The record-tracking of the Nintendo Channel is definitely not 100% accurate. It shows that I have played Little King's Story for 9 hours, which I KNOW is false because my file has 20 hours on it. I don't know what might cause the channel to miss data, but it certainly does.

Do you ever turn off your Wii console without first existing back to the main menu? All of the time, the only time I return to the menu is when I switch games. I looked at the play history for all days since getting Little King's Story, and the time adds up to about 21 hours. It is being recorded but for some reason the Nintendo Channel isn't registering it.

My theory is that this is the problem. I never turn off my system without jumping back to the main menu first and all my times seem pretty accurate.I do it all of the time with every game and Little King's Story is the only game which seems inaccurate. Since it is still being recorded into the system memory then I doubt that would affect the Nintendo's Channel ability to compile all of the data. It's at least as equal a possibility as the same game being played on the same day not counting, or perhaps the game wasn't programmed correctly. Who knows.
i bet it updates everytime you power down your console. It'd make more sense to do it all at once then continuously.I don't think that's true. I've been checking it over the past few days now and none of the games I've played have increased in time.

Does anyone care to test if the data is updated instantly on their system?
Here's how you can do that: first load up the Nintendo Channel and check the time for the game you're about to play, and then go and play the game for however long you want. When you are finished, go back to the Nintendo Channel and check the time again for that game.
AFAIK the channel doesn't know about all games, only the ones registered in it. I've had some games I couldn't give feedback on either. Check if you can find the game with a search in the games list.
It's nice to see somebody else has Mario Party 8 on their list.

I decided to test this today. Both yesterday and today I played Shining Force II for about an hour and a half each. I logged into the Nintendo Channel this morning and the game still isn't showing up. I'll check again later and see if it shows up.I've been testing this all week. Sometimes the game I just played gets added into the total, and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't follow any sort of formula, it seems totally random. But it is good to know the problem exists for everyone because that means there isn't anything wrong with my system.

Yeah, I'm surprised more people don't have it on theirs. It's a very fun multiplayer game. Although I haven't gotten any Mario Partys prior to this since the first on the N64, so perhaps the franchise is still fresh to me compared to others.

It's not like I hate MP. I still enjoy the games when I play them, but I prefer Dokapon to MP when given a choice. Dokapon is what I play with my gamer/D&D/nerd friends and MP is what I play with family and more non-traditional players. We need a Mario Party 9 with online so that I can play it with you. Even worse, I'm pretty sure my own records are the same by now, I'll have to check them. Good idea? I did it in the very first post!
Interesting. I haven't really heard of people having more play time than they should; most people have less than what they actually played. Are you certain that you didn't accidentally leave the game on unattended?
46 hours of Swords & Soldiers!? What did you do in the game?
2. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -- 120 hours 18 mins -- 48 times
Completed 100%, plus a fair bit of multiplayer. In spite of that, I'm not convinced I've played it for that long. Maybe 30 to 35 hours, but 46? Unless someone else played it without me knowing, though I have my doubts about that. There are also a few games on my list which have more time than I thought. I checked the play history on the Wii Message Board and added it all up, and it was indeed correct. Unless the system itself has a problem with logging the correct amount of time...

Also, that's a lot of time for Zelda: Twilight Princess. My sister and I have both completed the game, and the time is around 60 hours.
Mostly, it is the fact that I tend to take my time (sometimes, I'd just ride around Hyrule Field for no reason) and be very thorough with console Zelda games (got all the Heart Pieces, Poe souls, bugs etc. in Twilight Princess).Yeah, there's a lot of side stuff in the game that neither of us bothered with. I remember going for 100% on Ocarina of Time didn't feel very rewarding, so I didn't want to do so for this game.
There is a way you could check if the time is accurate. On the message board, go back to the date of when you first got the game in question. Then, check every "Today's Accomplishments" letters, add up all the time logged for the game, and see if it adds up to the same number.
I'll post the full list later, but I just looked at this for the first time on Saturday. I was quite shocked to see My Life as a King was in the 50 hour range, which put it in the top four.
I don't think I had any games hit 60 hours. If I recall (I'll check later) it went something like this:
1. Twilight Princess
2. ToS: Dawn of the New World
3. FF CC: My Life as a King

You are also not a game journalist. Imagine how many games they have to go through on a yearly basis for the site. And most of them they need to play through quickly.Yeah, that's one reason why I could never be one. I have to be able to take my time to enjoy them.
I was inspired by this thread to check, and surprised at what I found:

181 hours for My Life as a King (!)
156 hours for Rune Factory Frontier
149 hour for Brawl
74 hours for Zelda, everything else less.

