Title: The Apocalypse has arrived.....
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on July 04, 2009, 02:10:23 PM
It's 2012 and Civilization is in chaos. The Apocalypse has arrived and every man for himself is the rule of the streets. You only leave your house to get more food and water when necessary, because only you can protect your family, your home and all the stuff in it.
Scenario one. Food and water is running low in your house, so you need to make a trip to the store to re-stock. Using real actual things that you own in your house, what do you take with you to make this journey? pics are welcome.
Scenario two. Its late at night and you are sleeping in bed with your significant other when you hear a noise in the house. Someone has broken into your house and probably means you harm. Using only what you can grab in your actual house within a 10 second time frame, what do you grab to confront this intruder. pics are very welcome.
*These scenarios are meant to be played out in your actual house, with actual items/weapons that you actually own in real life.* Pics are not only welcome, but encouraged

Scenario One. Leaving the house and need protection. I got me a big ass knife. Its kinda rusty too, so I feel sorry for anyone thats on the receiving end. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__downsized_1115081257.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__downsized_1115081257.jpg)
Scenario Two. Gotta reach a weapon within 10 seconds of getting out of bed.... I got my wolverine blades in the closet and a much smaller pocket knife of the night stand next to the bed. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__0802070923.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__0802070923.jpg) http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__0802070925.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/BlackNMild2k1/cid__0802070925.jpg)
no pics of the pocket knife yet.

#1 I would take some of my knives, the mace, a flashlight, a jacket, a lighter, some paper to help start a fire, a pocket first aid kit, rope, canister for extra gas, containers for water, cell phone (or walkie-talkie if cell servce went down, I'm assuming it would take a bit for it to fully go out), compass, maps, my combat boots, gloves, usb thumb drive with special programs on it (never know when you come across a computer that could have useful data on it), a thermos with a warm liquid or soup (btw I'm assuming the expected average trip time is about a full days trip give or take), sealed snacks and food (so as to not attract unwanted animal attention). I intend to have a gun of some sort in the next few years so count that in. Also my fictional motorcycle assuming I get that in the next two years like I want.
Also, there is a little lake behind our house a little ways. Plus it rains a lot in my area. Water shouldn't be an issue.
#2 I have a number of knives, and martial arts skills. And if this happens in those fictional two years I made up, a gun too. ;D

Your scenario on is fine and well thought out, but in your scenario 2, could you reach those knives with a 10 second time frame of waking up in bed?
I would picture it as waking up slightly disoriented yet startled by a noise and spending the 1st few seconds trying to figure out what you heard. That would probably leave you with only a few seconds to actually get up and grab whatever weapon is closest. Can you get to your knives quickly and quietly?

1#
I'd take my three dogs, a katana giri, a canister, a camel back, a zippo and torch, and a maglight.
2#
I'd hope my dogs could take the fucker out (that's why I have them, to protect my ****!), but if not, I'd reach from my dagger and/or throwing knives.

What kind of dogs?

1. I'd bring my Klingon batleth with me.
2. I'd throw my Pikmin Chappy Plush Beetle at their face to scare them because beetles aren't supposed to get that big, then I'd grab my batleth and then scare them totally away with my replica lightsaber.

Doberman, Part Husky/Part Wolf (only about 25%), and a German Shepard
Is the husky/wolf one big? a couple of my friends have a mix similar to that and the dogs are big. Easily big enough to knock you down by accident if you weren't paying attention.
Too bad that sword in the picture isn't also real. Were those real world weapons or are they weapons that became real after Star Trek? Because that sword is bad ass and someone trained with that batleth could do some serious damage.

You know I'm not really sure.

All of my dogs are over 60, with the biggest being my Shepherd at 120. He's a fuckin bear though.
My husky/wolf the last time I checked was around 100 but he's still young (at about a year and a half), with his giant paws, and will probably out grow my shepherd. I expect my youngest, the Doberman at half a year, to become my biggest though. He's fucking massive and his paws are enormous. He's pretty damn tall as well.

I keep my DS HEVY on my nightstand. I'd grab that in both scenarios.
I'd also bring my dog (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=19810.0) with me in scenario 1, just to make sure no one broke into my house to eat her.

So in either scenario, you and your dog are not gonna survive for very long?

When's the last time you held the original DS? You can kill a man with that thing.

What's important to remember is that in a post-apocalyptic world, we'll all be energy people, and one mass consciousness, as well as bearing telekinesis with mind-control applications, too.
(Man, I listen to too much late-night radio, even if just for fun...)
You should have a generator, non-hybrid seeds (enough for an acre,) a water purifier, a shotgun with several cases of ammunition, fuel for the generator, and... uh... I don't remember what else they say.
Anyways, when people want all that stuff, even though there won't be people, just the mass consciousness, you'd need a ray gun to do it any harm, something that fires energy, and not matter, since the mass consciousness is an energy cloud, and it could just repel, or even not be effected by anything solid you toss into it.
However, the mass conscious might not be energy, in actuality. It could be a gaseous existence. In that case, you'd want to try to turn the vapor into a gas version of a solution, or whatever it's called when you put something in a gas. Doing so, you'd dilute their thoughts, and they'd probably leave you alone.
Just saying, you know?

I'm always be alert when I get woken up like that. And most of my knives are in/on my nightstand or still in my pants which are on the floor next to my bed.
But is it battle ready? An unsharpened edge may lead to trouble if things come to a head. Also hope he is unskilled in combat. I know several people who could probably disarm that from you easily even if they've never seen a batleth before.

you are much more prepared than I am in scenario 1. I didn't list any supplies needed for sustenance, such as water. I think the only thing you forgot to pack is the Zombie Repellent, and I know you have some somewhere.

This reminds me that I need to start keeping a shot gun under my bed. Best friend in a Zombie Apocalypse.

in Arizona its advisable to bring a water bottle when traveling from city to city, so its a no brainer here for simple situations. If your car breaks down here it could mean death. The other items i selected are things that could either be used as a weapon or be used to get through something. Also, obviously i listed supplies for electronics, these could be useful for acquiring cars, going through electric security doors, etc...in fact they have so many uses I doubt i could list them all. I would like to add a small knife to the list too. Some of these ideas I got not from Zombie survivalism thought, but Bear Grylls. We would definately raid best buy for seasons of Man vs Wild in an apocalypse.

Forget Best Buy. I'd hit up Fry's.
Though Wal-Mat would have everything you need to live in a survival situation. Bow and arrows, guns, food, water, camping equipment, knives, cooking gear, electronics, fishing gear, car maintenance material, clothes...you name it and Wal-Mart has it.
