Is it that there have been more celebrity deaths than usual or that I have just been paying more attention lately?
Best of Patrick Swayze (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1rVBe1NCh8)

Maybe it's just more relevant celebs. Nonetheless, he will be missed.

Yes. More than normal. I'm sure its somehow related to the gravitational impending doom of 2012.

I just link it as another soul sacrificed in the Exchange for ChangeĀ® Program 2009.
I can't explain what it is, but those that have been paying attention should already know.

It comes and goes. There were a number of deaths around the time when Jim Henson passed. Michael Landon for one.

ahh, ;( I actually prayed this one would get better. Alot of the people who are dying are older, people used to die pretty commonly in their 50s. I'm guessing the life expectancy in this country is steadily declining. It would be interesting to research generational patterns of life expectancy. I was actually reading his wikipedia page about 4 days, with a morbid instinct that it might happen soon. I was a little dismayed that despite his ailment that he was still smoking. I thought he was incredible in Point Break.

There was no point in quitting smoking at his late stage of pancreatic cancer. He was terminal with 1% chance of surviving more than a year. He might as well go out doing something he loved.

My mom and I had a bet on when he would die - not to gamble on the man's life, but on the severity of pancreatic cancer. This was in January, she bet $10 he'd be dead by June, IIRC. I WON MOM! Sad to see him go. Just trying to say (in a semi-humorous way) I was optimistic for the poor guy.

I expect 5 of the 6 movies I listed to be marathoned on TBS, TNT, Spike or some equivalent random cable network that like to show movies tomorrow. The only one I'm not expecting to see is The Outsiders, although it would be nice.

Red Dawn was marathoned on Ion Television a little while ago. I think that will see some more air time.

It had gone into remission a couple of times, he lasted alot longer than doctors thought he would. There is no need pumping carcinogens into your body. It only speeds up the process. Its hard to quit smoking. Maybe he could have held out a little longer, but we will never know. Its too bad, I was hoping he would be that 1% survivor story. Although I am sympathetic to smokers, i never picked up the habit, but on the rare occasions I did smoke it was great. Its too bad though that something so stress relieving (in the short term) is such a terrible thing for your body. Its a double edged sword, there are benefits, there are drawbacks. I was at a film festival not too long ago and they were playing Ernest clips, Jim Varney was such a genius. Another southern voice of similar circumstances. Everyone dies though. Some burn slow and steadily, some burn fast and bright.

I was gonna include Red Dawn on the list, but I couldn't remember actually seeing the movie like the rest of them. I was thinking that I was maybe mixing it up with a different movie, like The Hunt for Red October, so I just left it off the list.

I've not seen a single movie which was mentioned in this thread. I've heard of some of them, but never seen them, for whatever reason. But I guess now's as good time as any, if the networks start showing them soon.

I heard about this last night as I was checking my email and honestly, I was a lil bummed out. Its rare that I'm actually saddened by a celebrity passing, there's only been a handful in my lifetime that I could say I was really impacted when i heard of their demise.. Time to add Swayze to the list. I've seen a couple of his movies, and he always just seemed like he'd be a cool, friendly guy, and most people say he was. Once I heard he had cancer though.. I knew it was only a matter of time, so this news wasn't much of a shock.. still sad though.
One of my favorite Swayze moments is definitely the SNL skit he did with Chris Farley. It's one of those things I can re watch over and over and not get enough of, it was just so funny. Sure it was mainly Farley that brought the comedy, but it was Swayze's nice guy demeanor that made it believable that they were friends and you felt like he was really rooting his friend on to win, that just made it much more hilarious to me.
I forgot he was in Donnie Darko until BnM brought it up, it was a small part though. He played a one of those evangelist that has a small town community fooled with his righteousness but turns out he's got more demons in his closet than anyone. I think his was he had a collection of child pornography at his home.
Never did see Red Dawn but have heard about it. Tom Cruise's son is supposed to be starring in the remake of it.

Red Dawn is freaking sweet in a campy-as-Hell kind of way. The Russians invade Colorado and a bunch of high school kids retreat to the mountains while their parents are put into concentration camps. They train really hard and come back and kick Gorbachev's ass. Seriously. It's great.

Considering what passes for celebrity status these days I'm sure we'll have one a day in a few years. Possibly due to more cameras and internet communication. What's weird is this is the only one of these highly reported deaths I knew was going to happen this year. Pancreatic Cancer is the roughest kind and is usually a death sentence upon diagnosis.

Another movie of his was "Black Dog". He was a truck driver that was unknowingly hauling weapons around. Nothing special, but a pretty enjoyable watch.

This also ruins my dreams of a Patrick Swayze, Kurt Russel Buddy flick. I always wanted to see a movie where they played brothers that go around kicking ass for no reason whatsoever.
