Title: Tim Schafer Ponders Wii U
Post by: NWR_pap64 on February 12, 2012, 11:14:09 PM

A response on Twitter may or may not hint at future Wii U support.

Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine, touched on the possibilities of Wii U development in a Twitter exchange.

Recently, Double Fine started a campaign to gather $400,000 over KickStarter to fund a new project, a classic point and click adventure. The fundraiser was an incredible success, reaching the goal in eight hours. A fan asked Schafer the following question over Twitter regarding the possibility of the project arriving on the Wii U:

"So, is a Wii U version likely? The touch screen seems like a perfect fit for adventure games."

Schafer answered with the following statement:

"Possible! that's a whole new engine for us though."

Tim Schafer has seen the development of some noteworthy games, which include Grim Fandango, Psychonauts and the recent Brutal Legend. In one day of fundraising, Double Fine gathered more than a million dollars and over 1.6 million at the time of this writing.

I would like to see a sequel to Brutal Legend.

I think a Mario Kart Vs. Star Fox game would be wonderful. ;P

That would be interesting, indeed.

I'm glad that the KickStarter was such a runaway success. It probably means that the Wii U is now a very real possibility to see a version of the game, whereas they may not have had the money with their original target.

Costume Quest is a good game, and I think it would be a good game on the Wii U.

Costume Quest was ridiculously easy. The only real challenge was from some of the boss fights, but even then it was pretty mild.

Indeed.  I've been pretty disappointed by DoubleFine's work, including Psychonauts (which is a great concept, but not necessarily a great game IMO).  Maybe as Tim Schafer "ponders Wii U", he can actually ponder making a great game for once, rather than a great concept with subpar execution.

broodwars, I have to disagree on Psychonauts. While it wasn't a perfect game, I think it was one of the best games last gen (though the Meat Circus level frustrated the hell out of me).

I like the concepts behind Double Fine's games. The problem is the execution. Maybe the problem is they don't have a lot of money and they are always forced to meet deadlines and scrap certain things that they wanted to do but couldn't because they didn't have the time or resources. So the end product comes across as half baked. I love the imagination and ideas they have, though.
