Title: Sci-fi Channel changes its name to Syfy
Post by: ThePerm on July 14, 2009, 09:02:51 PM
So they changed their name so that they can have something they can trade mark...now i want to call it syfi rhyming with spiffy...sounding sort of like syphillis.
if i were like Richard Branson I would immediately launch a channel called The Sci-Fi Channel just to further confusion
Title: SyFy Channel

its actually SyFy and the new name looks retarded. part of their excuse was because people were confused on how to pronounce it, so the changed the name to the phonetic spelling.

Shhhh!! don't say that. New season of Eureka just started. You get that show transferred to FX or something and I don't care what happens to the SyFy channel

SciFi was headed down the wrong path when it started showing wrestling. Don't get me started on how the Homogenizing of cable channels is destroying television.

ECW > You
I am glad Eureka, one of my favorite shows is bad on!

It's not the fact that it's wresting, it's the fact that it's on Sci-Fi channel.

Yes, look, its Music Television, without the music.
Say, here's G4 the gamers network, with two shows out of a week's programming that have something to do with games, and they repeat every other month.
SiFy can suck my balls. Its all about what's the cheapest way to increase viewership without taking on more risk. It couldn't be better programming, no. Say, let's license some 'reality' show that cost pennies that will attrack the coveted 18-24 demographic then increase the cost of advertising! Brilliant!

No they make AWESOME movies as well (ok maybe not).

SyFy sucks. ECW sucks too. The first few episodes were Ok, but they lost RVD and Sabu real quick...and Justin Credible, Balls Mahoney, and everything else that had anything to do with ECW. Now it's Tommy Dreamer and Christian, and a bunch (actually a few) of FCW development people.
Oh, and G4 sucks too. TechTV was much, much better, but that channel and everyone who worked for it (aside from Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb) got completely fucked over by the merger with G4. Oh well, at least Kevin Rose co-founded Digg and no longer needs G4's money.

lol did i do that lol, phonetic side of the brain breaks down.....no i see an sy and i see it proununced as system, syphillus, sister, not Sigh or Science or Cyprus. I don't know how i arrived at SyFi instead of SyFy, maybe because i decided not to post it in general chat and in the process of clicking back in pages messed it up.

You people watch too much television. How do you have time to fit it all in?!

DVR - record now and watch whenever you have the time. Its also quicker to watch that way since you get to skip the commercials.

Multitask! Play games, surf the net, and watch TV all while eating dinner and reading a book!
Personally, I believe the problem with the Ski-fee channel is that, aside from a few key shows, like Battlestar Gallactica, Stargate, and Eureka, they seem to feel like most shows should be some kind of horror show or horror based movies. Every other thing you turn on is a low-budget Alien clone, and that's not what Sci-fi is limited to.

I can imagine this channel and Starfy now getting in confused when hanging out together.

Well Sci-fi has a limited budget to work with so they pretty much focus their funds on 3 or 4 TV shows, with the rest they spend on cheesy movies and other things. All I know with Eureka back on, with Sanctuary, Stargate Universe, and Caprica in the near future I'm happy.
