Title: GCN not able to read disk, help!!!!!!!
Post by: Temidien on April 16, 2003, 02:49:34 PM
Can anybody please help me??? My Gamecube keeps saying after every 5 minutes of playing Windwaker that it cant read the disk. I know it's not the disc becuz i tried it with some of my other games and it still had the same problem. I consulted my game manual like the error message said but it didnt help. Does anybody have any advice on how i can fix it myself or any troubleshooting tips (i dont feel like paying 50 bucks so some greedy merchant touches one little thing and it starts working....not saying that NOA is a greedy merchant kind of company)? Link hs to save Hyrule from Ganon's clutch and Tony Hawk isnt getting any younger sitting on his skateboard waiting to skate. Please, save my GCN!!!

How long have you had your gamecube and when did the problem start? If you've had it less than a year it should still be under warranty I think.

I've had it since the weekend it was released. I dont play it very often and ive only moved it a few times between rooms in my house. The problem started when i started playing Windwaker. It's never had a problem like this so Im not sure exactly what to do. Does anyone happen to know a good place i can send it in to get repaired at the very least (a cheap but reliable place)??? Thx much for help.

My problems started when I was playing windwaker also...
anyhow this is seems pretty widespread and is really pissing me off, I've read a few things around the internet on it and for some people they fixed it for free and gave them an extended 3 month warrantee, and for others they turned their back on them....so I'm going to write them a letter and see what comes of it.

I was talking to one of my friends and they said they had the same problem when they started playing windwaker. Are u talking about Nintendo (NOA) fixing it for free or the strore where the game was purchased? Thx for the tip.

If you call Nintendo up they might be able to fix your Gamecube up for you for free.  I've heard plenty of stories of people who had them fixed for free, and their warenty(sp?) extended by Nintendo themselves.

Ok I called them yesterday and after a whole lot of bitching they gave me an extra month of warranty.  It might be notable that these problems are occuring when people play windwaker....

LOL i didn't know that Nintendo was going to give you that much of a problem.  All I've heard are compliments about their service.

Well the poor guy on the other side of the phone kind of had to give me a problem because by all accounts my gamecube was out of warranty.  But it isn't like I dropped it or spilt anything on it,  I'm pretty sure that the problem is a manufacturers defect that just didn't show up until a year and 5 months after I bought it (Figures).  Anyhow, since they offered to extend the warranty I can't quite say anything bad about their customer service.  When you think about it it wouldn't be worthwhile for them to lose me as a customer over a repair that will cost them maybe $50 max (in reality)  Since I spend probably $200-300 a year on nintendo products, and now probably will for the next 10-30 years.

The repair guys say they think it was my driver (At least that's what they replaced) anyhow I havn't had a chance to play it much since I got it back so if I have any more problems I'll be sure to post

This should have gone in GC Discussion if anywhere, but yeah always call tech support for this kind of thing.  Random forum users aren't much help.
