Title: Why is Ian on the Gestapo watch list?
Post by: ShyGuy on January 23, 2010, 04:29:31 AM
Is this Deguello's doing?

He was trolling a thread back on the 19th. In the E32010 prediction topic in Handheld discusion. Here is what I figure Ian is going to do. He is going to play nice until his 27 days is up than he is going to be back to his usual self.

If Ian's post there is trolling then half the board needs to be banned. Unless something was deleted or edited that I missed. I see nothing wrong with his post there.

Well there was numerous posts that he did that day so it might not be that one specifically. I just found another one. In the Nintendo being teabaged thread. He said that having motion controls is a half assed justification for a minor hardware upgrade.

I actually looked at most of his posts from that day and the day before and after and still didn't find anything off.

I haven't been a mod for a while, so I doubt it's me.

Well I know it is Pap64 that issued the warning.

If you make a next gen game with conventional controls thejustification for its existence would be improved graphics and moreenemies on screen and that kind of stuff that improves because ofhardware. No one bought a Wii to have slightly better looking Gamecubegames. The motion control is the ONLY justification of the Wii evenexisting. It is otherwise a completely half-assed sorry excuse for ahardware upgrade. So if you're making a Wii game I can see why youwould feel the need to force in some sort of motion control so thatyour game doesn't look like a rip-off. And then your game plays likepiss because you're in over your head.
Still not that bad I think, but it's the closest thing I could find.

Yeah that was from the Nintendo being teabagging topic. There was another one in the the E3 2010 topic. It is the first paragraph that is a elitist, condecending, trollish comment.

We'll see at least 10 minutes dedicated to Nintendo patting themselveson the back. Wii Relax will get the most time. Super Mario Galaxy 2and Metroid will be shown. Nothing by Retro Studios will be shown. Something that's pretty cool and targetted at core gamers will not beshown at the conference and just be somewhat sneaked in Nintendo'spress kit with no fanfare. No Wii third party games with any realpotential will be announced.
This?

NO one will ever know why (except for the Mod that issued the warning and maybe Ian), but it could be from years upon years of comments that finally earned him a warning.
It's only 30 days and it's not like he needs mod approval to post something, so I sure he barely even notices.

I hope it was because of something more than the examples posted in this thread, because I see nothing wrong, at least when it comes to violating the rules. It's none of my business, though.

Saying you disagree with Nintendo in a thread in which the counter argument IS disagreeing with Nintendo is NOT trolling.
Trolling is saying a non-sequitur that is intentionally trying to cause a tired argument in a thread.
Keep that in mind as your cursor is hovering over the report to moderator button Maxi (and others).

Also, the biggest reason Ian brings up his same arguments all the time, is that soooo many people on these boards keep making threads in which they discuss how wonderful nintendo is. Both are getting tired in my opinion.

Typical. Ian doesn't have his 26% anymore.

Ian never should have been warned. He has a dissenting opinion. There's nothing wrong with that. If you don't like what he says either refute it in a civil manner or simply ignore his posts.
And for the record, he does still have a 26% warning. You just can't see it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where are these topics? The only one I see which might qualify is the Wii sales thread. Besides, shouldn't a positive attitude be encouraged? I guess I shouldn't write that editorial I was considering, "Nintendo is awesome and you abandoned ship".

lol Iansane on a watchlist...lol people who put him there are still Noobs, he's been bitching about something worth bitching about since the early GCN days. He really is a Nintendo fan, but he points out much of their shortcomings.

Glad some of the mods have level heads in the matter.
I really doubt Bill will come back if Ian leaves. I don't think it is healthy for the board to be thinking like this either. If you keep trying to chase away members you don't like then potential newcomers who relate to those people will be less likely to actually join for fear of similar ridicule and persecution. Don't people want to see this board grow and flourish? Having a variety of differing opinions fosters good discussion and better nurtures everyone's ideology's. If everyone had the same opinion then the conversations would stagnate and we could very easily kill off the board.
We don't want a hive mentality. ;) (http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww295/SuperStratos/swarm.jpg)

A Swarm hive is almost impossible to detect. When a hapless victim stumbles on a forum that houses a Swarm and disturbs it with an offending message, the Swarm will erupt and fly at their victim from all directions. Taken one at a time the irrelevant, often mindless individual attacks can be easily brushed aside, but because of the sheer volume of the assault even the strongest Warriors must eventually yield. WARNING: Only those who are highly skilled in Swarm management techniques should attempt to wade into a Swarm hive. but even with protective clothing opposing Warriors should expect to suffer a few stings.

I personally don't think what Ian has been doing can even remotely be considered trolling.

The Flame Warrior's Guide to the Internet defines a Troller as follows:
Quote
(http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww295/SuperStratos/troller.jpg)Troller is looking for a response...ANY response, and he will chum the waters with complaints, insults, compliments, and inflammatory tidbits hoping that someone...ANYONE, will take the bait. Generally quite harmless - practices a form of catch and release. Nonetheless, he can upset the delicate ecology of a discussion forum. Once a forum becomes aware of his presence, however, all feeding activity ceases and Troller must move on to more promising waters.

That's what I thought as well. I couldn't figure out any reason for it except that the warning was given because the mod didn't like the opinion.

Is it against the rules to propose a violent coup to seize control of the forums in the name of the people? Because, if it is, then that's totally not what I'm doing.
