Title: Metal Gear Solid HD collection
Post by: Drizzt on June 02, 2011, 10:29:03 PM
Konami confirmed that they are remaking Metal Gear Solid 2,3 and Peace Walker in HD in one collection, for both Ps3 and Xbox 360, with redrawn art, and trophy support! http://ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1172179p1.html (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/117/1172179p1.html)

Sounds cool. Of course, it only mentions three games.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Why not redo the first MGS? I realize there are probably a lot of legal issues keeping them from using The Twin Snakes, at least. Also, when will those 360 users get MGS4?

Never. I don't think the Exclusivity was a limitted time deal.

I've never played more than 20 minutes of this franchise. Seems like a good time to jump in.

Odd mix?
MGS3 is an logically choice since it's actually the begining, you play as Naked Snake/IE Big Boss, and Peace Walker follows him 10 years later but MGS2 you play as Clone Snake/Solid Snake for a few minutes than freaking Raiden for the rest? They should have done Portable Ops instead because that would make an Naked Snake Tri Pack.
Solid Snake became the main character in the orginal Metal Gear. So you would have MG, MGS, and MGS4 if you wanted to follow his story.
Raiden should be just MG2, the new MGS Rising, and maybe MGS4 since he pops up in that one as well.

I don't think Portable Ops is part of the canon anymore.
I'm both excited and pissed about this. Having just played through MGS3 Subsistance, I know how badly that game needs an HD update. It looks awful now: everything's dark and muddy, and the character models blur into the backgrounds. On the other hand, I JUST BOUGHT Peace Walker. Now, it IS barely playable because of the PSP's control scheme and the game's...uh..."unique" controls. Now here's my question: will Peace Walker be playable on the PS3? With the PS3 controller? Because that might work.
Anyway, I'm ultimately excited about this, especially if there's Trophy support. I'll happily play through all three games again. I wish Twin Snakes were part of the collection, but that's probably impossible. Oh, oh, and I hope that add the camera from Subsistence into MGS2.

Yeah, I'm afraid the lack of Twin Snakes/MSG1 in this collection is a bit of a deal-breaker for me, despite my having already played Twin Snakes. This is a series with an absolutely insane attention to its own mythology, and I wouldn't relish having to tackle the rest of the franchise without a refresher on the first game. I wasn't a big enough fan of Twin Snakes to want to play the rest of the series otherwise.

Might be worth it just for Peace Walker on the PS3, since I don't have a PSP. Kind of like how if you didn't have Metroid Prime 3 already Metroid Prime Trilogy would be the way to go even if you have the other two.
