I had a lot of fun making this episode and I think that it turned out well.

After 2 months, I didn't think we'd get another "bi-weekly" Newscast. I'm glad it's back since I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes.

It really was a blast. Funny story, too: this is the second time we recorded it. Audacity is effing brilliant.

The Audacity beta is your friend. Use it, love it.

Audacity isn't my friend when it crashes on me during saving.

But if it crashed, that means the original recording should be on your hard drive still, as a collection of AU files.  Heck, at least in my version (the beta), if it doesn't save properly, it will even ask you to recover the files when you start the program again.

When I tried restoring it and piecing together 50 some odd fragments there were significant chunks missing.

You don't have to piece together anything, Luke. Audacity does it for you. The newest beta has auto-recovery. And it's far less likely to crash in the first place.

The voice in the beginning sounds so bored it reminded me of the "news" segments in AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!.

It's good that Newscast is being revived - always nice to hear informal reactions to news that you can't really get in an official article.

One observation I had, and this may be due to relatively little podcast experience for you three, is that the conversation didn't sound as fluid as it does on Radio Free Nintendo and Radio Trivia. There were a lot of awkward pauses and hesitations as if you guys weren't sure what to say. Plus, I also thought that Lukasz sounded like he was very bored. I wouldn't worry too much; I assume it's just anxiety or something, so this will likely improve as you all do more episodes and become more comfortable & familiar with the format.

Nevertheless, the content of the show was solid, and I enjoyed Zach's anecdotes and his amusing commentary on the terrible state of the British pound.

It does recover them, just in fragments. From my own experience with that crap, it makes it almost impossible to repair the audio as there are tons of gaps.

I just listened to the Newscast today, and the revival is on a good track. Andy did great in his first podcast (at least for our site), Zach is good for commentary, and Luke did well with keeping everyone on topic.

Yea, great job, guys! I listened to it and I greatly enjoyed it. I look forward to every subsequent episode. It does what my original intent was: digestible news-focused podcasts.

Andy, I'm really glad you revived it.

Out of curiosity, why were there no new ones for 2 months? You mentioned in Episode 2 that you hoped to get the next episode the following week so that you could maintain a bi-weekly release schedule.

Yup last time I tried recovering it, it turned 500 and some odd small fragments into 50 some odd bigger fragments using the recovery utility. Like Neal said, the utility got rid of some key segments or made it sound really awkward and it was beyond repair.

@killer_man_jaro - I understand the complaint and over time it should be more fluid. Even though we had to re-record it due to Audacity screwing up on Zach's end, the re-recorded version sounds better and more cohesive.

@TJ Spyke - Unfortunately, we attempted to record episode 3 a while ago with Neal, Zach, and I but the program crashed on me while I was saving my audio. I tried to recover it but that attempt was futile since some key points were missing which essentially killed it.   A few weeks ago Andy expressed his interest to revive the newscast and so did Zach. We just pinned down a date and time to record and finally got the ball rolling.

Audio problems and then Nick and I left NWR.

Nice work, guys! As for sounding as fluid as RFN, that will come.  The RFN crew has been at it for almost two years now (is that right?), so we've had time to develop a chemistry.  Greg also edits very  judiciously, so you hear no gaps at all.

Yeah, this is the first podcast I've edited really, so any gaps or pauses are due more than anything to that.  Next time will be better, hopefully.  Glad everyone seems to like it!  I think we have a good crew, and you can expect them to come out every other Friday for the foreseeable future.

There aren't many awkward silences on RFN anymore... just a lot of crosstalk.

I now talk over anybody at any time.  Sometimes I just put my headset down and start randomly talking into the mic.

Lindy, has anyone ever told you that you sound like Lieutenant Malcolm Reed from Star Trek: Enterprise? Every time I hear you talk, it reminds me of him.
