Title: What are your most-played Wii games?
Post by: vudu on October 08, 2009, 08:28:49 PM
Thanks to the new Nintendo Channel we can now learn our most-played Wii games!

Here's my top 10.

Rank   Game TitleLength of Time Played     Number of Times Played
#1Super Smash Bros. Brawl     110 Hrs. 50 Min.63 Times
#2Mario Kart Wii74 Hrs. 7 Min.72 Times
#3Okami70 Hrs. 33 Min.41 Times
#4Twilight Princess59 Hrs. 20 Min.34 Times
#5Little King's Story54 Hrs. 6 Min.42 Times
#6Super Paper Mario51 Hrs. 32 Min.42 Times
#7Metroid Prime 338 Hrs. 29 Min.23 Times
#8Zack and Wiki33 Hrs. 15 Min.31 Times
#9Super Mario Galaxy29 Hrs. 20 Min.21 Times
#10No More Heroes21 Hrs. 2 Min.15 Times

Nothing too surprising in my list, but how the HELL did I spend so much time on Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes?  I must have paused those games and walked away for several hours (thereby artificially increasing the play time).

This exercise has reminded me that I need to go back and play Mario Galaxy again, because it's a crime that Super Paper Mario has more play time than Mario Galaxy.

What's your top 10 look like?  In order to find out, click the 'Records' button in the lower right corner of the main page on the Nintendo Channel and then click on 'Game-Play Records'.

Just for fun, let's take a look at my top 5 VC games.

Rank   Game TitleLength of Time Played     Number of Times Played
#1Super Mario RPG20 Hrs. 32 Min.15 Times
#2Super Castlevania IV9 Hrs. 16 Min.13 Times
#3Star Fox 648 Hrs. 49 Min.6 Times
#4Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts     8 Hrs. 44 Min.34 Times
#5The Legend of Zelda7 Hrs. 49 Min.3 Times

In order to get a nice, neat table like me, you might want to quote my post and then edit in your info.

Note:  This thread is inspired by Steven Totilo's article at Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5377313/show-us-your-wii-history).

I wouldn't take anything in the Wii history system at face value. From what I seen peeking at my logs from day to day that it's really buggy.

Awesome!  I love this.  Here's how hardcore my gaming on the Wii has been.

1)  Wii Fit                                                      409 Hrs. 28 Min.   470 Times
2)  Animal Crossing City Folk                             379 Hrs.   3 Min.   320 Times
3)  Internet Channel                                       360 Hrs.   8 Min.   367 Times
4)  The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess          78 Hrs. 30 Min.     31 Times
5)  Metroid Prime 3: Corruption                          50 Hrs.  25 Min.     16 Times
6)  Rune Factory: Frontier                                 39 Hrs.  11 Min.    11 Times
7)  Super Smash Bros. Brawl                              37 Hrs.  16 Min.    15 Times
8)  Rock Band 2                                               33 Hrs.   5 Min.      23 Times
9)  Mario Kart Wii                                              30 Hrs.   2 Min.      17 Times
10) Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World  27 Hrs.  22 Min.  10 Times

No real surprise with Wii Fit and Animal Crossing - though that's mostly my wife playing those.  The times played seem mighty low for some of the other games though.  I mean, really, I only urned on Smash Bros. 15 times?  Maybe in the first week I had it.. I suspect that there's some data that didn't get polled.

Still: Some interesting stats.

Does the 158 games listed at the top represent 158 games played on my Wii or 158 games that they sample data on?  Since I haven't sold back a single Wii game to date and have only rented maybe 10 or 20 that means I own a lot more Wii games than I thought!  (VC games included, but still...)

How did you manage to put 360 hours into the Internet Channel?  Don't you have a computer!?

These numbers are not validated by teh N-P-D and are therefore inconclusive.

I'll have to go check you get you the numbers, but I can already tell you what my top three are:

1. Mario Kart Wii
There is no way I've played any other Wii game as much as this one. I don't think I've gone a week without playing it ever since I bought it.
2. Animal Crossing
I was a "late adapter" to this game you could say but I've really gotten into it. A friend that I don't really talk to much anymore bought this game, and it has brought us closer together even though she's all the way across town and still can't visit in person very often.
3. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
I don't like this game and the only reason I've played it so much is because it was one of the few games I had for a couple of months. That and I hate to leave games unfinished. This game is pretty easy to beat even on the hardest difficulty setting, all it takes is time to complete it.

I spent about six months last year with no computer.  (Broke the monitor on my hand-me-down laptop and it took me a while to get a replacement.)  And, no, hardly any pr0n.  It just doesn't feel the same on a Wii...

