reminding me way too much of Nintendo's abysmal Wii Music press conference.  So many things getting screen time when so many other things need it more, especially Vita games.  Things like this press conference are why Sony's stock is in the toilet.  They're showing no confidence whatsoever in the Vita.  I'm just beyond furious at Sony right now for their abysmal handling of Vita.

OK, how long IS this press conference? GameTrailers only slated it to be an hour long, but we're way over that with no signs of stopping.  My whole anger at Sony was centered around an assumption of only an hour-long press conference, but if they have more time they have time to fix this.

EDIT: Oh look, it's God of war, and wonder of wonders it's the same game as always.

They briefly showed Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation for Vita as well, but yeah this has been an abysmal press conference for Vita and it HAD to be the handheld's big party.   Sony is so screwed.

And I doubt that there's more coming, either, since they're on Last of Us now, and that is destined to be the show-ender.

So far most of the stuff sony announced for the Vita was already leaked or expected.  An exclusive spin-off of CoD and Assassin's Creed.  Fanbase wise these are two of the bigger ones so that's at least something but hopefully they have more "japanese" games coming in TGS.

The only title I expected to see but didn't was an GTA vita?  Was expecting it but didn't hear about it..
-----------
PS3 exclusive Beyond looks interesting--the demo Sony showed was bit weak there's an official one on the net that's more promising.

If I were only a PS3-owner, I'd think that this Sony Press Conference was fairly decent.  While I'm VERY annoyed that the constantly overlooked Sly series was completely ignored by Sony at this press conference just mere months before Sly 4's release, Sony showed good PS3 software.  BEYOND could be amazing if David Cage had actually showed a demo where the player actually did something.  The Last of Us looks incredible, as does Assassin's Creed 3.  Far Cry 3 looks good as ever.  PlayStation Smash Bros. looks entertaining, though Sony needed to announce more than two new characters.

But I'm not a PS3-only owner and Sony had more than the PS3 to show at this press conference.  The Vita is floundering enough as it is right now, and Jack Tretton might as well have pulled out a gun and shot the handheld on-screen for all the support Sony showed for it at this press conference.  Black Ops Vita, Assassin's Creed Vita, PlayStation Smash Bros. Vita, and PS1 support.  That's it.  That's ****ING IT.  As a relatively new Vita owner, I am PISSED at Sony after this press conference for how they abandoned the handheld.  And I can't even imagine how angry Insanolord is at them, considering he just bought one a few days ago.

ARGH!

Well, Ubisoft won this round of press conferences extremely easily.  Of course, they were the only ones who bothered to show-up.  It's infuriating to see Microsoft and Sony just give E3 to Nintendo like this.

R.I.P. PlayStation Vita

- Sam Fisher has a new voice and looks younger? Is this a reboot?

- Didn't take MS long to do poor man's imitation of the Wii U. Smart Glass is a confusing name. It's like Gorilla Glass, right?

- Far Cry 3 looks good

- Zombi U seems extremely generic. Did Michel Ancel get mad about Ubisoft ripping off this Rabbids?

I need to catch up on EA and Sony

Beyond, The Last of Us, and Watch Dogs for the best of Day 1?

I'm wanna get Watch Dogs for the PC or my PS3. I love me some cyberpunk.

Dozed off for a while there. I watched a replay of Sony's conference. Average presentation, though probably the most acceptable one of the day in my eyes. While they have some very promising first-party/exclusive titles, the Vita getting largely ignored was a big sticking point for me and generally, I wish the briefing moved forward was a snappier pace. Anyway, time for sleep -- it's a big day tomorrow... well, today, whatever.

Beyond, The Last of Us, and Watch Dogs for the best of Day 1?

I have trouble marking down Beyond for anything beyond an honorable mention in that regard, considering Quantic Dream didn't show a single playable moment.  For me, it's The Last of Us followed very closely by Watch Dogs.

Last of Us looked good. I hope the escort AI is as good as it looks.

I got around to watching some of Sony's E3 trailers. The Last of Us is the game I'm most excited about. It looks like Uncharted minus the parkour. It doesn't look like you spend a lot of babysitting Ellie. I hope that remains the case because saving Ellie would get really old as a plot point. What I found interesting is that the game seems to reward patience. If you wait until Ellie attacks, your fight is significantly easier. I hope Naughty Dog explores that gameplay mechanic. Instead of running around guns-a-blazing, you plan an attack around a smart AI partner. Take that, Sheva!

Beyond looks interesting. Unfortunately, I have this completely unfair dislike of Ellen Page. I've had a hard time watching anything she's been in since Hard Candy. I did like Whip It though.

God of War Ascension is standard God of War. Nothing new there. The time rewind mechanic is interesting which makes me think Lakhesis might make an appearance though there was no hint in God of War II that she ever previously met Kratos, unlike his encounter with Atlas though God of War II and Chains of Olympus were developed concurrently so there was room to plan that connection. While I plan on playing Ascension eventually, this probably won't be a day 1 purchase, especially if Wii U really impresses in less than 12 hours. I really don't think there's anything Sony Santa Monica can do to make me really care about another prequel. We know how the story ends! It kind of ruins the mystique. What more do they have to say? What more do we need to know about Kratos? One thing I noticed in the demo was that Kratos pushes a guy out of harm's way. Is Ascension yet another story about how Kratos becomes even more of a dick? This is the same guy who smiled right before he incinerated a prisoner in the original.

