Title: The New Song Thread - Post your favorites as you find them!
Post by: Stogi on August 30, 2011, 05:24:56 AM
So the Album thread failed and I think I know why. People rarely enjoy albums now-a-days. Back in the day, when your friend bought a new album, he/she lent it to you or burned you a copy. That pretty much forced you to listen to the entire album. Blame iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, GrooveShark or whatever but I'm pretty sure now that we have access to so much music that people mostly listen to random new songs rather than random new albums.
So this thread is to try again and keep some sort of music based page alive and active. We have a food page up. Music is just as popular if not more so. So I can't see why it's not possible.
I'll start us off with a few... I don't expect you to put as many as I have. One will do just fine. Just post it damn it! Don't keep it for yourself! There's nothing better than finding a new song you love!
Anyway...
I pretty much keep a playlist in my head with songs for just about every occasion imaginable that I replace with newer songs as I find something fresher. I broke (most) of mine down by genre, but I could have easily broke them down by mood. Feel free to label your favorites anyway you'd like.
This is my favorite new 'Shaking the Hips' song. I love the beat. I love that girls love the beat and can't help themselves but move. But mostly, I love the way you have to dance to it. It's an irregular 3/4, so have to act more naturally and sway, rock and step. It's the perfect 'sexy' song.
::: BlackMill - Spirt of Life ::: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeaGUfZM5hs)
This is my favorite new 'Recluse' song. I literally just found it and it was the motivation for this thread. I can see myself playing this on repeat when I need to get some work done. It's so relaxing and intricate. I can listen to it intently or put it on the background. It's simply beautiful.
This is my favorite new 'Dubstep' song. I love this song for three reasons: the vocals are mesmerizing; the wobbles don't hurt my ears and actually compliment the rhythm; but mostly I love the fact that it is extremely versatile for a dubstep song. I can sit back with a glass and smoke hookah, or get up and dance to it, or I could hop in the ride and bump it, or get freaky to it. It's definitely one to keep in the arsenal.
These are my favorite new 'Rap' songs. Representing the Midwest, Tech N9ne does it again with a whole new album of sick tracks. His producer hit it out the park. I think Mental Giant is a better song overall with one of the best and catchiest choruses this year, but the beat on **** Food is amazingly epic. Lil' Wayne has one of his better verses in a while on that song too, though T-pain is awful. I honestly wish Tech N9ne stayed away from these two, but whatever. Regardless, I need to find the instrumental asap. Anyone who's fan of GOOD rap, I would suggest getting his whole album "6's and 7's".
This is my favorite new 'Rock' song. They toured near me about a month ago and I was invited to go by a couple of friends. I had never heard of them before and when my friends explained the type of music they played, I couldn't help but be skeptical, but in the end I had a blast! The main singer has a great voice, the riffs are solid and catchy, the beats stay interesting, and finally, it has this incredible epicness to it that you can't help but chant with. This song has great appeal and makes a perfect gateway into the rest of their music.
::: Adele Rolling In The Deep ::: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw&ob=av2e)
This has been my favorite new "Blues" song. The bars and clubs are trying to over play it by remixing it, but the original is far better than all of that bullshit. Adele is amazingly gifted and her '21' album proves that point over and over again, but this song is what I hope is a return to a better, more soulful sound that Katie Perry and Lady Gaga would beg to have. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I can't wait to hear once my vinyl arrives. Anyway, not satisfied with my new favorite - check out anything by The Black Keys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XbcsUremO4). I've been loving their sound since 2008. Or check out Aloe Black (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR6oYX1D-0w). His sound is a return to 1960. I love it.
::: LoveAvalanche feat. Mc Benjammin - Less Corruption ::: (http://soundcloud.com/urbanworldrec/01-loveavalanche-feat-mc-benjammin-less-corruption-radio-mix)
This is my favorite new "Reggae" song. Honestly just heard it last week and I love it; mainly the chorus "Corruption is what the Bad Man briiinnnnggg." What is it with reggae songs and awesome one liners? Just like Damian Marley's "Up in the streets, they call it MURRRDERRR." It's the ****. Anyway, this song has a nice chord progression, deep bass, and a great reggae singer. What more do you need?
::: Don Omar - Danza Kuduro ::: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zp1TbLFPp8)
This my favorite new "Latin" song. I've been bumping this all summer. Great groove, awesome beat, and fuckin' catchy chorus. I sang it even before I even knew what it meant.
This is my favorite new "World" song. Searching for Brazillian music, I stumbled upon an awesome compilation called "Tropicália - A Brazilian Revolution In Sound". This is one of my favorite songs off of it, though its filled with gems. I like this song because not only was it made before 1969, when this compilation was released, it still sounds fresher than most pop/punk bands today. Amazing.
::: Zedd - The Legend of Zelda ::: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLzaZ_HXmjw)
This is my favorite new "Video Game Remix" song. This song is so awesome. Possibly the best remix ever made. I can't help but smile every time I hear it. I can geek and rage out at the same time!
And last but not least...
::: Plan B - The Recluse (Nero Remix) Instrumental ::: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8n_iFPuiKE)
This is my favorite new 'Instrumental' song. While some will consider this dubstep (and it is), I think it's a marvel of composition despite the heavy bass line and steady snare. It's so robust and colossal, that it literally energizes me. I think it's so epic, in fact, that I'm wondering why no one has used it for a movie trailer. It's absolutely perfect. I'd see the movie based on the music alone (as I did with inception which also had amazing trailer music). Turn up the volume and listen to this song now!
Ok that was quite a hefty start....now it's your turn. What have you been listening to any chance you get?

