Title: So.. I'm going to Japan...

This will be my first trip there, hopefully not the last. I won't be going until June but I'm already pretty excited as I've always wanted to go.
My brother was the one that suggested it as a family trip, and the rest of the fam thought it'd be pretty awesome which surprised me. We're going with a native Japanese friend of his, and she's pretty fun to hang with. I almost recently hung out with her and two of her friends visiting from Japan.. one of which is a porn star..!? So we might chill with them over there now.. in fact, its pretty much a definite.
I just wonder what to expect from this week long experience... I'm hoping for this:

Before I start, I'd just like to say that I've been to three cities in Japan and you're going to have a great time; guaranteed. It is such a different place that you might **** yourself upon landing though. That said, I need to know a few things before I start shaping your frame of mind:
Are you going with your parents?
Where are you going exactly?
Is your girlfriend coming?
And is this the first time you've ever been out of the country (Canada and Mexico do not count!)?
If you'd like my advice hit me up. Otherwise, I wish you the best on your journeys and God bless.

The time has come. I'm packing my bag now, and plan on playing some wii games until as late as possible.. my plane leaves @ 11:30a EST, its a 14 hour trip from NY to JPN.. I plan on sleeping for most of it, because the night we land (6:30pm JPN time) we already have a party to go to :D haha
I've been thinking it over, life's been pretty good lately and I'm a pretty generous guy.. I have the addresses of a few forum members here, and I'm thinking about getting you guys a gift! Nothing big, just a small trinket from my trip in honour of how awesome and tight this community used to be is. You "friends" deserve it.
I wanna share the love though, so the first 3 people to pm me a request shall receive a gift. Note: by first 3 people I mean whoever I pick out of the X amount of you that PM me. Unless only 3 of you do, in which the first rule applies again.
If you get a reply for me, you get a trinket when I get back. If not, don't be offended I probably just couldn't get a wi-fi signal to check my email lololololol i don't like you.
I'm pretty excited about the trip, i plan on taking tons of picture, i'll be sure to check so stay tuned to this thread! I think I have everything packed now.. there's just one burning question;

I'm gonna shower cuz I'm falling asleep then I'll try to Labrynth before I Wii. My computer might have really choppy visuals but I might remember enough to fill in the blanks. I can wii after, since i'm good at staying up if playing a game. If i saved the movie for after, i'd probably fall asleep. Good call.

PS I bought Captain Rainbow for under $10, found that Tingle DS game for around $15 but didn't pick it up (i'm debating if I should get it or not) and I'm trying to hunt down a copy of Mother 1+2 and 3!
Mr. Saturn is popular in crane games here.. and he's completely impossible to win! I'm thinking of just stealing one or begging someone to sell it to me out of the machine..

The Tingle DS game is in Japanese, so unless you can read Kanji you're better off importing the game from Europe.
Is Mother 1 + 2 on GBA in English? If so, you should totally buy me a copy and I'll pay you back. ;D

i forgot it was released in Europe, thanks for saving me $15. As for Mother 1+2, I'm pretty sure they're in Japanese (which is fine for Mother 2 since I know the game inside out) but if i can find it at a decent enough price to get a second copy, sure. Besides, i know theres a mother 3 fan translation out there (www.starmen.net} so I'm sure there is one for Mother 1+2 to help you out. Even if you decide against it after i buy a second copy, I'll just sell it on ebay for assloads :D

Too late..
I'm back in NY, and I missed Tokyo from the second I stepped into Customs and the customs agents were rude, loud and obnoxious. I especially missed Tokyo when I stepped into the restrooms of JFK International Airport.. ugh.
I'll update the thread with pics and stories at a later date (Wednesday?), and I'll send a PM to those lucky few who are getting some of my excess trinkets.

My mother, brother, sister and myself plus 2 possible hispanics we passed on the way to Meiji shrine (if thats even the name of it, i can't remember) and one confirmed Mexican we ran into @ Rapongi Hills who stated he lives and works there. The 1/2 is my girlfriend whose father is from El Salvador.
? It's not like I got to see the entire country, maybe there's a Little Havannah of sorts there? There were a lot more Indians than I would've imagined, at least ONE Greek guy selling gyros (I kid you not) and a handful of Nigerians which I LOL'd at cuz I happened to read something about touring Japan which warned not to "stray off the beaten path" not because its dangerous but because, appearantly, the Yakuza "import" these big Nigerians to basically hustle the obvious tourist into their clubs/hostess bars where they'll "pursuade" you into blowing all your cash.

Don't pay attention to stuff like that; it's crap.
Japan, and even Tokyo, is ultra-safe, and probably one of the safest places in the world for straying off the beaten path; in fact you're probably safer if you don't look Japanese, because in some cases where someone would bother a Japanese, they'll leave you alone. Take advantage of that ultra-safeness and explore like crazy. [Another pro-random-exploration point is that Tokyo has so many train/subway stations, that you almost don't need to worry about getting lost -- no matter where you go, you'll eventually run into a station.]
In central Roppongi (but essentially nowhere else), you'll see big foreigners (indeed, mostly from Africa AFAICT) aggressively trying to lure you into seedy clubs, but you can easily just ignore them; they're annoying, but they won't do anything beyond constant whining. [Actually, there's been a crackdown in the last few years, so these days they've become almost timid.]
My advice: Just avoid central Roppongi; it's probably the tackiest and least interesting place in Tokyo. Problem solved.
But do explore. Tokyo is one of the coolest places on the planet.

