Post by: Patchkid15 on March 03, 2012, 06:37:01 PM

If you missed out on this game before, you will have a chance to get it soon.

Capcom is selling new copies of their GameCube game Gotcha Force in Japan, according to their online store.

Gotcha Force was released in 2003 and received mixed reviews. You can read our review here. Now, almost nine years after the game's release, Capcom will be selling more copies of it on their online store.

For 4,998 yen ($61) you can purchase just the game, but for 6,500 yen ($79) you can purchase the game as well as a special art book. Both versions will begin shipping on March 26.

Wow, that's really... weird. I wouldn't have thought the game would have had that big of a following.

LOL, maybe they found a bunch of un-shipped copies in one of their factories.

LOL, maybe they found a bunch of un-shipped copies in one of their factories.

You joke, but that actually would be the most reasonable explanation for this move. Printing a game for a long-discontinued platform makes absolutely no sense for even a huge hit, let alone one sold mediocre at best... And let's not forget newer Wiis don't even support GC games anymore.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head there TJ.

Supposedly there's a big fanbase for the game inside Capcom itself. Also the game goes for even more money on eBay than Capcom is asking for here...

Assuming what TJ said isn't true, it would make more sense for them to just New Play Control the game for Wii than release it as is for the GC all these years later.

Wii is content starved and has a MUCH larger audience than the GC ever did.

NPC requires a LOT of effort though, at very least a full QA run through Nintendo plus most likely a bunch of adjustments to deal with stuff like hitting the home button. This run is 1000 copies and most likely just done to appease the developers and some super super hardcore fans. Capcom saw the sales numbers, they're not doing this for the money.

Methinks this is a marketing move.  I be very surprised if Gotcha Force isn't announced for Wii U or 3DS

The only way I could see Capcom's leadership approve another Gotcha Force is to ride on the Skylanders toy train and even then I think they'd rather use a popular IP like those Megaman EXE games.

I freakin' love Gotcha Force. It's gonna be great that more people are going to be able to play this. I hunted for a copy of this for a while, and actually found one at my local Play 'N' Trade after an episode of RFN where they discussed this game. I've never seen one in a store since, and I don't really know how rare it was otherwise.

NPC requires a LOT of effort though,

Doesn't reprinting an old Gamecube game require a lot of effort? Wii games are still being made, so the existing factory production and all that can be used, but to reprint an old GC game you would think would require a lot of work to get things up and running for something that has been dead for so many years.

I believe TJ is right and this was just some extra inventory they had available and never sold, but that's not the way the article was worded.

It's just mini DVDs, I don't think GC discs are different enough from DVDs to require a retooling, just slap in a different master and off you go.

But yeah, surplus stock could be it too.