HOLY COW

Are those times accurate?  172 hours with Super Paper Mario?!  Did you beat it like 4 times?
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?
Post by: ThomasO on October 09, 2009, 03:36:03 PM
More like 5 times.  ;D

Too bad the GCN couldn't easily log any of this, I wanted to see how much I've played Luigi's Mansion, when I played through it 30+ times, and PMTTYD, at 6 times.

I completed LoZTP three times, and got 121 stars with both Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Galaxy twice. I am in my third playthrough, at 103 stars with Mario. However, I have also played up to 60 stars in another file with my mother in Co-Star mode.

Everyone in my family plays Wii Sports and Wii Fit, but I make up the bulk of that time.

I also never realized that I played Wii Music or Animal Crossing that long.

My least played game is Link's Crossbow Training, at 2 minutes, 1 time.

This chart wouldn't include the countless hours I've spent playing with friends on THEIR Wii.

The results are already skewed.
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?
Post by: broodwars on October 09, 2009, 05:03:49 PM
Alright, just a disclaimer here: these numbers are extremely skewed.  My Wii has spent probably around a year with my best friend, who played a lot of Fire Emblem; Smash Bros. Brawl; Tales of Symphonia 2; and Metroid Prime 3.  That said, I am a little surprised at some of the games on this list (especially since I never beat 2 of them):

1.  Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn -      146 Hrs. 29 Min. -      83 Times.
2.  Super Smash Bros. Brawl -      129 Hrs. 6 Min. -      49 Times.
3.  Okami -      79 Hrs. 54 Min. -      11 Times.
4.  Metroid Prime: Trilogy -      76 Hrs. 50 Min. -      10 Times.
5.  Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World -      61 Hrs. 37 Min. -      21 Times.
6.  Metroid Prime 3: Corruption -      58 Hrs. 4 min. -      25 Times.
7.  Opoona -      44 Hrs. 15 Min. -      5 Times.
8.  Super Mario Galaxy -      41 Hrs. 2 Min. -      12 Times.
9.  Zack & Wiki -      38 Hrs. 40 Min. -      15 Times.
10.  The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -      38 Hrs. 22 Min. -      9 Times.

Wow, how'd all that time rack up on Opoona of all games?  I never even beat that one, and I probably played Symphonia 2 for a grand total of 10 hours.  Interesting that 3 games that I hated (Okami, Opoona, and Tales of Symphonia 2) all ended up on my Top 10 Most Played list.

The record-tracking of the Nintendo Channel is definitely not 100% accurate. It shows that I have played Little King's Story for 9 hours, which I KNOW is false because my file has 20 hours on it. I don't know what might cause the channel to miss data, but it certainly does.

Anyways, my top ten, which should come as no surprise to those who know my taste in games:

Rank   Game TitleLength of Time Played     Number of Times Played
#1Mario Kart Wii 774 Hrs. 16 Min.369 Times
#2Animal Crossing City Folk302 Hrs. 26 Min.142 Times
#3Super Smash Brothers Brawl230 Hrs. 28 Min.136 Times
#4Internet Channel172 Hrs. 45 Min.154 Times
#5Mario Super Sluggers131 Hrs. 54 Min.61 Times
#6Mario Party 857 Hrs. 39 Min.24 Times
#7Super Paper Mario40 Hrs. 38 Min.20 Times
#8Wii Sports39 Hrs. 35 Min.41 Times
#9Super Mario Galaxy38 Hrs. 12 Min.26 Times
#10Wii Play25 Hrs. 22 Min.26 Times

Like Tanatoes, I went through a period without a working computer, and that's why I got the Internet Channel. I rarely use it now, only for the occasional YouTube browsing.

Well my Number 1 on my list isn't a game and I have used it since June 2007.

#1 Internet Channel.
7,002 hrs 45 mins 812 times.
I know I use the channel alot but this is wild.I'm using it now.

# 2 Zelda TP 245 hrs 56 mins 41 times.
Some of this was when some friends played. Not much though.

#3 Brawl 239 hrs 8 mins.188 times. This is probably the game that I always go back to.

#4 AC:CF 132 hrs 27 mins 99 times.Don't play it as much as when I got it.

#5 MP3:Corruption 112 hrs 59 mins. 36 times. Still need to beat on Hyper Mode.

#6 Mortal Kombat Armageddon 104 hours 8 min. 31 times.Played lots of the Story mode. Finding all of the secrets.
#7 Tales of Symphonia:Dawn of the New World. 61 hrs 25 mins 15 times. Need to get back to this again. Beat it already.

#8 Super Mario Galaxy 54 hours 12 mins. 36 times. Still need to get all of the stars for Mario.I think i have 1 or 2 left.

#9 Mario Kart Wii 50 hrs 58 times. Still have a few things to unlock.

