Scheme uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and is similar to GoldenEye 64's controls.

GoldenEye for Wii is going to feature an accessible control scheme that echoes the original game's controls. In the scheme, you use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, but you don't use the sensor bar.

It works by having all of the character movement done on the Nunchuk. The control stick functions the same way the control stick functioned in the standard controls in GoldenEye 64. When you press A, you can use the stick to strafe, which is similar to what the C buttons did in the original.

The control scheme isn't meant for all gamers, according to Executive Producer Julian Widdows, and while it seems almost directly inspired by the original game's controls, it wasn't meant that way from the start.

Its origins lie in a meeting with Nintendo about a year ago, where controller innovation was discussed. Eurocom was originally planning to just fine-tune the standard Wii Remote and Nunchuk control scheme, but Nintendo urged them to innovate on the controls. So, after a lot of work with the Mario Club crew in Europe, they wound up with a pointer-less Wii Remote and Nunchuk control scheme that coincidentally mimics GoldenEye 64.

GoldenEye comes out on Wii on November 2.

Why would anyone use this control scheme?  If you're going to have a Wiimote-centric control scheme, use the pointer!  Sheesh, this is Amateur Hour stuff.  That Nintendo even seems to have encouraged this control scheme is bizarre.  If I ever play the game, I guess I'll have to use my CC Pro.

will it have standard wiimote controls too? I haven't heard about that yet, I'll try this out but so far I haven't heard ANYTHING about wiimote controls and I don't want to assume they will work fine. I have become used to THE CONDUIT and to a lesser extent Metroid Prime 3 controls and anything less than that level is not acceptable in 2010, not every FPS on Wii has had great controls so I am justified in worrying about this. I want wiimote and nunchuck ALONGSIDE classic and gamecube controller support

I also want to know if this game even has pointer control, because I'm not buying it if it doesn't.

From the sounds of it, there are 2 control schemes: Classic Controller (typical dual-analog controls) and this strange Wiimote + Nunchuck sans pointer control option.  It doesn't sound like there's a control scheme with pointer control in this game, because that would just make too much damn sense.

Why would you not want to use the IR pointer? That's the best a console is ever going to get for controlling a FPS, and they're throwing it out in favor of clunky dual-analog crap? Bizarre.

Actually, as by the control layout mention in this article, they are tossing it out for single analogue. The default control setting in Goldeneye was already the worst control scheme in the game, so I don't know why anyone would want to emulate it.

I'm sorry for the confusion this is doling out.

This is just one of multiple control options. There will also be regular old Wii Remote and Nunchuk Pointer stuff. We got more GoldenEye coverage coming soon.

Well, that's more like it.  That wasn't making any sense given that the Wii's main strength is pointer control.

This game was already only a "maybe" for me; if they hadn't included pointer control there's no way I'd buy this.

That is NOTHING like the original scheme. In the original you could use the stick and the c-buttons at the same time. Now, a control scheme with the stick for movement and the d-pad for c-button style aiming would be a better fit.

Alright, reading the comments here, it seems I have no need to be worried.

I managed to write yet another baffled post about whether or not their would be pointer controls.
