Title: Connectivity EP: Resident Evil Revelations
Post by: Halbred on February 06, 2012, 08:17:36 PM

A bonus segment of Connectivity all about Resident Evil Revelations!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/connectivity/29187

What are ya buyin'? What are ya sellin'? Well, some of you might be buying Resident Evil: Revelations, while we'll try to sell you on it being good. Neal Ronaghan, a hapless chap without the game, grills Zach Miller, the lucky sumbitch reviewing it, about the merits of Capcom's portable survival horror game. Wondering how the single-player campaign is? Want to know if Raid Mode is better than Mercenaries? Will Zach make an inappropriate comment about Jill Valentine's ass? Find out all those answers and more on this very special episode of NWR Connectivity.

If you like this launch day special episode, let us know in the Talkback or by e-mailing us here. We can totally do more like this in the future if you all think it's a cool idea.

If there isn't 2 inappropriate comments about Jill's ass, I'm demanding a $0 refund.

My money is on "will make ass comment". I've been playing the game and I can attest to the exquisiteness of said ass.

More content is always welcome. I even listen to the discussions I can barely understand about shows I do not watch.

I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to get this game. I have never really played the series before, with the exception of 4. I had a difficult time with 4, finally giving up when I could not get through the siege when you trapped in the house. I wonder if this game would be worth it for me or not.

At very least Xenoblade needs an EP for the US release. The game needs all the attention it can get.

Is the Hard Mode in the regular game as cheap as the one in the demo?

Start you off with the hardest creature in the demo.  Give you just enough bullets to get through the first explodie guy if you really conserve and then the next room, with you out of bullets probably, has another expodie guy...

The demo wasn't that bad or cheap on hard mode.  Use your extra grenade on the first creature, avoid monsters (conserving ammo) instead of fighting when possible, and be sure to save your big guns for emergency situations and you should be "fine".  Assuming that "fine" means "barely able to survive".

That said, I'm not going to play hard mode in the main game for the first time through. Great to have increased difficulty if you know what's coming and want some extra challenge... but not for the first time through, at least not for me.

The second exploding guy instantly made it cheap.

Maybe I need to play through again to see where this problematic second guy is. It's not coming to mind, and I really did find Hard mode pretty reasonable in the demo (dying once in the first room when the much harder enemy surprised me, and once in the last room when something hit me from behind).

My standards for "cheap" in a survival horror are probably different from most.  I'm quite forgiving as long as it's possible to get through - even allowing that advance knowledge of what is coming might be necessary.

I've done ~5 serious attempts through hard mode and I always get stuck in that room where the Sluggie comes crawling under the  Bookshelf.

I can get him fine.  Get the Explodie  and get him.  Then I don't have the ammunition for the Next Explodie after you open the door.

Hell mode:
- grab the grenade in the bathroom and use that to take out the first monster (finishing touches with the knife)
- use the screwdriver to open the door and head out
- oops, guy hiding around the corner hits me once. i back up, then run past into the room with the shotgun
- consider trying to run past again, but as he lumbers into the room I decide that killing with my pistol might be smarter
- in the next room, rush through without killing anything (the first explodie guy hiding around the corner was a slight surprise: open the door quick!)
- instead of fighting my way through this room, I just turn left and walk safely to the door without firing a shot (kind of knew there would be an explodie guy here from your comments)
- herb up ahead... nice! who wants to bet that some enemies will appear when i try to grab it?

And that's where my play through on Hell mode ended just now, as I stopped to take a few notes about what had happened so far. Not a big fan of how this game demo resets if you stop playing for a couple of minutes.

It sounds like your problem stems from playing like it's an action game instead of trying to avoid combat and preserve ammo for emergency situations. Remember: survival doesn't mean you have to lay waste to everything in your path. In some cases it's better to just ignore and avoid enemies.

Ceric is NOT prepared for Raid Mode's Abyss mode. ;-)
