Miyamoto: “My best is yet to come” (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/38434/Miyamoto-My-best-is-yet-to-come)
Quote
Nintendo general manager wants Wii 2 to be “unique” and hints at new Starfox
World-renowned games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has said his best work is yet to come, and the challenge of building the next line of consoles comes down to how unique Nintendo can make theirs.
In an interview with GamesTM he said: “In the past five years I’ve been working on such unusual titles like Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.
“Ten years ago I could never have been able to imagine that I would be making games like that. That’s why I can say that the best is yet to come to me.”
GamesTM also quizzed the Nintendo legend on a HD Wii console.
“Technology is always evolving and Nintendo, just like other companies, is going to integrate those technologies into our new products as they develop,” Miyamoto added.
Whether that be a Wii HD, Wii 2 or an entirely new console, I am not in a position to say at the moment.
“I think that in the next generation of hardware, the challenge is how unique and different a product Nintendo is able to make.”
When GamesTM told Miyamoto that they’d love to see a new Starfox game for Wii, he replied: “Me too.”
I bet he winked ( ;) ) after that "Me Too" comment. Will Starfox be a 3DS title? or will he save it for "Wii Too".
Who knows, but I wonder what he has planned since his "best is yet to come".

I think he just meant that as the technology gets better and the more inventive the hardware gets, the better the games he can make. That said, I wonder what Nintendo has planned for a new console. With MS and Sony copying the Wii ideology, Nintendo will have really think outside the box for this one.

I think the next Star Fox (NOT Starfox) game would be a good fit for the 3DS, I am not sure how eager Nintendo is to make a new one though. The last three have not been successful from a critical standpoint or a sales standpoint. O the other hand, none of those three were internally developed (they were by Rare, Namco, and Q-Games).
I am also not sure why the write of that article thinks Miyamoto was hinting at a new Star Fox game just because he said he would like to see a new one, executives have made similar comments about other series and had nothing happen.

Because Miyamoto gets what he wants.

True, Starfox is an old game for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. However, one could argue that Starfox or StarFox would be acceptable as there is no apparent space on the box and title:

Yeah, but boxarts are not really reliable for the correct way to write the name of a game. Whenever Nintendo writes the name (like in a press release), it's always "Star Fox".

Nintendo is an inconsistent bitch.
It's StarFox.
While we're at it,
killer7 / Killer7 / Killer 7 / killer 7

It's Star Fox.
As for that other game, Killer7 (stylized as killer7).

Wii 1 hasn't even got a Star Fox title yet. I think it should get one before the Wii 2 does...

Miyamoto didn't completely say there would be no Wii HD, thats a first as far as I remember.
It will be interesting to see how Nintendo is going to top it self next time. I can see the motion being even more precise that motion pluss, as well as the vitality sensor built into the controller. But that isn't much at all, considering Microsoft and Sony will be full on Motion next time around right from the get go.
As for Star Fox, I get excited when it's even mentioned by Nintendo and at every E3 I keep expecting it. Hopefully this time around we'll see it. Yup, baseless hopes are great!

Keep Q-Games away from it, have EAD TOKYO as developer, and you got a recipe for awesome.

This reminds me of something my brothers and I quote all the time. Paul Stanley of Kiss once said in an interview "it goes up from here" in response to the idea that Kiss were past their prime. This was in the 90's when the original lineup reformed and returned to wearing the face paint. In other words they WERE past their prime and things pretty much DOWN from there. My brothers and I like to use this quote ironically, usually when making fun of delusional public figures who are past their prime.
So unfortunately that's the first thing I thought of when I read this since Miyamoto is getting on in the years and his absolute best games seem to be at least ten years old. Let's hope he's right, I guess. Personally if his output just remains consistent I'll be happy. I don't need the best of Miyamoto, I just don't want Miyamoto to ever suck.

His examples of games he never thought he'd be making are "WiiFit Plus and Wii Sports Resort." Then he goes on to say the best is yet to come. I personally already see this as a downward trend. Not that WF+ and WSR are bad games... they're just not as good (imo) as what he'd usually make.
But... if he just makes Pikmin 3, I'd be happy enough. :)

Perhaps he's judging those games by their innovation and the success they've found with a huge, previously untapped audience. Maybe ten years ago he didn't think games like these could be possible, or even successful, and this realization excites him as his work goes forward.
But I don't want to pretend like I'm aware of his impressions. Just a thought.

Realize though that ten years ago the N64 was just ending it's five year struggle against the PSX, and Nintendo was prepping the Gamecube. Wii Fit, if made for the GCN back in the early 2000s, could still be a success.
COULD being the key word. After the **** ups that Namco made with Star Fox, I bet Shiggy would have alot more control over the next Star Fox game on a Nintendo console. (Star Fox Command doesn't count.)

Haha, maybe I shouldn't have said anything (it's just a pet peeve of mine to see people get game/movie names wrong).
Edit: Damn you BlackNMild

Didn't Yokoi say something similar right before releasing the Virtual Boy? :P
I do respect Miyamoto and I do believe he is capable of great things, but let's not forget his recent Wii Music fiasco. I'm just saying he is not infallible, and it may be his talent has been exhausted.

That's nonsense. Miyamoto is perfect, and everything he's ever done is perfect and the best ever.

What I find interesting is that he specifically stated Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort, and not Wii Fit and Wii Sports. I actually wonder if this means he didn't expect that he would be creating sequels that are so direct, and would have had more creative freedom to make something more unique.
Like you say though, his comment can be interpreted in many ways, so it's anyone's guess what he actually meant.

If anything Starfox related, maybe Nintendo is testing Sin & Punishment 2 to see how well it sells in the NA/EU markets?
Maybe they will give Starfox to Treasure?

But if that's true then how do you explain Wii Music?
Miyamoto's talents are best served with traditional gaming, imo. This non-gamer stuff really doesn't do his creativity justice.
