Title: Official NWR WiFi Night - March 2009 - Day Voting and Game Nominating
Post by: Pale on March 02, 2009, 02:58:40 PM
It's time for another official NWR WiFi night. It's happening next week and let's start things out as usual with a poll for which day we play.

We are implementing the "Can't do the same thing twice" rule this month for both day and game, so you will notice that Friday is not an option in this poll.

Voting will end at some point Thursday morning.

This is also the game nomination thread, so throw your desired games up in here.

Sorry this is happening the second week of March and not the first.

I nominate Bomberman Blast.

Just so everyone knows, there are only two evenings I'm available next week so I may not be able to participate. :(

Well, since others have nominated Mario Kart Wii, Bomberman Blast, and Battalion Wars II, then I'm going to toss out Mario Strikers Charged as my nomination.

Why do you guys even bother nominating games?  You know either Smash Bros, Mario Kart, or (maybe) Animal Crossing is going to win.

We really need to figure out a better way of doing this.

Campaigning to get people to vote for different games seems like a good approach to me.

I really think Bomberman Blast could be a great change of pace and I think everyone should vote for it? Unless you like being boring and dull. =P

I'm all for Bomberman Blast.  It got a significant number of votes the first time we did one of these, but it's sucked up ever since then.

After Smash Bros. won AGAIN last time (why it won when the online play lags so much that it's impossible to get a decent match), I think a rule was made that a game can't win two times in a row. So It won't be Brawl again.

No, it'll alternate between Brawl and Kart.

What i don't understand is if everyone hates this so much, why does it still win the voting?

The online play wasn't bad when it first launched. During the first month after release I played dozens of games and had lag in maybe 10% of them. When I got online access again back in December, I tried playing online Brawl again and couldn't play even 1 game due to lag (the entire match was nothing but lag and made it unplayable). Not sure how it managed to get worse in 8 months.

BTW, in the last vote I went with Animal Crossing: City Folk. Brawl is my favorite Wii game, but I refuse to play it online or support it in these votes until Nintendo fixes the lag (or at least return it to its March levels when you only had lag once in a while).

I don't hate it.  I think it's fan-fucking-tastic.  Yes, it has its fair share of problems.  But it's still Brawl.

Oh, the "it" i meant was just the possibility of playing the same game over again, not the game itself.

Hah just realized I have two "its" in that sentence.. one refers to the thing I just said, the other to Brawl... =P

Hurray for poorly worded sentences! =P

Oh god, it wasn't to "its" it was an 'it' and a 'this'...

So I change my mind, I did word that sentence alright... this meant the repetition of games.

Hurray for poor reading! =P

Better answer:  Everybody owns these games.  Brawl and Kart are by far the best selling online games for the Wii.  They'll win every time simply because more people own those games.  If Brawl won last time everybody will vote for Kart this time.  Next time it will be back to Brawl.

Maybe we should have a regular Brawl Night separate from WiFi night so that more games can be played.

But then nobody will participate in WiFi night because nobody owns any other games!

I think we just need some more "big" online games.  The Conduit and Excitebots (it has online multiplayer--right??) should help.

I don't own Bomberman Blast but I want to play it for a WiFi night.  I'd probably buy it the day of if it won =P.

More people need to take this approach. :)

Maybe we shouldn't try to agree on one game for WiFi night at all, then, but just a time when we'll all be online so we can have better luck matchmaking for whatever games we feel like playing.  Then you could try to drum up support for Bomberman.  I might even clean the fridge and buy it if I thought it might get played.

I missed the first Wi-Fi night involving Mario Kart which is why I'd vote for it this time around.
Plus, I don't like SSBBrawl so you don't have to worry about another vote for that every month.
I'd definitely join in on a Bomberman Blast party, it's an enjoyable game and it supports eight players so lots of people can join in.

I wonder if it'd be too frequent to have a designated W-Fi night every week. There could be a night for SSBBrawl, a night for Mario Kart Wii, and the remaining two nights could be any obscure game which strikes the mood of the participants. I don't know if titles like BWii and Mario Strikers Charged will ever win in a monthly event.

I think we need to have two game options each WiFi night, just in case someone doesn't own one of the games or they just don't feel like playing it.  It would give the "smaller" games a chance to shine.

Yeah it has 6 player online play.

I'd be down with Bomberman or Brawl.
If BWii or World@War wins I'd be down with that too.

Any day works for me right now so I'll abstain from voting in this poll.

I just realized that you can vote for every day so that's what I went ahead and did.  :P

I'm torn between Kart, Brawl and Bomberman, personally.

I predict Conduit to be the shoe-in for June's WiFi Night.

Brawl is ineligible, so you know.  Duly replace it with BWii.

And Mario Kart's not gonna happen because NWR hates Mario Kart, evidenced by Brawl winning two months in a freaking row.

Just remember that Brawl won't be an option for this month since it won the previous wi-fi night.  That is the rool.
