In some of the trailers I checked out it has COS-MOS from xenosaga and plays like a RPG-fighting hybrid.
If anyone is wondering why, it's made by Banpresto and Namco-Bandai owns them.

Weird, isn't SRT kinda like Fire Emblem with giant robots? So this is an ARPG spinoff? Why does it have people fighting instead of giant robots?

Some of the games are like fire emblem, some are pseudo fighter RPGs it's not one set genre except an RPG.

Also this game was made by the Namco x Capcom team in  Monolith Soft(yes the same Monolith that Nintendo now owns).

And also KOS-MOS' pre-battle animation:

At first I thought it might just be a renamed version of that game.

I just saw some vids and a feature on it...sooo happy to see so much gratuitous booby on a DS game! Reminds me of those old Gowcaiser games,  :D

Won't it be hard to appreciate this game if you don't know a lot of the characters, who are pulled from numerous obscure (in the West) anime series?

The most famous character is KOS-MOS since the game is made by Monolith before Nintendo bought them from Namco-Bandai and Monolith made Xenogears/Xenosaga. The game itself plays like Namco X Capcom and I believe that OG Saga is more of a spin off where the main Super Robot Wars/Super Robot Taisen plays a lot like Fire Emblem except with mechs from series such as the various Gundam series and a lot of other mech series from Japan.

Does OG not stand for Original Generation?  I thought that the OG line of games was designed with all original characters specifically to avoid licensing problems for a Western release.

Yes it does mean that, but the super robot wars/taisen series has a lot of different robot lines in general I was just explaining it to people who aren't familiar with the series.