#10 Resident Evil:The Umbrella Chronicles. 46 hrs 14 times.
Need to S rank lots of things.

......

I find it odd that since coming here I have played less time than when I wasn't a member. Odd.

#9The Conduit14 Hrs. 39 Min.7 Times
#10Wii Sports13 Hrs. 15 Min.19 Times

I don't really consider The Conduit to be on this list because it's going to be traded in, but Zack and Wiki QfBT would be on my list at #10 with 10h22m with 7 times played.

Hey, I do play VC games.
Rank   Game TitleLength of Time Played     Number of Times Played
#1Mega Man 924 Hrs. 42 Min.8 Times

#3Super Metroid14 Hrs. 24 Min.3 Times
#4Super Mario World11 Hrs. 29 Min.8 Times
#5Super Mario 6411 Hrs. 29 Min.8 Times

Of special note, Super Mario Bros. 8h8m with 13 times played. For such a short game I think that says how much I love the game.

All of the time, the only time I return to the menu is when I switch games. I looked at the play history for all days since getting Little King's Story, and the time adds up to about 21 hours. It is being recorded but for some reason the Nintendo Channel isn't registering it.

#1 Internet Channel.

7,000 hours? That is pretty crazy. I have no idea how you could spend so much time using the Internet Channel, especially if you don't have a USB keyboard.

I see a lot of commonality amongst everyone's lists. I'll bet I'm the only one to have Wii Play on their top ten... or at least the only one proud of it!

I do it all of the time with every game and Little King's Story is the only game which seems inaccurate. Since it is still being recorded into the system memory then I doubt that would affect the Nintendo's Channel ability to compile all of the data. It's at least as equal a possibility as the same game being played on the same day not counting, or perhaps the game wasn't programmed correctly. Who knows.

So here's a question. Are the records on the Nintendo Channel updated each time you access the channel or periodically?

The reason I ask is that I don't think it is working right for me. Upon further inspection Little King's Story isn't the only game which isn't accurate. I decided to test it; I played a game for a bit, then exited back to the menu with the Home button and loaded up the Nintendo channel. Every game I played wasn't added to the total. One of the games isn't even on the list at all.

I'm just worried that if my system isn't working as it should then it could lead to a more severe problem.
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?

When you connect to the Nintendo Channel it says "sending data".  I assume that's when it tells Nintendo what you're playing.

Also, upon further inspection of my complete list, I realized that Secret of Mana isn't listed at all, even though I probably sank 15 to 20 hours into it.  Odd.

It's discrimination I tells ya. I say we assemble a million gamer march outside the Nintendo headquartes in San Francisco in protest of such a dispicable act.

But not today, because it's the first rain we've have in a long time, the weather sucks, and all the roads are backed up leading in that general direction right now.

Does anyone care to test if the data is updated instantly on their system?
Here's how you can do that: first load up the Nintendo Channel and check the time for the game you're about to play, and then go and play the game for however long you want. When you are finished, go back to the Nintendo Channel and check the time again for that game.

i bet it updates everytime you power down your console. It'd make more sense to do it all at once then continuously.

I've got 541 hours in Brawl, everything else is below 12 hours. But I got a new Wii when I moved out of my parents house. So brawl should be around 1,000 hours. With Galaxy at maybe around 30 or something and TP a little bit behind. Gotta check my old wii records.

I don't think that's true. I've been checking it over the past few days now and none of the games I've played have increased in time.

Hm, actually, I wonder if it stopped counting after I got the 4.2 update? I never checked the Nintendo Channel before I got that update, so I don't know...

Well this thread convinced me to come out of retirement, and even turn on my Wii! The data seems to be incorrect though about the # of times started (maybe because I never go back to the menu), and I notice Resident Evil 4, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Godzilla Unleashed are all missing... games that I have sunk a considerable amount of time into.

AFAIK the channel doesn't know about all games, only the ones registered in it. I've had some games I couldn't give feedback on either. Check if you can find the game with a search in the games list.

I see. And I assume there is no way for a peon like me to register something like, oh say, Godzilla Unleashed on there? Bullocks...

I'm surprised Resident Evil 4 didn't show up though.

I decided to test this today.  Both yesterday and today I played Shining Force II for about an hour and a half each.  I logged into the Nintendo Channel this morning and the game still isn't showing up.  I'll check again later and see if it shows up.
I've been testing this all week. Sometimes the game I just played gets added into the total, and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't follow any sort of formula, it seems totally random. But it is good to know the problem exists for everyone because that means there isn't anything wrong with my system.

AFAIK the channel doesn't know about all games, only the ones registered in it. I've had some games I couldn't give feedback on either. Check if you can find the game with a search in the games list.
I didn't know the database wasn't complete. I'll check to see if Groovin' Blocks is listed because that's the one which hasn't shown up for me.

