Title: GAF discusses NWR

Nintendo exclusive sites in general, really. PGC and NWR come up several times. They are hyper critical in the usual GAF way, but it's interesting anecdotal evidence from the online gaming community.

More like painfully truthful

PGC>>>>>NWR

Remember when the most of the staff went to E3 and other major events? DVDs and t-shirts? News was posted at least 72-hours after it happen and people actually read the site? Billy and Louie the cat actually care about the site unlike the past few kidnappers Directors.........

Hell the main page is just painful to look at.

I didn't want this to be another rag on NWR thread. The Lindy administration has it's first 100 days to layout their vision. I like to think NWR can take the criticism as motivation.

stevey is one of the reasons NWR isn't as good as PGC.

e: oh crap almost forgot my smiley.  ;)

Am I the only one that finds it funny when they accuse Nintendo sites of being for fanbois?

No you aren't alone.

Did they mention me anywhere in the thread?

MegaByte keeps promising for a drastic revision to the main page.  It can't come soon enough.

Remember when the most of the staff went to E3 and other major events?

I don't know if it is necessarily fair to blame NWR for not being able to get into E3 the past few years.  The show was scaled back a bunch and they just weren't giving out tickets like they used to.  Hopefully that will be fixed this year and we'll see a return to form.

There's no discussion of vudu in that specific thread, but they have a seperate hate-thread for him don't worry.

I wish someone had something of substance to add in that thread. "Ew" doesn't tell me what they dislike so much.

I know NWR doesn't get news up as quickly as many other publications do. Trust me, I tried to make it current when I started last year, but with all volunteers who are all busy with real jobs/school all day, it's just not possible, as badly as we might want it to be.

I believe that NWR does provide pretty decent preview/review content, and I'd like to think we have some nice unique features from time to time, as well as a couple great podcasts and a growing blog.

With a volunteer staff, I'm not too sure how much more we could do.

So is the currency level of the news and reviews about the same as it was back in the cube days? If it is less now, what has changed?

I don't think there's anything we at NWR could do to please the NeoGAF crowd.  We are looking at ways of addressing the timeliness of our news, however.

As the Wii has shown this generation, the GAF crowd shouldn't even be addressed.

Considering that GAF is a rival videogame site I'm not surprised to see them bashing us.

I don't consider the GAF forums to be a "rival" video game site as much as a wild west forum that many gaming industry insiders frequent....for better or worse.

As others on staff have already said, there is only so much we can do. Billy's departure was a huge change for PGC, but hardly "the end" of PGC. Times change, responsibilities change, and people change. Is NWR as epic as PGC. No, but it is unfair to expect that of us as the industry, PR firms, and our staff mature and morph. I'm no longer a student living in SoCal that is available and eager to cover anything and everything. And I'm not the only one. Rick, AussieBen, and Obi are just a few veterans that have left for one reason or another. Others (like me) have scaled back. If the GAF guys can't accept this, it's their loss, because while news and media is an uphill battle, we still have some great reviews, podcasts, and other content.

As one of the lead designers of the current site (who is not involved in the redesign effort), I try to avoid negativity toward the NWR design, lest I take it personally. (I'm soft.)

Jonnyboy is in there defending the castle.

I can't wait to see the new design.

I remember ruby_onix, looks like he is just as anti-Nintendo there as he was here!

It's funny how Bill left NWR, but he obviously still posts at NeoGAF. WTF man?
