NOA's VP of Sales and Marketing offers a few nuggets of information in a recent interview.

Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's vice president of sales and marketing, recently sat down with CNET to discuss Nintendo's business as it heads into the 2009 holiday season.  While much of the interview covered well-worn territory, Dunaway did make a pair of interesting statements.

The first was in response to a question about the company's predictions for the lifecycle of the Wii console.  Dunaway admitted that Nintendo doesn't look at the Wii's lifecycle in the sense of hard numbers, focusing instead on whether or not the capabilities of the console have been exhausted before moving on.  Nintendo believes that there's still a lot to be exploited with the current hardware, and in terms of U.S. sales she mentioned that the Wii has sold 22 million units while the PS2 has sold 44 million.

Dunaway also confirmed that their research indicates 50 million gamers that have no console whatsoever, meaning that there is still market share to be gained by Wii in the arenas of gamers and non-gamers alike.

She also, perhaps inadvertently, confirmed a 2010 release for the Wii Vitality Sensor.  She described the Sensor as "something we'll launch next year", making its impending release all but a certainty.

Somthing is missing in this piece. Ahh I know!  More Dunaway personal anecdotes.

Bah, I never feel like interviews with Dunaway, Reggie, or Kaplan (when she was up front) amount to much aside from flag-waving and dancing-around certain things.

Check the original interview.  It's massive but contains nothing of value save these two pieces of information.  It's all marketing-speak.