I know all DS Game Cartridges are registered on the channel.  I tried to rate the official DS Download Stations and would just get an error message. :(

Yeah, I'm surprised more people don't have it on theirs. It's a very fun multiplayer game. Although I haven't gotten any Mario Partys prior to this since the first on the N64, so perhaps the franchise is still fresh to me compared to others.

I got the new Nintendo Channel just now. Pretty snazzy. I'm not too surprised by my results.

Top 11
1)Animal Crossing 104h 10m 52x
2)Conduit 65h 50m 19x
3)Fire Emblem 62h 51m 21x
4)Okami 56h 49m 13x
5)Brawl 55h 11m 39x
6)Harvest Moon (SNES) 48h 4m 23x
7)Guitar Hero WT 44h 32m 27x
8)The Godfather 43h 56m 13x
9)Mario Kart Wii 43h 18m 32x
10)Guitar Hero 3 38h 13m 32x
11)Rock Band 2 34h 12m 34x

Bottom 10
69)Wii Speak Channel 3m 1x
68)Super Empire Strikes Back 7m 1x
67)NyxQuest 9m 1x
66)Everybody Votes Channel 11m 4x
65)SMB: Lost Levels 15m 6x
64)Check Mii Out Channel 19m 2x
63)Forecast Channel 19m 17x
62)DKC3 20m 2x
61)Endless Ocean 24m 1x
60)Sin & Punnishment 25m 5x

I think a lot of VC games will start to move up the list now that I have a classic controller since games like S&P and DCK3 are virtually unplayable with the Gamecube controller.

Seeing AC up at the top of the list makes me want to play it more.

I've basically given my Wii to my mom, but if I were to go over there and look at the time, I'm sure it would look like this:

Wii Sports - 600hrs
WiiFit - 300hrs
Grand Slam Tennis - 120hrs
Wii Sports Resort - 55hrs
SMG - 20hrs
TLoZ:TP - 15
Z&W - 13
HotD:O - 6hrs
.....
.....
.....
Wii Channel Screen (Home Screen)- 5hrs
Game Channel Screen (Start Game Screen) - 1hr 15min
MadWorld - 1hr
Controller set-up/reconnect screen - 52min

Damn I was kinda far off at the top, but not that far off on the bottom.
I finally went back to my moms house (where my Wii is) and checked the play times.

You thought I was kidding when I said my mom loved that game?
I set the record in Shooting gallery (~751 or something like that), and she spent the next 2 years trying to beat it. She would have gotten more out of Wii Fit too if we didn't push the boundaries on that game pretty quickly. I wish there was a way to reset teh scoreboard on the game without erasing your personal high score.

No, but 2,000 hours is pretty crazy. I love Mario Kart Wii and I haven't logged in half of that. Even with my favourite game (Super Smash Brothers Melee) I now have just over 2,000 hours and it's eight years later.

I was my little sister's game and I tried it once for fun. I then ran out of room on my Wii and deleted the save to fit more stuff on there. It's not like I hated it or anything.  :P

It's not like I hate MP. I still enjoy the games when I play them, but I prefer Dokapon to MP when given a choice. Dokapon is what I play with my gamer/D&D/nerd friends and MP is what I play with family and more non-traditional players.

The most shocking thing for me on my stats was that I have played 69 different games on my Wii. I guess all of those WW/VC games added up.

We need a Mario Party 9 with online so that I can play it with you. Sometimes you need to have the right people to show you that Mario Party is still the best party game.

If MP9 does have online, I will get it. If it doesn't then I will just buy it for my sister and play it with her.

I only buy about one MP game per generation. I got the first one on N64, the 4th one on GC and am holding out for an online one on Wii.

The DS one was pretty fun, I like to play that with my sister since she has it and it supports single-card multiplayer. I'm wondering why they haven't made a second DS MP. Maybe for DSi specifically?

I noticed a few things recently so I thought I'd post them here:

1. If you play the same game more than once during one day, it will likely be recorded as just 1 time played.
2. Any play time accumulated when the Wii is not set to the correct date and time will not be added to the total.
3. The WiiWare demos are not recorded by the channel.
4. The Mario Kart Channel time is combined with the game itself.

I can't really argue with you on that one.

Number 1 I just happened to notice with New Super Mario Brothers Wii. It said that I had played it two times, but I had actually played five. However, it was three on one day and two on the next day. The total time still added up correctly.

Number 2 I noticed when I set my clock back to play Animal Crossing without missing a day. Thinking back, I believe I did this some back when games like Little King's Story and Excite Truck weren't always getting added to the time.

