Title: Chibi-Robo Remake Receives a Complete Control Overhaul
Post by: Flames_of_chaos on May 16, 2009, 12:35:02 PM
Like other games in the New Play Control! series, Chibi Robo's controls are revamped.

The next game to receive the New Play Control! treatment in Japan is Chibi Robo. The biggest change for the Wii release is the addition of point-and-click controls to make the robot move, replacing the analog stick control in the GameCube version.  Motion controls have also been added to the in-game chores, such as sliding the Wii Remote back and forth to clean paw prints with a toothbrush.

An interesting side note regarding this control scheme change is that the game was originally supposed to be a point-and-click adventure before Skip Co. began co-developing the title with Nintendo.

New Play Control! Chibi Robo will be released in Japan on June 11.  There is currently no US release date.

I really think it's awesome that they are reviving the original control scheme found in the beta version of the game since the Wii Remote is obviously the perfect controller to do it with. I wonder if Skip will be creating a Chibi-Robo sequel on Wii.

Dude, I love love love the first one, but never quite finished! So I'm real excited for this.

I never got the original, so I'm pretty excited for this.  Although, I'm not too sure about the point and click; I can get behind the idea, if that's how the game was intended to be.

Point-and-click will work well with this game, but I feel that the original controls are more engaging.

I wonder if Skip will be creating a Chibi-Robo sequel on Wii.

That would be awesome if it came to be true.

Hm, interesting. I was considering getting this if it comes to North America, but I'll be sure to read some reviews to see just how well the controls work. It will also depend on how much the original game sells for.

It is a very good thing that Nintendo is doing this. This could be exactly the sort of 1st party effort that is needed to bring interest from other developers to do P-N-C adventures. It could also be a jumpstarter towards the revival of Z&W and maybe the switch that finally turns that lightbulb on over at LucasArts that says "hey, it would be a good idea to bring our P-N-C games over to the Wii. Lets make ScummVM on Wii a reality & start with the Monkey Island series!!"

The question with this game is to buy again or not to buy again. The first one was amazing (it's one of Chessa's favorite games of all time), and now with these controls it seems as if it could be even more amazing.

IIRC the game was originally a point-and-click ordeal before Miyamoto stepped in and "upended the tea table" on it because it wasn't very fun. So it's kind of funny to see the game go back in that direction after it was so strongly pushed in another.

EDIT: D'oh it looks like Luke mentioned that in the article.