I know this is for songs but I recently found an album that I just love. XD
It's Jeff Buckley's Grace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_(Jeff_Buckley_album)#Track_listing). I just linked to the track listing of the album. It's his only complete studio album because of his death in '97.
Lover, You Should've Come Over (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXe1jpHPnUs)
So the Album thread failed and I think I know why. People rarely enjoy albums now-a-days. Back in the day, when your friend bought a new album, he/she lent it to you or burned you a copy. Can I just blame it on the majority of the music today sucking really, really hard? It's difficult to listen through an entire album when the band only has one song worth hearing. One song that was so precisely tailor made to be the hit single.
That said, I can't even remember the last time I came across a new band that I liked. Most of the musicians I listen to haven't put anything out since the 70s though. :\

Recently I have found myself liking some current music again. This was after over ten years of disliking pretty much anything I heard. I'm hoping that the 2000's was just a shitty decade for rock music and the 2010's will be good. We are definitely in the era of the song though. People are going to cherrypick their favourite tunes.
Here are a couple of songs I've been digging lately.
Stereo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bw-Zhq_tPI&ob=av2e) by Shortwave
Punching in a Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC29pd_5sQU&ob=av2e) by The Naked and Famous
Both songs have lots of keyboards and cool guitar effects and have catchy hooks. It's pop music that doesn't appeal to the dipshits that like mainstream pop music.

The majority of music has always sucked hard. It's easy to look back at the '60s and '70s and say they were great because people just gloss over all the **** that came out back then. There's plenty of good stuff coming out now, including plenty of really good full albums, but you need to look beyond the top-40 to get it.

Sorry, but far more trash is made now than every before. Technology is a double-edged sword in that regard. Production and distribution is easier than ever, so much so that anyone with a computer and a bit of skill can record a very professional sounding album and make it instantly available to the entire world. The flip side is that you now have ever shitty little band in the world doing just that. Of course there were junk tracks decades ago as well, but the genres that were popular were generally better... which lead to far more diamonds coming through. That doesn't seem to be the case nowadays, where the only hope you even have of finding something decent is buried within the indie scenes. Unless you care enough to dig for your music, you aren't going to find it in today's world.

Sorry, what you just wrote was crap. As soon as I'm not on my phone expect a huge post detailing why.

It's the same with every medium. The easier it is to make something, the more crap will exists. Look at TV for example, there are far more crappy shows than in the past because there are far more shows and channels available. There may be more trashy music now, but that is to be expected when all it takes is a computer and mic and you can release your songs online.