Number 3 I was curious about after playing a couple of demos, because I didn't think they'd show up in the Today's Accomplishments letter. They are there as "[game title] demo" but don't appear in the Nintendo Channel as anything. I guess it is possible the time might be combined with the full game if you bought it, but I can't test that.

Number 4 I've always known but forgot to post it sooner.

Rune Factory Frontier is undeniably the game I've spent the most time on, which is over 150 hours last time I checked. I haven't played it in months and haven't beat it... I just got bored of the endless daily chores in it...

You can "beat" Rune Factory Frontier? I thought the game was endless.

1)MH Tri 162h 38m 42t
 2)AC CF 158h 58m 78t
In two short months, you've already played Monster Hunter Tri more than Animal Crossing, which you've had for over a year? Now that's just sad. Even worse, I'm pretty sure my own records are the same by now, I'll have to check them. Although, to be fair, I've played Animal Crossing a lot when my Wii clock wasn't set correctly, and this means that play time wasn't recorded. So there's no way to tell how long I've actually played it.

Remember when I was time warping as well and screwed up both my Wii and AC clocks? It was like my town was in a time-warp. Kinda like Groundhogs Day, Sliders, Butterfly Effect and those DuckTales time machine episodes all rolled into a collective cacophany of chaos. I even lost track of the time and date it was in real life at one point because of the mess. (not really but it did cause me to not go to sleep properly, plus it sounder cooler to say it that way ;) )

I'm sure that my AC time has been stunted as well due to it. I think some other games I played at the time were also thrown off because of it.

AC was more of a bit here and a bit there. Look at the number of times/days I played it: 78. Versus Tri which has just under half the times/days AC has. Tri's average play time was 3.86 hours. AC's was only at 2 hours. I think part of it was the non-linear nature of AC as Tri forces you to play in 50-60 minute increments at the least. If I want to play 3 quests that is easily 3+ hours in a single sitting. AC I can hop on and play a bit each day or night.

RFF Is one that could have easily been a big time sink but I think the original sucked most of my HM energy before RFF could come on the scene and also the difficulty of dividing up time between too many games. I'm sure I will go back to it and sink plenty of time into it.

Looked at my list for the first time in a long while. Here's my 10 most played games, apparently:

1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- 228 hours 31 mins -- 99 times
2. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -- 120 hours 18 mins -- 48 times
3. Mario Kart Wii -- 98 hours 43 mins -- 59 times
4. Super Mario Galaxy -- 88 hours 42 mins -- 50 times
5. Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City -- 78 hours 38 mins -- 28 times
6. Okami -- 50 hours 57 mins -- 13 times
7. Wario Land: The Shake Dimension -- 49 hours 38 mins -- 22 times
8. Swords & Soldiers -- 46 hours 12 mins -- 28 times
9. Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure -- 43 hours 15 mins -- 28 times
10. Sam and Max: Season One -- 37 hours 38 mins -- 18 times

Results are mostly what I expected, although there are a couple that are higher than my estimates. In fact, games 7-10 all have more hours invested than I would have thought. I've heard many people comment on how inaccurate the Nintendo Channel can be, but while I can think of circumstances that might prevent it from logging time, I can't see how it could log too much time. Perhaps I really did spend all those hours on these games without realising how the time was flying by.

Completed 100%, plus a fair bit of multiplayer. In spite of that, I'm not convinced I've played it for that long. Maybe 30 to 35 hours, but 46? Unless someone else played it without me knowing, though I have my doubts about that.

There are also a few games on my list which have more time than I thought. I checked the play history on the Wii Message Board and added it all up, and it was indeed correct. Unless the system itself has a problem with logging the correct amount of time...

Also, that's a lot of time for Zelda: Twilight Princess. My sister and I have both completed the game, and the time is around 60 hours.

I'll post the full list later, but I just looked at this for the first time on Saturday. I was quite shocked to see My Life as a King was in the 50 hour range, which put it in the top four.

I don't think I had any games hit 60 hours. If I recall (I'll check later) it went something like this:

1. Twilight Princess
2. ToS: Dawn of the New World
3. FF CC: My Life as a King
4. ...
52.  Six Flags Fun Park

Some of that is because the batteries in my Wii Remote ran out in the middle of the Zant boss fight and I had no others at hand, so I left the game on overnight while the batteries charged and then forgot the Wii was still on until the following evening. Mostly, it is the fact that I tend to take my time (sometimes, I'd just ride around Hyrule Field for no reason) and be very thorough with console Zelda games (got all the Heart Pieces, Poe souls, bugs etc. in Twilight Princess).

