Title: WHY DIDN'T YOU FINE, REASONABLE PEOPLE BUY THIS GAME?????
Post by: Urkel on July 18, 2011, 09:40:21 PM
I'm sure you've heard by now, but Icon games (as if I need to tell you who they are) has reported that nobody has bought Soccer Bashi. Absolutely shocking.

What could have gone wrong? Well, they have it all figured out.

We found many of the review sites for WiiWare games to be very harsh – if you veer too far from the typical Nintendo styling the reception isn’t particularly good. Nintendo Life in particular provided a number of very unpleasant reviews.

Damn nintard game reviewers. But don't think that Nintendo Life (more like Nintendo DEATH) is only to blame. Oh no. Our very own NWR gave this game a FOUR POINT FIVE! I'd love to see the reviewer defend his review... if he can. But that's okay. I'm sure he's too busy washing his Mario themed bedsheets and pajamas to address this.

Perhaps the main point with WiiWare development is that you absolutely have to capture the expectations of the typical WiiWare audience – the visual style needs to be very in-keeping with the template set by the first party titles, so unless you get marketing backing directly from Nintendo, anything that veers away from this will fare badly.

This guy gets it. But why stop at Nintendo marketing the game? Nintendo should've subsidized the entire development like a REAL first party platform holder would do.

So there you have it, Ninfanboys. It's all your fault for not buying this unique software. And it's all reviewer's faults for not telling you to buy it. And it's all Nintendo's fault for not telling reviewer's to tell you to buy it.

No wonder Nintendo isn't releasing those three fruity RPGs. Not enough Mario for you guys.

Seriously, complaining that NintendoLife gave something a bad review is scraping the bottom of the barrel. They're kinder to download games on the Nintendo platforms than anyone else, and if they can't find anything worthwhile in your game than I don't think you have any right to be indignant.

Breakout clone that falsely advertises that it's a sports game, what could go wrong?

Add on top of that that it's pretending to be a sport relatively few people in North America actually care about.

As an American who is also a big soccer fan, I still don't care at all about something that not even NintendoLife can defend.

I just think this trend of Wiiware developers blaming the platform for poor sales is pretty funny. It's always, ALWAYS the developer of something that is either completely unremarkable, or outright shovelware. These games would be lucky to even get decent sales as a 99 cent app.

Just once I'd like to see a game developer admit that maybe their game wasn't that great.

And the original poll questions were funnier.

I think it's funnier that these developers found WiiWare to be an unprofitable game venue, then proceeded to create a few more WiiWare games. If the system didn't work out the first time, why use it again? If the system didn't work out a second time, why use it again?

But really, an Arkanoid clone? Those things are free in flash all over the internet. There's probably a hundred coded specifically to work with the Wii's internet browser. How can they be disappointed in the lack of sales with a project that looked like it took ten days to produce and offers nothing original in any form?

On a different note, what's the point of having a goalie that is literally the size of the goal? They probably spent most of their time programming the goalie's movement patterns, which seemed to be the most sophisticated thing in the game... and yet it was also the most pointless.

Oh well.

I played the demo. Yes, they DID have assistance from Nintendo in the form of a playable demo that was up on the Wii Shop Channel for awhile.

I didn't like the demo. So I didn't buy the game.

I had zero interest in the game, the description of it did not interest me and the reviews didn't help either.

Block Breaker Deluxe has been out on WiiWare forever. It's about as good as Breakout clones get... and it has a weird storyline.

A must for Breakout Clone.

Nintendo Life is probably my #1 website that I check for game reviews. How you can bash them for bashing this Breakout clone is ridiculous. It's not shovelware, but it's nothing special. And it's tied to soccer, which here in the US, might as well be women's golf.

To the developer I say "AlphaBounce set the bar. And this is not a limbo contest".

Just once I'd like to see a game developer admit that maybe their game wasn't that great.

But that would require looking past their own ego and recognizing that it's their own fault instead of blaming everything else.
