Title: Monster Finder - 1st Retail DSi only game
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on September 02, 2009, 12:57:24 PM
(http://i29.tinypic.com/33dwaxt.jpg) (http://mf.alphastation.jp/)

Release Date: Winter 2009
Genre: Monster Capture through use of the DSi Camera

I'm thinking this will be like that Sony game Invizimals for eyetoy meets that game where you scan barcodes to create custom monsters. only this is all portable. Could be the new pokemon.

edit: This also means that the rumor (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=16688.msg546546#msg546546) was true.

We'll see if it's any goo, I kinda doubt it. Games like that tend to rely too much on their gimmick and neglect the actual gameplay.

When Alpha-Unit first announced Monster Finder, it said that you'd make use of the DSi's built in camera to catch monsters. Today, it provided clarification. To create a monster, you simply take a picture of something with the DSi camera. Based off the picture, a monster will appear in the game. The game includes over 150 monster types. This sounds curiously like Tecmo's Monster Farm series.

Once a monster has appeared in the game, you can capture it to be added to a deck for use in battle. The game's battle system has player and enemy forces send out three monsters each, with an additional three in reserve. The combat promises strategic options, taking character distance into account.

Alpha-Unit opened a full official site (http://mf.alphastation.jp/MF_top.html) for the game today. The site offers a look at the gameplay flow, characters and monsters. It also lists a player count of two, suggesting that there will be wireless battle options.

This first DSi exclusive cartridge (something that Alfa Unit seems to be keen to promote, given the font sized use at the official site) will arrive in December.

I wonder if it changes the monster's stats based on the details of the image...

That's sort of disappointing...

Still looks interesting, but the camera use doesn't seem to exciting.

Would be cooler if it had more camera view integration like in the ghost-hunting game.

And a silly pair of goggles to wear while you run around taking pictures of stuff.

Monster Finder, eh? Would this happen to be some relation to the insanely popular Monster Hunter games? If so, this will probably be a huge hit over in the land of the rising sun.

No but by the looks of the logo that confusion might be intentional.

Alpha Unit doesn’t want any misunderstandings about Monster Finder. Their poster clearly explains Monster Finder only works with Nintendo DSis by putting giant Xs over the other models. The poster goes on to explain DSi cartridges are white, not gray like regular Nintendo DS games.

The poster is even more useful to people that own Monster Finder. Take a picture of it and Monster Finder using its photo to monster creation system will make a rare monster out from it.

GoNintendo pointed out the new name for the game: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=76331 (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=76331)

That name is so epically lame...

Yikes. Gives very little idea of what the game is going to be about. This won't draw too many kids in I would think.

Konami decided that the title was not enough to alienate everybody so they released a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcBPiY00xzo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcBPiY00xzo)

Couldn't make it any more boring...

Wow. Disturbing.

Though I can see how they were trying to rip off the the typical Pokemon opening.