Funny you say that.. i DID buy used panties for my friend Mark. I was kinda pissed when I realized later that the panties on the model (pink) weren't the same as in the package (black) but if you saw how creepy that store was, you woulda been in a rush picking them out too. I tried to go to super potato but we couldn't find it. There were tons of similar stores though and on my second trip there I ended up finding everything I wanted;
Mother 1+2 (GBA, Mother 2 (SNES), Mother 3 (GBA) and even won a Master Belch plush from a crane game there!
Oh and I was accosted by a tiny japanese maid..

I received a package in teh mail from our very own Easycure (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/446648535_photobucket_9879_.jpg)
I can't read any of it except the Newspaper and the travel guide but I appreciate you sending it all anyway. I'm sure I'll actually get some use out of some of the stuff too... well except the Japanese prophylactic, it looks a "little" small(shoudl fit comfortably on my thumb), but it's the thought that counts ;). The slippers look and feel comfortable through the packaging and the chopsticks will definitely get plenty of use. I did notice that there is a distinct lack of kinky Japanese items in this package though, but there is a book that was plastic wrapped that may have that covered. I'll open it later and find out. :D
anyway, thanks for the delivery, I owe you for shipping though. I'll have to buy you a drink or two one of these days.... or you know... mail you a check or something :P

I too received a package in the mail from EasyCure today.I don't have a camera so I'm just going to describe the items.
A Black Shirt with the words Nintendo is Awesome! The words are Blue,Indigo,red,orange,then yellow going from left to right.A Red NES controller is underneath Nintendo and is Awesome is under the controller.Got 3 stars to the left and right of the controller. Got a set of Chopsticks with a Mountain on it.
Got 2 Mario Party 8 cards.One is of Boo and the other is Birdo.They have their Japan names in English as well as in text,Also has some gum inside.
Also a package of tissues. The outside has a cute girl talking on a cell phone and she has a halo above her head.Also some cute creatures with wings are on the side.This may not seem that much but I sometimes sneeze constantly and it shows EasyCure pays attention.
I also got a book that looks like it has lots of ads inside it.
Also got some slippers and a pin with Link on it.
Lastly there is the newspaper and some ads to places.
Also got a map. A few that I noticed was an ad about anime and a curry restaurant. Glad you were paying attention to my posts Easycure. Oh it all came in a bag from the Nintendo World Store. I have been meaning to send you something but I misplaced the last envelop from when you sent me Pikmin.

In hindsight I should of sent you a KFC flyer ;) Are you sure the prophylactic is really that small? Cuz if you plan on fitting into those slippers, I highly doubt thats the case. Either way, you're welcome. At the same time, I'd like to thank you for letting me send you some of my garbage. There's only like.. two things in all your packages that I actually spent money on (not counting receipts for metro tickets).

Actually I don't pay that much attention.. I think everyone received tissues; It seems like every other block, someone was outside handing them out. For one sole exception, every tissue packet my family or I received had some sort of advertisement on it. It really is a much better way to advertise your restaurant/electronics store/call-girl service/sex dungeon than handing out a simple flyer. They give you something you can use especially at all non-electronics stores!!
Uhm, the shirt is used however I'm pretty sure I washed it before sending it.. I was going through my closet, getting rid of some stuff that doesn't fit or I just don't wear anymore. I put some up on criagslist for sale, but before I did I asked everyone that was going to get a package from me their shirt size. Only two of you weren't fat-asses. Kudos. The pin was originally from the Nintendo World Store, bought it years ago and never really put it on anything. So yeah, it's not really from Japan (most likely made in China) but hey, its free and at least you can say you have souvenires from both Japan AND New York. A few of the other random possession I gave away (am I dying?) are LoZ buttons/pins, maybe even a Mario pin or two; I can't remember.
Oh and way to make BnM feel bad, he didn't get a shirt!

This is odd. You live much closer to me than BnM or Maxi, yet you received it late. I tracked all packages yesterday and everyone but Toruresu received their packages 10/25. His was "out for delivery" as of yesterday.
You're both just haters, jealous that you don't get to enjoy my package. And Mop, why the hell is your score so high? Did you beg to have it at 64 because you're such a fan of the Nintendo system of the same way? If not, I don't understand.. thought points should be based on GOOD posts..

Thanks a lot for the swag, it was awesome. I did not get a shirt, guess I'm a fat ass? but I did get tons of stuff, including receipts! I also got a DS Mario Kart wrist strap with a little Mario key chain, awesome chopsticks, slippers, Mario Party playing cards, tissues and a book of sex services, or at least thats what I can figure out.

Not a fat ass, perhaps you just like wearing clothing a size bigger, not form fitting etc. Or what UB/BnM said! No offense there plus, be careful what you say around Mop it up or she'll get "defensive" because she doesn't know what FUN is
