Title: Problem moving save files onto SD card
Post by: Caliban on June 18, 2009, 10:52:29 PM
Has anyone noticed how some game save files won't allow you to move or copy them onto an SD card?
It has happened to me for the Kororinpa 2, and Metal Slug Anthology save files.
Is there someone in this forum that might have any clue as to why the negation?

Are those games with online play? Any game with a friend code can't be copied. If not, do they contain any sort of data which could cause problems if it's copied?

I know some Virtual Console games have this problem, not just retail Wii games.

K2 has an online leaderboard I think, but MSA has nothing of the sort.
Some virtual console games are also affected by this? Wow. That sucks.

Perhaps it is simply developer laziness? Maybe it takes a little extra effort in order to allow save files to be copied to the SD card.

I'm pretty sure homebrew has a save game extractor and an installer, so you can pretty much copy and rip any save game file onto your SD card. I haven't tried it out to see how it works, but I haven't seen anything saying it doesn't work, so it sounds like it should be pretty basic coding.
A lot of times, developers don't even think about how one person can play the same game on multiple consoles, though. It just gets overlooked.

Homebrew does indeed have a extracter and installer. I have used it many times for Animal Crossing: City Folk (there is a program that lets you change the layout of your town, add/remove any item/flower/tree, alter you money amount, etc. It's also the only practical way to restore the grass in your town.)

No it's not that, some saves are protected. The VC games have protected saves because of the save state, and online enabled games because of friend codes which are generated once you go online and are unique to each person.