Far more trash is made now because far more music is made now. Percentage-wise I'd bet it's fairly similar. The fact that it's easier to get stuff out there can lead to ****, but it can also lead to something really good finding an audience where it wouldn't have been able to before.

Percentage wise as in every piece of music in the world created at that instance yeah but, as you said its vastly easier to get your music out there. Less Filtering and Less rigorous quality control = more junk

Yes, the barrier of entry for creating an album is much lower today then it was even ten years ago. Though the funny thing is that it's easier for indie artists. Morari is kind of admitting that the big music labels benefitted the music industry by acting as a filter for crap. Nickleback and Justin Bieber aren't popular because of the lower barrier for entry. Those are mainstream major label acts that only got where they were because they impressed some suit and got signed. The only problem with the lower barrier of entry is that the indie scene is more crowded, so it can be harder to find something within that area.
I do think rock music is inferior now. I think it is important to specify "rock" music as that is what I'm referring to. I think rock was at its peak between 1965 and 1975. But that makes sense. Rock debuted in the mid 50's. So I'm suggesting that it peaked about ten years after it's debut and had about a ten year peak. That's pretty damn normal. You give some time to get the kinks out but things are still early enough that numerous innovations are introduced. This also falls around the time of the Beatles. The Beatles were a once in a lifetime act that was so far ahead of everyone else that they sparked a golden age. We're getting further and further from the Beatles. We used to have their comtemporaries, then the acts inspired by them, and now we get bands that were inspired by bands that were inspired by bands that were inspired by bands that were inspired by the Beatles. People form bands these days with no knowledge or appreciation for rock music history. They're copying off of a photocopy without checking out the source. Bad habbits and practices and, hell, just plain old poor taste can get passed around that way.
But you see this with everything. If everything is going great you're either too ignorant to know that it isn't or it's new enough that innovation is still common or some major game changing artist came along recently and kickstarted a golden age. If it's just decades old with no recent game changer, it's stale and likely inferior with all sorts of crap trends and bad habbits sticking to it.

Rock is alive and well, but it's competing for your attention. So if you are not willing to find it, then you aren't able to complain. Good music is always hard to find, and that is exactly why I created this thread. We all come from different backgrounds, some I'm expecting a diverse range of GOOD music; something that will benefit us all.
So if some of you are so jaded about new music today, stop listening to the radio or the same music over and over again and go out to your local bar that has bands. Re-acclimate yourself with new music, whether you like it or not and get that curiosity back. If you hear a good song, ask someone what it is.

Tried that. Definitely did not like the results. It's all bubblegum punk/emo or screaming, growling tardcore stuff. :(

Any time I've gone out to see local bands they're either non-melodic trash kind of stuff or are doing straight grunge like it's 1993. I like grunge but I want something more than a generic Pearl Jam knock off without Pearl Jam's songwriting talent. Or it's my band playing in which case the audience that just went nuts for the non-melodic trash band sits on their hands in silence, which I should probably take as a compliment.
But I have found good current acts so I'm doing okay right now.

That's not the point though. You are rarely going to find a band on a whim that you absolutely love. Instead, listen to it and try to find something you do like about it; maybe the drum beat or maybe the bass line. It may be hard at first, but it'll greatly broaden your appreciation of their efforts.

Eh, I was going to write a huge thing, but I can't be fucked. I'll just say this: There is always dissent towards musical trends - that does not make your opinion any less valid, but neither does thinking that you are correct in thinking music has changed for the worse. People spat at Stravinski, thinking he was destroying music with "The Rite Of Spring" yet here we are.
I personally enjoy music more now than I ever have before.

So I should just sit around and listen to Britney Spears because the basic one-two-three beat isn't offensive to my ears if I psychically filter out everything else? ???
If I have to work hard to appreciate a small part of what some band is doing, then they're doing it wrong.

