Title: New Gold coins with different US Presidents on it.
Post by: AV on September 30, 2009, 10:27:27 PM
So today at work a customer gave me a gold coin. It had a picture of " Martin Van Buren"

 ??? ??? ??? :o :o :o

I looked at it, and looked at the reverse and had a picture of Statue of Liberty and $1 on it.

So I accepted it. I gave it to another customer later that day, but I was totally unaware that new gold colored dollar coins were in circulation.

I looked it up and found this:

http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/

So basically they printing old coins for every US President in order.
Including the Presidents who already are on coins.

They even changed the model for Presidents who already have a coin

look at Andrew Jackson

he has a superman curl !!  ;D ;D :D

So sometime soon President Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Carter will be able to see themselves in a coin. That's pretty cool to be alive to see yourself in a coin.

just fyi

I remember reading back when the coins stated to circulate that living president are not going to have a coin of themselves due to political hatred might cause them to be heavily defiled....

I definitely want a Van Buren coin.  Coolest U.S. President's name ever.

Gold (colored) dollar coins have been around for like 10 years (presidential dollar coins since 2007, apparently). Go buy stamps from a vending machine, that's what you'll get in change. It sucks. You'll get these stupid coins in return - but guess what, you can't use them on any vending machines (I don't think the stamp machines even accept them, or at least didn't a few years ago).

Actually, there are vending machines that accept the golden coins.  Typically they're marked.  Be careful, a silver dollar and a golden dollar aren't the same thing!

The cashier at the coffee shop across from where I work gave me a Susan B. Anthony dollar this weekend.  I'm not sure what to think about that.  Mostly because she was about to give me normal change but then pulled it back and gave me the dollar coin and five dimes.

This is a great idea. I hope to gather them all. I once at the Gumption to try to collect the state Quarters but maybe I will do the time. Does anyone know where I can get one of those fantasy books to keep the casinos?

What's the point of a dollar coin? Seems almost as useless as a $2 bill.

We have £1 coins. And £2 coins. No notes that low tho.

I have a one dollar coin here. I took it back because nobody has ever seen one.

When I lived in Portland, the light-raill train (called the MAX) accepted and spat out gold dollar coins. It eliminates the need to have your machines return paper money because they just give the change all in coins. Not sure if that is a benefit or not, but at least you don't have to flatten out gold coins like you do mangled $1 and $5 bills for vending machines.

While it costs more to produce a dollar coin over a dollar bill, they (obviously) last a lot longer in circulation - so it's cheaper for the government and better for the environment.  Now, if only normal people could be convinced to use dollar coins on a regular basis.

But $1 coins are so heavy. what if I was going somewhere like the club and wanted to carry about $100 in cash on me? I'd never make it in the door. My pants would be at my ankles and I would walk like a penguin..... Actually, now that I think about it, I would probably just blend in with a specific crowd of people (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=27928.msg554473#msg554473) dressed like that.

How are you supposed to put one of this dollar coins in a stripper's g-string? You're not allowed to use the built-in coin slot.

I thought that was the credit card swipe.

It is made for both (and other things), but you're not allowed to use it, unless you're in the shittiest and trashiest of strip clubs.

I've been to a couple and there are coin machines for pool and what not. I'm usually too busy to play....you know, because of the titties in my hand.

Reminds me of the pool hall/strip joint my friend and i thought of creating once. Woulda been epic.
