Title: Huge Nintendo wedding gift!
Post by: Tanookisuit on June 01, 2011, 04:28:02 PM
My fiancee just surprised me today with this Nintendo Popeye arcade cabinet! She's crazy! I love this game. It's like ultimate Donkey Kong. The animations are great, it's super challenging, and the music is really catchy. I've always wanted an arcade cabinet of this!

Wow, that is awesome! And the best thing is that due to licencing issues Nintendo can't release an arcade perfect version on the VC. This is in many ways a lost game and you have the only (legal) way to play the original version of it.

Congratulation! That cabinet looks to be in excellent condition. Is that the future Misses in the picture? If so Congrats again.

Ha ha. Yeah, she also happens to be a very pretty girl. Out of my league. I'm a lucky guy.

I'm assuming that's you beside her. Your not bad.

Ceric- we had a talented photographer. I'm a goblin.
And Ian- yeah, I wasn't satisfied with the NES version, and the chances of this ever appearing on virtual console are so slim, so I'm stoked to get it. Plus, this is kind of the game Miyamoto wanted to make when he made Donkey Kong, so it feels like a really integral part of Nintendo history.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you look like a Bond villain in that photo.

Yeah. I almost always kind of look villainous/mean. Serves me well as a teacher.

Hey, I'm (going to be in a few years) a teacher. What do you teach?

I teach art classes. I teach comics classes to college students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I also teach jr high and high school kids at various places- everything from animation to painting. I teach part time and make art the rest of the time.

Thats cool. I always wanted to get into animation but I can't draw or really write. Though I know how things should be and would love to produce but without the other two and a really good social network you can kiss that goodbye. Though that is a cool sounding job.

That cabinet is awesome and that pic is great. You look like a younger cast version of House M.D.

Awww...that is totally awesome. That's one of those things that I'd love to have, but I'd never have the room to store. Popeye was always one of my faves! That...Crystal Castles, and the old Star Wars game with vector graphics.
Edit: Oh, and Tanookisuit, congrats on the pending wedding. My best wishes for many years of happiness to come!

I was just in Chicago for the National Restaurant Association convention. Great town, wish I could have seen more of it.
I was also (long time ago) accepted at the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning in Jersey. Couldn't go though, too expensive. But it was still quite a process to get that far.
And please don't take my comments any way other than jest. Congrats to you both, definately.
I have a memory of playing Popeye on the Atari 2600 during a New Year's Eve party. 1984, maybe... I surely would have enjoyed the arcade one.