What's a Playstation Vita? How did Sony manage to almost completely ignore a struggling platform? Battle Royale being released on Vita is nice and all... except there's no reason for me to buy it on Vita over PS3. If Nintendo simultaneously released the same game on a handheld and console, I'd pick the latter every single time. Masahiro Sakurai is planning a 3DS Smash Bros. alongside a Wii U Smash Bros. I have a reason to pick up the 3DS title because it's a different game. How does Sony not get this?

Dead Space 3 looks about as Survival Horror as Resident Evil 5. Why must sequels suck this E3?

Well, Sony's presentation was better than Microsoft's, but really didn't reveal very much of interest.

I agree that Vita support in the conference was very disappointing and wonder if The Last Guardian really is dead after not getting mentioned here.

Wonderbook looks interesting, but who knows how good it will end up being.  This is the type of idea that could be really cool or could be terrible depending on how good the final implementation is.  At least it's something new though - even if it won't appeal to most gamers.

Can't see the Wonderbook taking off in any significant way. I'm not sure Rowling is going to be enough to make this device viable outside of a small luxury kids' set.

The Last of Us just kind of made me feel bad. I liked the teaser, but I don't think I want to play the murder simulator they demoed. (This is probably some kind of accomplishment, though, depending on how scripted the presentation was.) I wish the characters had at least tried to parley with the dudes in the hotel. As of now it looks like The Road: The Game.

I'm glad Wonderbook exists, but it did not belong at that press conference and CERTAINLY not for that long.  It will sell a grand total of 100 copies at best, but I'm glad it's there for those 100 kids.

BTW, as Sony promised today's Playstation Plus update is amazing: link (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/06/05/playstation-plus-e3-2012/)

Almost makes up for their abandonment of the Vita. Almost.

I wanted to make a cynical comment about PS+... but really have nothing. That is an amazing update and a ton of content to be giving away to subscribers. Even if some of the games are older and probably weren't going to sell copies through traditional channels, they are still big games.

Does it make up for their lack of Vita announcements? Not if you are a Vita owner without a PS3... but I'm not sure how big that group is anyway. Vita really seems like it gets a HUGE value boost by owning Sony's console.

If you play a lot of games.  Playstation Plus really isn't that bad of a deal.  For me though I just can't get the time.  Shoot I haven't even been able to get back to Bionic Commando.

I agree.  I was scared she was going to be Ashley for a bit when he had to wait for a few seconds for her to climb up a ledge.  She redeemed herself in the fight against the baddies but I'm still concerned that she may drag the game out in the platforming areas.

I agree that the PS+ games are actually quite amazing.  Maybe I'll finally get around to playing inFamous 1 now which I got last year from the free games Sony gave us for the PSN hacking.  I love the fact that I own only 1 of those 12 games, so I guess I'm getting 11 free games.  Of course, that means I will have to renew my subscription (though I was planning on it anyways).

If you think that's bad, I still haven't started Bionic Commando.  It's been sitting on my shelf since I picked it up for like $7 used.  There's just been so much to play that I've never felt in the mood for it.

As for Plus, I've been very satisfied with my PlayStation Plus experience, and I'll gladly renew my membership in a few months when it's set to expire.  I have my issues with Sony's online experience (most notably the download speeds on PSN), but the discounts and free games have been well worth my comparatively piddly $60 subscription fee.  I'm a little bummed that Warhammer 40K Space Marine is one of the freebies considering I just bought that game off PSN, but at least I actually own that one.

My only gripe about PS+ is my current HD is the low 20GB model :( .  Really should upgrade to 500GB+ drive because Sony's giving weekly Freebies all the time.

I'd be significantly more intrigued if it was Fable Starring Journey and you play as Steve Perry.

It is. The only tool you need is a screwdriver and about 5 minutes of your time. There are plenty of video tutorials you can find on youtube to show you how to perform the procedure.

Unless you want to transfer everything on your current HDD over to the new one though.  Creating a backup requires an external HDD and the backup process takes FOREVER.  My suggestion is you put any saves and pictures and music you have that you want to keep onto a usb thumbdrive. Then switch the HDDs, then put all that stuff back on afterwards and just redownload all the games again. It'll probably be faster.

Did you see the demo?  They climbed up a ledge and it took her three times as long to climb up that ledge.  That ledge took them to a different platform. Therefore, platforming.

Or if you have PS Plus you can upload all your saves online. Yes, it would suck to redownload all your stuff, but considering his harddrive is only 20gb (that's what he said) he can't really have too much on there anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I agree.  I did say it's probably easier to just redownload everything he had.  I totally forgot about PS+ online saves.  That makes even more sense.

The problem with any "free" game you get on PlayStation Plus, if my memory is correct, is that you lose access to those games if you ever end your subscription. That is crap, and not good.

Well, you are getting these games for free, and considering it was only a $60 investment at the start I'd say you're getting an exceptionally good rate for a rental.  Besides, I think I've saved over $60 already on just my game discounts, and I do own those games.

Even the games you pay for aren't really yours permanently. There will come a time years from now when PSN gets shut down and whatever you bought on there will be inaccessible to you. It may not happen anytime soon, but it will happen eventually.

Only if you don't have those games on your hard drive. If you have them downloaded, you will still be able to play them on your PS3 (unless it's multiplayer only like Warhawk).