It would help if all these games had their own self-contained time logs. With Zelda: TP or Okami, I can verify what the Nintendo Channel says. With the majority of others, it's easy to be dubious. For example, I don't believe that I played Wario Land for 49 hours - I'd have guessed about 25 at the most - but I have no way to check.
Ah well, doesn't really matter.

Just looked at this for the first time in a while. Brawl is by far my #1 at 105 hours. Kart is a distant second at 56. Twilight Princess is next at 44.

The one that amazed me the most is My Life as a King.  Played it 31 times for a total of 30 hours. That's damn impressive for a WiiWare game.

Or The Nintendo Genius. I burn through games, I don't have time to stop and smell the roses.

Pale, glad to see I'm not the only one with a stupidly large number of hours in My Life is a King...but I think mine is 50 hours...in 18 plays.

Would you if the roses were in HD and came with a smell-o-rama adapter that plugged into the Wii Remote? Huh huh? :P

I just added another 3 hours to my Boom Blox time last week.  Friends love that game for some reason..

Yeah, there's a lot of side stuff in the game that neither of us bothered with. I remember going for 100% on Ocarina of Time didn't feel very rewarding, so I didn't want to do so for this game.

There is a way you could check if the time is accurate. On the message board, go back to the date of when you first got the game in question. Then, check every "Today's Accomplishments" letters, add up all the time logged for the game, and see if it adds up to the same number.

But if the Nintendo Channel uses those numbers to track your stats then won't those individual numbers be off as well?
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?
Post by: Mop it up on July 12, 2010, 09:29:13 PM
Not necessarily. That's one thing I want to find out.

The Nintendo Channel must use more values than simply adding up the play history messages on the message board, as games played when the Wii was not set to the correct date and time won't be logged. For example, my playtime for Excite Truck adds up to around 15 hours according to my messages, but the Nintendo Channel shows it at only 1 hour, 20 minutes. I've no idea if this was intentional or not.

So, if it can skip over time, I wonder if it's possible, through maybe a bug, that it could sometimes count a day's log twice.

I wasn't even freakin' close!

1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes51 Hrs. 14 Min.15 Times
2. Rune Factory: Frontier42 Hrs 22 Min18 Times
3. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World40 Hrs. 3 Min.11 Times
4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl32 Hrs. 2 Min.18 Times
5. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King30 Hrs. 40 Min.14 Times
6. Bully: Scholarship Edition29 Hrs. 22 Min.13 Times
7. Little King's Story26 Hrs. 22 Min.13 Times
8. Trauma Team25 Hrs. 11 Min.8 Times
9. Super Mario Galaxy 224 Hrs. 55 Min.7 Times
10. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption24 Hrs. 26 Min.8 Times

It's not that bad. For what number of days did you play the game?

I had 7 days off work, and by the time I came back to work I had finished Mass Effect 2 within 50 hours for maybe a period of 6 days at most. I did the same thing with Twilight Princess.

My Life as a King is also pretty high on mine. It is a very huge time sink. But it really got to feel dissatisfying near the end. I didn't actually beat it because my characters stopped being able to make any progress and I ran out of the ability to build more structures.

It means you have to grind them. Where I got into problems is my best three people, all of them forces of nature in their own right, would reject the high level jobs I put out there and would instead take the easy stuff I listed for my green troops.

That's nothing to worry about. In fact, I'm surprised you've only got one game above 50 hours; from everything that's been said on RFN, I always had you pegged as someone who played games too much.

Makes me wonder what Jon's play records must look like.  ;)

For site business (although I'm not a review hound by any means) you do play games differently. I wrote a blog post about it in 2008.

I just have the ability to lock in on a game and go.

I am somewhat driven to complete games quickly and move on to the next because of RFN and New Business. Ideally I'll have a new title every week (last week it was Endless Ocean Blue World and some Sin and Punishment, this week it is Megaman ZX), and for me that means marathon sessions and bargain hunts.

I plan on taking full advantage of the rumored buy 2 get 1 free used game sale at GameStop this weekend. Three weeks of content for the price of two.

That probably accounts for about four or five hours, but mostly it's just me playing it a ton.  I like management games; Sim City stole hundreds of hours of my life, and Civ IV in particular has seen over a thousand hours of playtime.

That  number is totally believable for Rune Factory. That game is  slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Too true: I never even got married in the game, although I beat the main quest.  And whoever thought that having flowers take an entire year of 20-minute days needs to be fired.

How come I almost never see you online in Tri then?

Bar exam's at the end of this month; I'll be free to play much more after that, although I'll be splitting my time with Dragon Age as well.  But I'll gladly start showing up on Tuesdays again, at the least.

