Title: Nintendo Blocks Use of Mario Theme in Bieber Movie
Post by: NWR_Lindy on January 21, 2011, 06:06:31 PM

Nintendo apparently has yet to catch a case of Bieber Fever.

Director Jon M. Chu is claiming that Nintendo has blocked the use of the Mario theme music in his newest movie project, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.

In a January 15 Twitter post, Chu directed the following comment at Nintendo:

"aw C'mon Nintendo! Y won't u let us use the Mario theme for 15 secs in the @Justinbieber movie...talk about free advertising passed up. Oops"

The Mario theme-less Justin Bieber: Never Say Never hits theaters in 3D on February 11.

WHEW! Thank GOD! Dodged a bullet THERE Nintendo! It's good to see Nintendo give a big "**** You" to the mother of douche bags himself.

Is Bieber the douche bag or is John M Chu the douche bag in this situation?

What kind of Director talks like that? My God... get someone who is competent at communicating to persuade Big N, not this guy. They obviously don't understand that unlike this Bieber hype, Nintendo is timeless, and they don't want to represent the current teen sensation fad that is Justin Bieber.

So sorry John, but Nintendo....

hey director...you have to ask permission to use music or pay royalties....

i wrote a screenplay, and im thinking about re-writing the scenes where i wanted specific music just for this reason.

Isn't there some saying that goes "any publicity is good publicity"?

Nintendo allowed Zelda music in Scott Pilgrim- which was used to great effect.  I'm glad to see they're being a little choosey.

Nintendo has had no problem letting people use its IP in the past, as others have noted.  It sounds more like the problem is with the use or the user rather than with the Nintendo being obstinate.

Because if it's one thing the Mario franchise needs, it's free advertising.

I came in to post the exact thing. It wasn't just zelda music either, but notable effects from the game, even a couple of Mario references.
