Title: Spartacus has succumb to the Sands of the Arena. RIP.

R.I.P. Andy Whitfield
Spartacus will never be the same without you.
18 months from early diagnosis to remission to this. And it was from the Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Now everyone go watch the first season of Spartacus so that you know who he was and why he'll be missed.

I was so confused when I read this title, since Charlton Heston died a few years back.
I don't think I know this guy from anything but the Spartacus series. He fit the role well enough, and I would recommend the show to anyone who wants that kind of (poorly) stylized 300-esque vibe.
Watching an incredibly well aged Lucy Lawless do nasty things is worth it if nothing else. ;)

I knew exactly who he meant. That's a shame. The guy was only a few years older than me, too.
Blood and Sand was the best acted porno I've ever seen. I was looking forward to more of the Spartacus story, so I wonder if they'll recast the part now or just drop the whole thing.

Starz has since replaced Whitfield with actor Liam McIntyre, who will play Spartacus for season two, to be called Spartacus: Vengeance. (http://www.collegenews.com/index.php?/article/liam_mcintyre_5488751224/)

Personally, I would have rather seen the loss of the actor/character written around. Spartacus' story was more-or-less told in the first season. The ensuing slave rebellion could just as easily be led by another gladiator.