Not much depth?  Really?  Maybe if you turn off your brain and not consider item trajectories (both to and from your rivals), item placements (reading your rivals' favorite routes and dropping items in key locations), reading ahead for environmental cues (for example, the tide in Peach Beach or the paths of Wigglers on Maple Treeway), strategically slowing down slightly to position yourself for a draft boost on a rival, etc, etc...

Mario Kart is actually one of the deepest racers ever, and it's the fact players of every level can enjoy it that makes the game so popular and addicting.

And NOA_Reggie still owns the track.  Always looking for new challengers to punt off Reggie Road.  :reggie:

Somewhat.  I put maybe 10 hours into ExciteBots.  I enjoyed it well enough but didn't feel the need to play it to completion.  I've only played the NES original for a few minutes at a time.  Never tried the N64 version.

Hey, don't bring me down with your tirade using your own insecurities, man. :P:

Maybe it's just the people I play the game with.  Race, use a red shell, hope to dodge a forthcoming blue shell out of nowhere, crash, lose a few spots, race back up to get where you were originally, start a new lap, rinse, and repeat.

Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 64 are MUCH better Mario Karts. The Wii game is flawed beyond belief with its horrible item system. I should be in first place and still have the opportunity to obtain a star, lightning bolt, or red shells! But this game is designed to NEVER let you get that.  Ridiculous.

Mario Kart 64 is flawed beyond belief with its horrible rubber banding.  At least item induced rubber banding is something the player can understand.

Super Mario Kart is the best Mario Kart. :)

If I had to rank Karts, I'd probably go...

Super Mario Kart (Great because it's pure)
Mario Kart Super Circuit (Great because it's closest to the above)
Mario Kart Wii (Bikes are a great addition. Has best multiplayer of all of them)
Mario Kart Double Dash (Just a good game)
Mario Kart DS (Flawed because of snaking)
Mario Kart 64 (Terribly flawed because of rubber-banding)

I believe in Super Mario Kart you can get any item you want as long as your button timing is just right as the item spinner goes around.  It's not "rubber-banded" like in Mario Kart Wii.

435 hours / 24 hours = 18.13 days of play time

Actually April 24th, it came earlier than expected. And in my defense, Thatguy tricked me into plaything through the whole game with him, so that he could write an article about it.

And yeah, I've never needed as much sleep as the average person. There have been times when I've slept only on my days off (and boy did I!). I expect this to change when I get older, but for now, I'm young and living it up.

I should be in first place and still have the opportunity to obtain a star, lightning bolt, or red shells! But this game is designed to NEVER let you get that.  Ridiculous.
That would make things extremely broken. In fact, Mario Kart 64 let you get those items in second place, and it was ridiculous.  Besides, you shouldn't need those items to keep first, if you have the skill. And I also don't know what you'd need a red shell in first for, there's no one ahead of you to fire it at.

It actually has a lot of issues. Honestly, the only reason I play it (and bought it) is because of so many other people here, otherwise I wouldn't bother. The community makes the experience. But yeah, if you don't have much time to game, or if you don't like to play online, then the game isn't for you.

Mop it up is the clear definition of a dedicated gamer. Wow.
I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult.

Compliment.

Out of curiosity, I checked to see if my time in Mario Kart Wii has surpassed my time in Super Smash Brothers Melee or Perfect Dark. These are my two favourite games from their respective systems. It's been a long time since last I played them both, so I wondered if it had. And wow, for SSBMelee, it isn't even close.

I miss those late night sessions of Melee and Perfect Dark back in the day. Things just aren't the same now as a real adult with responsibilities. :P

I'll have to check my times on those games as well.

You are correct, sir. That they do not.  But you can still fire them backwards.
Then what's the point? In that instance they are functionally no different than green shells, which you can get in first.
I don't know.  I always like the convenience of having the red shell when I happen to be in first.  There have been several occasions in close races where I've hit the brakes in to let someone else pass and draw the fire of an approaching blue shell.  It's even sweeter when I happen to have a red shell, and can send it their way right after they recover.

That is what I like to do too Sun. I always try and keep a red shell with me in case a CPU opponent gets ahead, and if I see a blue shell fired I will try and slow down so that another player can get ahead of me before the blue shell gets to the front.

I find that it's a very rare occurrence where hitting the brakes is a good strategy, outside of battles of course. Hitting a player who was just hit by a blue shell is also not a good idea, besides being poor gamesmanship. The person just got unarmed by the blue shell and has no items, meaning that they are not a current threat to you as you pass them. Plus, you're likely to tick off this person, and they'll try to get revenge on you, either in the same race or a subsequent one. Furthermore, by firing the shell you've just thrown away your own protection from an attack by third place. Lastly, if you're going to try holding on to an item with which to get into first place, a mushroom is a much better choice than a red shell.

If you can't get a sizable enough lead over the CPU players that a blue shell won't cost you any positions, you don't want to play any of the people on my friend list...

