Title: Rare
Post by: ShyGuy on February 08, 2011, 09:28:20 PM
Rare, Ltd. is a British video game development company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_developer) founded in 1982 by brothers Tim and Chris Stamper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_and_Chris_Stamper)

Would this thread have anything to do with my latent obsession with the company and my wanting of their titles on Virtual Console? If so, I mainly mention it not so much that I want to annoy everyone on this forum, but I see it as a comical way to get along with everyone on this forum. More or less a funny way of expressing myself on this forum.

Hell, I had to sell my bottle of champaign labeled "Use only if more Rare titles appear on Virtual console" simply because I have excepted the truth that it will necer happen. Alas, I have turned to purchasing all the old Rare cartridges to satisfy my urge to play their games. Hell, I have bought all of the Time Splitters games for the Gamecube just to have access to the Stamper brother's game design style. I absolutely love (or loved) this fucking company and their IPs.

What burns me up so much about this whole debacle is not that Microsoft actually owns Rare, but the fact that they have both neglected and RAPED their IPs. They could have most likely been put to better use on Nintendo's systems. Yes, that remake of Perfect Dark did farely well on XBLA, but I would bet my last dollar that it would have done better on Wii ha it been released there simply because of nostalgic reasons on behalf of Nintendo loyalists.

I have always wondered what I would do if more Rare titles appeared on VC?

I briefly locked this thread, with the intent of making a parody thread called "Locked."

I realized it wasn't funny, so I unlocked it.

Could we use this thread as both a therapy session for myself and a comical thread for everyone else?

I'm not sure the final result of that would be well for us.

Oh! Sorry about that, but I did not realize that I said those words. You may prepare either the tobasco sauce or a bar of soap to wash my mouth out.  ;)

it would be funny if Rare had two company names just so they could be refounded if some giant corporation like microsoft bought them.

I have to wonder how lucrative Rare has been for Micorsoft in the last ten years versus how much they paid for them. It seems to me like Microsoft just got an expensive hollow shell of of Rare's former glory. Most of the games they have developed for Microsoft have been met with mixed reviews and what I am thinking is that Microsft could eventually selll them off to another company. Honestly, I would have loved for them to have been bought by Activision or EA.

Edit: Rare did develop Microsoft's avatar (Mii rip off) system for the 360, but what have they done beside this to help the company.

Rare created the software tech behind Kinect, which has been a huge success for Microsoft.

Nope.

They should go back to the only thing they ever did right... Battletoads.

I have no sources to back this up, so it is only hear say, but I have heared that the Battletoads series is in a legal rights spider-web of its own between Rare, EA and Tradewest and that is why we have not seen a new title in the series since the SNES or mid 1990s.