I want to play MK and ExciteBike some more now.I actually don't think I have played Mario Kart Wii since getting Monster Hunter Tri, I wouldn't mind playing it again sometime. Same with Animal Crossing. In fact, looking at my play history made me realize there are quite a few games I'm neglecting. Stupid Monster Hunter.
I think my ExciteBike time is about an hour. I just couldn't get into the game.Did you play/enjoy any previous Excite game?
Holy crapballs. How does one even play that many hours of Mario Kart Wii. There's not THAT much depth to the game, seriously. Wow.
Color me impressed. VERY impressed.

Maybe if you turn off your brain and not consider item trajectories (both to and from your rivals), item placements (reading your rivals' favorite routes and dropping items in key locations), reading ahead for environmental cues (for example, the tide in Peach Beach or the paths of Wigglers on Maple Treeway), strategically slowing down slightly to position yourself for a draft boost on a rival, etc, etc...
Color me impressed. VERY impressed.
Mario Kart is actually one of the deepest racers ever, and it's the fact players of every level can enjoy it that makes the game so popular and addicting.
And NOA_Reggie still owns the track. Always looking for new challengers to punt off Reggie Road. :reggie:
Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 64 are MUCH better Mario Karts. The Wii game is flawed beyond belief with its horrible item system. I should be in first place and still have the opportunity to obtain a star, lightning bolt, or red shells! But this game is designed to NEVER let you get that. Ridiculous.

What Mario Karts can you get a lightning bolt or a star in first place?
Mop_it_up, those are some monumental numbers and then some. I don't know whether to be impressed or very worried. 435 hours on Monster Hunter Tri, a game that's two months young? Yowzers.
Mop it up started playing on April 26. That gives her 83 days of play time though yesterday.Actually April 24th, it came earlier than expected. And in my defense, Thatguy tricked me into plaything through the whole game with him, so that he could write an article about it.
I should be in first place and still have the opportunity to obtain a star, lightning bolt, or red shells! But this game is designed to NEVER let you get that. Ridiculous. That would make things extremely broken. In fact, Mario Kart 64 let you get those items in second place, and it was ridiculous. Besides, you shouldn't need those items to keep first, if you have the skill. And I also don't know what you'd need a red shell in first for, there's no one ahead of you to fire it at.
In recent games, you can fire red shells backwards. :)
You are correct, sir. That they do not. But you can still fire them backwards. Then what's the point? In that instance they are functionally no different than green shells, which you can get in first.
Must be a pretty awesome game and that time sink is part of the reason I avoided it. :)It actually has a lot of issues. Honestly, the only reason I play it (and bought it) is because of so many other people here, otherwise I wouldn't bother. The community makes the experience. But yeah, if you don't have much time to game, or if you don't like to play online, then the game isn't for you.
Mop it up is the clear definition of a dedicated gamer. Wow.I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult.

I don't know. I always like the convenience of having the red shell when I happen to be in first. There have been several occasions in close races where I've hit the brakes in to let someone else pass and draw the fire of an approaching blue shell. It's even sweeter when I happen to have a red shell, and can send it their way right after they recover. You are correct, sir. That they do not. But you can still fire them backwards. Then what's the point? In that instance they are functionally no different than green shells, which you can get in first.
I find that it's a very rare occurrence where hitting the brakes is a good strategy, outside of battles of course. Hitting a player who was just hit by a blue shell is also not a good idea, besides being poor gamesmanship. The person just got unarmed by the blue shell and has no items, meaning that they are not a current threat to you as you pass them.It is rare, but it can be a good strategy when the shell is obviously coming for you anyway and you're near the goal. Even if the shell doesn't lock onto anyone else, the group around you can potentially be caught in the blast. It's worked before.
I know that it's a game involving lots of battering, but that doesn't mean there isn't still some honour in it. In my circle, people consider anything which doesn't help you pass a player to be poor sportsmanship. Hitting someone after getting blue shelled, starred, knocked off a cliff, etc. falls into this category; it doesn't help you at all, it just hurts them. You can pass them without them being a threat (and strategy-wise it's a good idea more often than not to save your items for someone who actually is a threat). It's a similar concept to launching your items backwards at the finish line; your own position is already secured, so there's no more reason to attack those behind you....except when you're playing by points, coins, or whatever. So, if you're trying to win first overall, it does technically make sense to try to keep some of your opponents with higher overall scores from placing in higher ranks.

I see what you are saying now. Just hitting them for fun as you rush by.
Felt like updating my list from over a year ago, but now with my top 15 games...

I'm still amazed that anyone could play Super Paper Mario for so long. What kinds of things keep you coming back? Do you try for low-level runs or no item runs or solo character runs or something?Nah. I just love the game. ;D