I'm just saying. Have an open mind. The worst thing you can do is condense yourself to one genre of music. That's like eating the same food over and over again.
Title: Re: The New Song Thread - Post your favorites as you find them!
Post by: Morari on August 30, 2011, 09:41:07 PM
Sure, I agree with that to a point. On the other hand, I generally know what genres I like or don't like through decades of experience. If I'm going to go through the trouble of seeking out new music, it makes it a lot easier if I can immediately rule entire genres out from experience.
It's akin to knowing what types of cuisine you favor. You may only be eating Mexican food, but there sure are a lot of dishes to be had within those parameters. ;)

There is an unbelievable amount of music I love and I know even more I haven't found yet. I love the internet and my friends for helping me find amazing music.
Here is a small sampling of some of the stuff I like. May add comments to the songs. I got a bit carried away.
James Vincent McMorrow - This Old Dark Machine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4Bs4k5i5BQ)
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrQRS40OKNE&ob=av2e)
I LOVE Fleet Foxes. Just amazing harmonies and song writing! I might get to see them live in October. They sound AMAZING on vinyl.
The Civil Wars - Poison & Wine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfzRlcnq_c0)
Coldplay - The Scientist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWLpTKBFcU&ob=av2n)
I don't care what anyone says. I dig my Coldplay. This is actually one of my favorite songs. I listen to it almost every day.
Matt & Kim - AM/FM Sound (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qm2OEil8Pw)
Mayer Hawthrone - Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Plean' Nothin' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAxBdYM8opg)
Gotta love the soul music! I wish there was more "new" soul. Mayer Hawthorne is awesome and I love his album!
She & Him - In The Sun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ3cTwI9bIw)
Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLJf9qJHR3E)
Local Natives - World News (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7tZMn5dJh8)
The Black Keys - Tighten Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpaPBCBjSVc)
I love to jam to The Black Keys. SO GOOD!
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijk4j-r7qPA&ob=av2e)
The Fratellis - Henrietta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1Bs9_k3kVc)
The White Stripes - Icky Thump (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OjTspCqvk8)

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjecYugTbIQ)
Ben Folds - One Angery Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBvU68ZkAvk&feature=related)
Arcade Fire - Wake Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OmMPaLmxKg)
Arcade Fire is probably my favorite band. I just love their music! I want to go to an Arcade Fire concert just to I can experience singing "Wake Up" with all those people!
The Avett Brothers - Paranoia In B Flat Major (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X1nmKyiU6s&ob=av2n)

Hey, I actually know probably a good quarter of the songs Kraken listed. I'll second the praise for Arcade Fire.
Peter Bjorn and John - It Don't Move Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5uOfj7ukjU&ob=av2e) It's got kind of a New Order thing going and the video has some killer dance moves.
King Crimson - Epitaph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhuG2hCJtsk) This is not a new song in any way since it's from 1969. But I only recently discovered it and have never met anyone who knows it. I sure don't hear it on classic rock stations. It makes liberal use of one my favourite instruments, the mellotron.

I'm not too into the new stuff that gets played on the radio, so I actually go back to pick up stuff I may have missed the first time through.
Most recently I've been listening to the Magnetic Fields. The album Holiday is great from start to finish, but this is probably the catchiest song on the album Strange Powers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ThZ7mnOLEQ&feature=related) I love the witty lyrics in a lot of their songs and you want to listen to it again and again. Desert Island (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-8_VZcDc7I) and Deep Sea Diving suit are also fun songs, and I can't help laughing when I hear this song Yeah, Oh Yeah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYIAvZ2Gggg&feature=BFa&list=AVGxdCwVVULXeUPcvdQ6TYvLUyqeSErKm9&lf=list_related)
I also like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's first self titled album where this is proably the stand out track. The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWgfoj6VNUw) The singing may sound gratting at first, but I eventually got used to it and enjoyed it. They are compaired to the Talking Heads, I don't hear it but, I would say its a bit similar. I ended up liking other songs on this album more but on my first listens through this was the the track I would come back to. I also hear they are putting out a new album soon and hopefully its more like this one and not the second album.
Speaking of The Talking Heads, I like this song of theirs Nothing but Flowers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=068AFYvd58E) which sarcasticly pines for the good old days of fast food restarunts while living in a lush paridise.

