Title: Dirt 2 (PS3/360/DS/Wii)

Though I don't watch Nascar, or monster truck rallys, I'm addicted to racing games, particuarily off road racers. My all time favorite is still ExciteBike 64, but this generation its got to be Motorstorm Pacific Rift with Excite Truck hitting a close 2nd.
Anyone pick up Dirt 2 yet? Some of the reviews (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/dirt2) are calling it the best off road racer out there, while others says its pretty radical, but too much on the arcadey side. Hillary Goldstein docked it a decent amount of points b/c they didn't include enough "point to point rallies" but that seems a bit silly. If they didn't want to put them in the game, they didn't want to put them in. The game should be judged on what the developer sets out to do, not what you wish was in the game. Thats like docking Street Fighter for not including a SubSpace Emissary mode. But hey, its Hillary, what can you expect? (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/869/869541p1.html) Personally, I like the decision, Dirt 1 had too many of them and I became quite lonely racing alone.
So back to the game, any thoughts? I thought the PS3 demo was very impressive, particularily the in cockpit view in seeing the wipers remove rain and mudd. Since I enjoyed Dirt 1 and Grid so much, I'm picking it up regardless for my birthday in a week, so I'll be able to add to the convo then.

Picked up the PS3 version at Best Buy, they have a deal where you get $60 off the Logitech wireless wheel, so I bit (even though a wheel like that only works well on sims, it was a good time to pick it up). Quick thoughts.
So far i Love:
- Tracks, tons to choose from, tons of variety, lots of eye candy - Cars, in cockpit view is amazing, good variety, lots of ways to detail them (liveries, hula girls, and dicey objects) - The actual driving is a great mix of arcade and sim, cars handle well - Presentation, a bit more livelier than the first game - Good online
Meh - I'd prefer a more linear progression. Its a bit wide open, I almost feel like there are too many options. I prefer the Mario Kart or Motorstorm approach in my racers. - Though I'm not a gear hand, some will be put off my the lack of mechanical options for cars
Overall, seems like a very solid racer for fans of arcade or sims.

Ouch! 4.0! No wonder it was 20 dollas cheaper. No suprise though, the Wii version wasn't developed by Codemasters. Still though, 4.0 is probably a bit of an exaggeration. I'm sure there are many worse racers on the Wii.
