Title: Any ideas for good gift for 6 year old girl for Christmas ?
Post by: AV on November 26, 2010, 09:03:58 PM
My Niece currently has a DSi and will get a Wii for Christmas. She has pretty much all the Disney movies and has plenty of barbies. I bought her a webkinz dog last year, FYI.
I was thinking of a DS game but I don't want to buy her crappy like Imagine babyz or something, but a decent game that a 6 year old girl will enjoy. I think Mario games might be too difficult for her and obviously something with very limited if no reading. Kirby Epic Yarn sounds great but I don't want to spend $50 on her but more like $20-35
She does own Nintendogs btw

Might I suggest a Wii game instead since Wii will be the new hotness in her life.
Maybe Just Dance, Just Dance 2 or Disney Sing It: Family Hits (All Disney Movie Songs).
I'm sure she would love any of those 3 especially the last one.

She'll end up neglecting some of the games if she get a lot of them at once.
Get her a sweater with a unicorn on it, pink socks, candy...

How about Zack & Wiki? It's fairly family-friendly, it's bright and colorful, and there's very little reading in favor of contextual puzzles and cartoon logic. You could also play the game with her using controller 2 to help her out. It also is probably pretty cheap by this point.

Hmm...just had a thought, but wouldn't A Boy and His Blob also be a pretty good buy on Wii for a 6-year old? Sure, the game's kind of hard but considering you don't want to pay $50 for Kirby it's hard to recommend a cheap, easy, and good game for that age bracket.

Kirby Super Star Ultra is probably a) easier to find and b) offers a bit more replay value than Canvas Curse (in my opinion). If you don't want to go the Epic Yarn route, that might be a good pickup.
Then again, my nephew's about the same age and I'm likely getting him the Mario Collection, so I'm a bit of an outlier in my recommendations.

get her a camera and show her how to use it, kids who get cameras at young ages end up being like super directors when they are older. She could be the next Katherine Bigelow! Maybe a toy keyboard and she could become like a totally awesome musician.

I'm surprised this topic didn't go in a complete opposite direction...
I say, Kirby Super Star Ultra or New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. Both are great games - and don't underestimate a 6 year old's ability to play games. Reading aside (of which there is none in NSMB or Kirby), if the kid likes the game, she'll step up to the challenge. It'll help if there's someone around often enough (you?) to, perhaps, help beat a level or a boss here or there. You may have to be her own occasional Super Guide.

I'm a little hesitant to give her a game that uses buttons and control pad. She has gotten used to playing touch screen based games with my brother and it seems like she understands those games more.

Ok I found on amazon some good prices.
Bejeweled Twist : $14.99 Magneitica : $12.95
I played Magnitica and its a Zuma clone, and Bejeweled Twist is a good game and both will equal about $32 so its a good price and she will be entertained. I'm thinking within a year or 2 I could get her mario or kirby thats a little more complex.

My 6 year old is crazy about Hanna Montana, Justin Beier (whatever I don't care about him), Tinkerbell, Strawberry Shortcake, and the new Rainbow Brite. She also loves anything that lets her dress up and/or pretend to be a dancing/singing star. She has a Hanna Montana microphone that records for like 30 seconds. She's constantly singing into it and putting on shows for other kids.

This thread would have totally different answers if it was in the funhouse.
Anyhow, I have a (basically) 5 year old daughter, on the Wii she likes the Go Diego Go games, and she likes Kinectimals on the 360. I got rid of the DS, but there was a Dora game she liked on there.