muppet show theme song with ok go (http://www.vevo.com/watch/the-muppets-ok-go/muppet-show-theme-song/USWV21121848)
Otis - kanye West and Jay-Z (http://www.vevo.com/watch/jay-z-kanye-west/otis/USUV71101246)
I mostly like the background beat/loop. Except for that Aziz Ansari cameo, so terrible lol.
Gorillaz - To Binge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMnrFiG8FRo)

I've been slowly getting into Megadeth over the past few months. I never much cared for them back in the day. I suppose I always expected them to be more akin to (then awesome) Metallica, and ultimately set myself up for disappointment. That said, I find myself appreciating a good handful of their stuff nowadays... now that I'm not so hung-up on the sometimes silly lyrics or Dave Mustaine's non-typical vocals.

I hope this thread survives. I would much rather talk about music over food, TV and movies any day. I try and find new music all the time, and I'm consantly listening to music, but I can understand that people aren't always like that. They find something they like and stick to it and that's probably why threads like this suffer. Anyway I'll post some stuff I've been listening to lately. I go through phases, at the moment it's all sort of chilled out electronic stuff, coming into summer that's what you need.
Thundercat's album was released recently. The album's a mix of pop, electronic, soul and jazz, with FlyLo producing. It's pretty fucking ace. I'd say this is going to be on high replay for a while.
Thundercat - For Love I Come (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8nuH6SKtNU) Thundercat - Jamboree (http://youtu.be/ERLU5V-nOwI)
Four Tet is always on pretty high rotation with me. It's easy to chill out and get lost in.
Four Tet - Angel Echoes (http://youtu.be/Tpe4id7cLnU) Four Tet - Everything Is Alright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7kCIX2KiS4)
LCD Soundsystem, one of my all-time favourites, finished up this year. I was crushed, but I'll always have the records! This song is my favourite by them and one of the best songs released in the last 15 years.
LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDRLW748j68)
Holy **** are playing at a festival I'm going to later in the year. I only had their latest album so I thought I would check out some of their older stuff in anticipation. I probably like it more than their more recent work which is a nice surprise.
I'm not going to blow my entire wad at once, so I'll probably leave it at that for now so I have a reason to come back to this thread again.

The new Mastodon (and Trivium) song is a little too mainstream. It's always nice to hear bands like Mastodon (and Trivium) on the radio...but then again it's always bad to hear them on the radio too

So I've listened to the Flaming Lips new 24-hour song (http://flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com/) for about 4 or so hours today.
I've now put the stream as my homepage so I'll listen to this on and off when I have nothing else to listen to. It's streaming for a year so eventually I'll hear it all.

The "cook with me now" guy is a battle rapper Mac Lethal all white people look alike ;)
But Yung Humma was Pootie Tang? I never really watched the movie, but I thought these guys were a bunch of college friends who happened to stumble upon internet stardom by accident with the first few songs which they did as a sort of joke/pet project. But if Yung Humma is Pootie Tang, then that means at least one of them has been chasing the stardom for a while now.

Here are some of my favorite songs:
Pendulum - Salt in the Wounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x4S9_P8yAU) Here's a live version of my current favorite song. Uptempo with heavy beats, which make this song ideal when waking up or trying to stay awake (not really recommended when driving, it has the tendency to make you speeding).
Prodigy - Voodoo People (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKXKWBcaV3A) I've got a soft spot for the Prodigy, and this version of Voodoo People is by far my favorite song (with 'no good' as a close second)
Deadmau5 - Ghost 'n' Stuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQxAJLBAIH4) One of my favorite tracks of Deadmau5. It has a catchy tune and some nice beats.
Some of the older songs that I'm still listening to:
Energy 52 - Café del Mar (3 in 1 remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb4If034Xus) One of the alltime dance classics that has lit up the dance floor on many occasions.
Three Drives on a Vinyl- Greece 2000 (original mix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avjKyd6rn0E) BBE - Seven days and one week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpkLcfbOra4) Three Drives - Sunset on Ibiza (DJ Enrico Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z-pM1y1vo8) These 3 songs are maybe not as well known as Café del Mar, but I think they hold up pretty well in this day and age.

