Title: Star Fox 64 3D to Feature Motion Controls
Post by: Crimm on April 26, 2011, 05:45:14 PM

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata provided some details about the upcoming 3DS remake.

Star Fox 64 3D, the "newly-arranged version" of the Nintendo 64 classic, will feature gyroscopic Arwing controls, as revealed by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata during Nintendo's Financial Results Briefing earlier today.

Iwata didn't offer many more details on what exactly was going to be newly arranged in the game, but he reiterated that the title is set to release on July 14, 2011 in Japan.

There is no release date set in North America and Europe, though it is expected to come out during the summer.

So it will control like crap.  Good to know.  I'll be content with my N64 cartridge.

Lol, I'm excited for those controls and I'm sure they will offer traditional controls

We have known since E3 that there will be traditional controls, as the demo at the event used the Circle Pad to steer the Arwing.
The controls have nothing to do with my apprehension. I'm still waiting to hear exactly what they are doing with this port/remake in terms of additional content.

What if the gyroscope controls are only optional?

Have there been any indications that Star Fox 3DS will include local or online multiplayer?

And I'm skeptical of gyration, considering it will involve moving the 3DS screen out of the 'sweet spot'.

Hopefully they aren't 'Dinosaur Planetting' this up.

That's exactly what I wanted them to do with a flight game on the Wii!

Oh well...

Have you played Blazing Angels? Its a WW2 air combat game where you get to fly real life bombers and fighters that were used during WW2. There is a version of it for the Wii and there are a bunch of control methods you can use, and one of them involves holding the wiimote on its side and you can tilt it to control the plan. Its really fun...

If you haven't played it I would recommend getting it. I believe it should be very cheap now since it came out around 2006-2007.

wouldn't motion controls force the player to continually go in and out of the "sweet spot"?

It does.  Thats why I play Super Monkey Ball in 2D.

Yeah because we know it isn't an optional feature right?

Considering I've played it with the Circle Pad - clearly motion only controls.

What I'd love to see would be the ability to fly the Arwing with motion controls but still adjust your aim with the circle pad.

How do you F up my favorite game of all time? Give it some motion controls.

I LIKE motion controls, but they were not designed when that game was made. This had better be an option you can turn off, otherwise this game went from a reason why to eventually buy a 3DS to why not to buy one.

Non-motion controls confirmed for a year ago (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/23361)

Keep in mind the Circle Pad was still being called the "Slide Pad." They're the same thing.