It is rare, but it can be a good strategy when the shell is obviously coming for you anyway and you're near the goal.  Even if the shell doesn't lock onto anyone else, the group around you can potentially be caught in the blast.  It's worked before.

As far as the red shell thing, goes, that's also typically done when there's little inherent advantage in keeping it...especially if I want to use another item that's waiting in the wings.

I'm not sure that I'd qualify hitting them with a red shell when they're already stopped qualifies as poor gamesmanship.  After all, you're playing a game where  people traditionally whack each other with every weapon possible, trip each other up with banana peels, hit players to pass off a lightning bolt, knock each other into lava pits, or otherwise try to impede each other's progress.  Since I tend to play as Koopa or Toad, I routinely get rammed by the heavier players if I happen to slip up.   My temper might occasionally flare up, but I just accept it as part of the game.

It depends upon whom you're playing with, I suppose; one friend of mine and I have tended to play as viciously as possible with one another ever since the Mario Kart 64.  I loved the things that you could do with the lightning bolt in that game.

That would be the only time where braking can be beneficial. Though be careful not to break too hard or people might pass you. It's probably better to just let off the gas.

I know that it's a game involving lots of battering, but that doesn't mean there isn't still some honour in it. In my circle, people consider anything which doesn't help you pass a player to be poor sportsmanship. Hitting someone after getting blue shelled, starred, knocked off a cliff, etc. falls into this category; it doesn't help you at all, it just hurts them. You can pass them without them being a threat (and strategy-wise it's a good idea more often than not to save your items for someone who actually is a threat). It's a similar concept to launching your items backwards at the finish line; your own position is already secured, so there's no more reason to attack those behind you.

I know how Mario Kart goes though, and I'm not saying I ever expect courtesy or complain if I don't see it. But even in Mario Kart, there can be good sportsmanship.

...except when you're playing by points, coins, or whatever.  So, if you're trying to win first overall, it does technically make sense to try to keep some of your opponents with higher overall scores from placing in higher ranks.

I understand that different groups have different rules of engagement, though.

True, if you're playing local multiplayer I can see why you'd want to do that. Online, it isn't a GP, each race just has an individual outcome so there's no benefit. These aren't rules though, no one is asked to follow them, it's a show of sportsmanship, so it can apply to online and offline game.

This is so much fun to do though. Once I get to the finish line I will throw back any item I still have (although it will rarely ever hit since you would have to be stupid to get hit by a random item thrown back like that).

If you're in a wheelie then it can be difficult to jump out of it and clear a shell or other item. Plus, online, there could be some lag that delays the firing of the shell, causing it to appear in your face.
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?

It makes perfect sense to hit someone with a red shell right after they get hit by a blue shell. It stops them yet again and gives you a chance to catch up to them and pass them. It is especially critical if they are inches away from the finish line. That extra delay could mean victory for you.
Title: Re: What are your most-played Wii games?

In that instance, it's a necessary act to pass them, which is a different story.

That's exactly what I do!  The keyword is FUN.  Hitting someone when they're down is just about the best fun you can have in a multiplayer game (especially local).

It's the same reason I used to drop proximity mines by spawn points in GoldenEye.  ;D

I am utterly shocked at my Netflix times. A little embarrassed too. Then again, considering watching Bones, Dexter and other shows is what my gf and I primarily do together it's a little understandable but still. Makes me better appreciate that she decided to make TV the thing she gave up for Lent (and conned me into doing it too...)

Other than Netflix, Black Ops is the only other game to have come up the charts in a while. Probably because it is one of the only games I've played recently on the Wii. Everything else is pretty stagnant. I'm trying to play through a lot of my older games that I've never beaten or have not even touched yet but I question of any of them will rival this list.

It will be interesting to compare these play times to the ones that the 3DS records. I might make a list of my top VC and WiiWare games later.

Am I allowed to say "Mop it up, that's simply too much"?
No, I guess not. It certainly seems that you have taken to some of these online games, with both Call of Duty titles above 100. Those are scary numbers though - how do you even have the time?
I assume some of these are due to repeat playthroughs. I finished Little King's Story in 25 hours, but that was just once, and I didn't find many of the hidden paintings.

Well, that is over a few years you know... Still, I have a type of insomnia, so I usually get only a couple hours of sleep each night. There isn't much to do in the middle of the night, so I play games. I'm not a television fan, and pretty much every show on that late is garbage anyhow.

There are certainly people on this forum who game more than I do, though. Broodwars comes to mind, and the RFN crew seem to get around too.

I don't know how they get it all in.  I'm having a hard enough time getting through all the courses in Excitebot and it honestly doesn't take long to get to gold.