Jmil Kly - The Boy King EP (http://jamilkelley.bandcamp.com/album/the-boy-king-ep)
I got forwarded this EP by a friend and I was definitely surprised. Great flow and lyricism, but I can't get over the production, this is some of the best I've heard all year. And all this from a free EP, I hope this dude has a future.

I liked his productions more than his raps to be honest. I only listened to 4 songs though.
**** all that **** I posted...Just listen to "Vaiden The Law"
Four Tet is always on pretty high rotation with me. It's easy to chill out and get lost in.
Four Tet - Angel Echoes (http://youtu.be/Tpe4id7cLnU) Four Tet - Everything Is Alright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7kCIX2KiS4)
Dude! Four Tet is awesome! From other post about music, I think we have a similar taste so I'm going to have to really check out those links you posted.
Here's my recent favorite songs to play at a party:
House of Balloons (by The Weeknd, remixed by Party Supplies) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VjbibfRcYw)
Home (by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, Remixed by Party Supplies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAyL7LdMU-Q)
Love Story (By Taylor Swift, remixed by Party Supplies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhJjdGDChRw)*
*first Taylor Swift song I've ever heard lol, also has a hilarious intro

So as soon as I heard about the Gorillaz song featuring James Murphy (from LCD Soundsystem) and Andre 3000 (from OUtKast, duh), I was amped. Then came the song came out, running at a little over 4 minutes and I must say I was disappointed. I mean it was good, but it was far beneath my expectations.
Then BAM! a couple of days later the 13-minute extended version drops and it's a monster.
Already picking this as the best track of 2012.

Haha yeah, as I said there is a 4-minute version. And unfortunately it's a standalone release as a part of series Converse has put together, 3 Artists, 1 Song. There's another one released previously release with Kid Cudi and Best Coast.
It would be amazing if these guys collaborated on something more than just this one track.

Yeah, Andre destroys this track. He's been popping up more and more lately so hopefully that means he'll be dropping something soon. But then again it tools ages for Big Boi's album to get released.

Peter Bjorn and John - It Don't Move Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5uOfj7ukjU&ob=av2e) It's got kind of a New Order thing going and the video has some killer dance moves.
Oh maaaan. You had me at New Order. Happy I clicked through!
I probably have a musical taste that is 100% incompatible with anyone else on these forums but... *shrug* It's late on a Friday night and I'm totally procrastinating from doing things I need to do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ek3eCbfqp0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ek3eCbfqp0) Patti Page - The Tennessee Waltz (1950) I found this 50's oldie one night and got pretty obsessed with it. If I ever find it on a karaoke list, I'm totally trying it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7eVDJgNamw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7eVDJgNamw) Tochi Raina - Gal Mitthi Mitthi Bol (2010) And now for some Bollywood! This is real energetic and has gotten me through more than one slow work day. It was at the end of the movie Aisha, which was sorta awesome because it's almost like they just played this music over one big cast wrap party. Apparently when I was watching the movie's making of, they mention that this song sort of doesn't fit into any one Indian ethnicity, it's some sort of fusion of language and style and none of the cast understood all the words, lol.

I actually have quite the soft spot for the Mirror's Edge song. "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzmUde_EK5Y
I also love this song way too much. I got all the remixes on my iPhone and listen to them regularly (also a great game!)
My musical tastes are extremely varied so some (most?) will be hit or miss with most people but maybe there will be something some of you like too:
Nero - Promises (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llDikI2hTtk) Is a DnB/Dubstep group who I am hooked on at the moment. I especially love the beat of this song as well as the vocals.
I have a couple videos here from the same artist because she deserves all the props and recognition she can get. Her name is Janelle Monáe and this video is Cold War (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqmORiHNtN4&feature=relmfu) next is Tightrope (Wondamix) [Feat. B.o.B and Lupe Fiasco] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GlpeFqMLZI) which is a remix of Tightrope [feat. Big Boi] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwnefUaKCbc&ob=av2e)
This next one is Little Dragon - Shuffle A Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXn02jofXGk). They are an electronic band with a fantastic singer.
Flyleaf is admittedly one of my favorite bands and this song especially helped me a lot during the time my mother had leukemia it's called Okay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwcl8cTkr-0). Another song I really like that has Flyleaf (well Lacey anyways) is Apocalyptica feat Lacey Sturm - Broken Pieces (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxL-H-B5jQA)
Alright now I am going to get lazy and just post the bands name and song: Minus The Bear - Knights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4F6bNm5oEs) (Indie rock/Math rock?) Rishloo - Blitz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6Q_ww4wrws) (Progressive/Experimental Rock) Japanese Cartoon - Heirplanes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FgPKyLQRUM) (Lupe Fiascos Punk/Rock band) Burden Of A Day - My Forfeit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2waI5VZ2_38&ob=av2e) (Post-Hardcore) Jamie's Elsewhere - One Foot In the Grave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2DbqbfCJqo) (Post-Hardcore) Dance Gavin Dance - Heat Seeking Ghost Of Sex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5uowyvOm7g) (Post-Hardcore) Atlas Losing Grip - - Horizon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvL79ibaR6I) (Punk - sounds similar to Rise Against) BT - Forget Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNUCsvwhYsQ) (Electronica DJ who always has really bad hair)

i don't really know much about music, i guess you could call me a "casual" fan but i just listen to stuff randomly on the radio or whatever (discover music project (http://www.crosstawk.com/newbusiness/category/discover-music-project) is awesome for people like me) and then go look it up.
anyways I've really liking this one right now
Steve Reich - Octet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbC5zhFX7Kw&feature=related) I don't even remember how i found out about him but i like it.
Artuo Marquez - Danzon no 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amSqQ5XNaGE#t=6m53s) also this one

Here's a small update on what I'm liking at the moment.
Pendulum - Blood Sugar (Live version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKRx6V7bqQI) I bought the CD/DVD from their concert at Brixton Academy some time ago. This band started in the Drum 'n Bass genre, but they have incorporated multiple other genres (rock, dance,...) into their repertoire.
Netsky - Give & Take (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YeNC-CXQiQ) Although Netsky is mostly known from his remixes, he also makes his own songs. This is his latest song.
For those who need their dubstep fix, can listen to the following 2 songs Avicii - Levels (Skrillex Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MITA4FhVjDc) Skrillex - Bangarang (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJVmu6yttiw)

people that like dubstep might find somthing to like here John Kameel Farah- Uprising (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apmxiJY23Rk)
the best way i can describe it is Dubstep meets jazz piano (i think that's the right term)

Counting Crows (Yup, that band from the 90s, and my favorite band. They still do stuff, and they're underrated as hell): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27lp1B_-dpU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27lp1B_-dpU) (gets great at 3:30)
Dropkick Murphys (Awesome as hell, and I don't care who knows it. Their live shows are absolutely insane): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbZMgEGrccs&ob=av3n (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbZMgEGrccs&ob=av3n)

The Band (Old school Americana): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjCw3-YTffo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjCw3-YTffo)
Van Morrison (classic!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44wDwMQVqCc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44wDwMQVqCc)
The Tallest Man on Earth (damn good acoustic stuff despite indie coating): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa3lyo_Eowc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wa3lyo_Eowc)
The Baseballs (modern rockabilly covering modern songs, one of my favorites): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM2177pHMT0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM2177pHMT0)
Should be a good enough mix.

Sadly, I'm into mindless beat-heavy pop music (but NOT club music).
Thus, my current favorite radio song is Breathe Carolina's "Blackout."
The video is also commendable.

I've been listening to a lot of BADBADNOTGOOD lately since they dropped their new album BBNG2 early last month. They're a young Canadian Jazz trio who experiment with a lot of Hip-Hop instrumentals and electronic music. They also have their own original tracks and do their take on a lot of other genres too. For instance their first album BBNG took me by surprise when this started playing:
This is one of my favourites from BBNG2 a cover of Kanye West's Flashing Lights:
If anyone is at all interested they have all their stuff free to download on their Bandcamp pages. BBNG (http://badbadnotgood.bandcamp.com/album/bbng-2) BBNG2 (http://badbadnotgood.bandcamp.com/album/bbng2)
