G4 Wednesday announced that Billy Berghammer will become the network’s new director of gaming editorial where he will oversee all nonlinear and browser-based content platforms.

Berghammer, who has more than a decade of experience in the gaming industry, will be responsible for gaming content for all of G4's nonlinear platforms, including G4TV.com, G4 on Demand, G4 Podcasts, G4 Mobile, as well as the network's Wii and PS3 browser-based content platforms. In addition to managing the day-to-day work of G4TV.com's gaming editorial group, Berghammer will work closely with publishers and developers to obtain exclusive content, breaking news and interviews, company officials said.

“Billy's outstanding experience coupled with his strong relationships within the gaming industry make him the perfect fit to lead G4TV.com,” said Joshua Krane, G4’s senior vice president, interactive and new media, in a statement. “As we continue to expand videogame content on G4TV.com, Billy will play an integral role in shaping the Web site and maximizing opportunities for gamers, publishers and developers.”

Prior to joining G4, Berghammer served as managing editor of Game Informer Online for five years. Prior to his stint at Game Informer Online, Berghammer created and ran Planet GameCube, a popular Nintendo-specific videogame Web site.

I gave my congrats to Billy some time ago, but glad to see that the news is official. Wonder if he'll get tired of Yoshinoya now that he has year-round access to it. :-) Will be great to hang out more often in any case. Also great to see that he managed to throw a shout-out to the early years there too.

Talk about moving on up. From running PGC to GI, some free lancing, and now this. Hope they'll give him free reign to do what he wants; whatever he gets his hands on, he gets it done. I wish him all the best. Also, teh Louie!

Billy is one dedicated guy. Covering video games is his passion, and it's great to see his continued success. I don't care much for G4's television programming, but that doesn't really have all that much bearing on the online arm's content or how that content is presented. Billy has radio experience that goes WAAAAAAY back; I'm glad to see he'll be involved in G4's podcasts.

Personally, I'd NEVER get tired of Yoshinoya. I've had a friggin 8-year-long craving for some Yoshinoya's.

if only i was a better social climber, i rarely see him online anymore(obviously he's super busy). That still means im only 2 degrees away from some sort of greatness.

Last time I ate Yoshinoya I got the runs. I haven't tried it here in Japan, but I really don't feel the need to.

Congrats, Billy.  Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, despite the fact that you're a Minnesota Wild fan (shudder).

Overall, I thought Billy did a great job with the E3 analysis on G4.  When the former host of Single Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeqrGJUHM9w) would stumble as to what to say next, Billy was quick to deliver and well thought out statement on Nintendo and the industry at large.  For once, I felt as if I wasn't slowing getting dumber when watching G4.

Anyways, their silly "Best of E3" awards came on last night, and I couldn't help but think Billy had a hand in choosing what won for Best Wii Title (http://g4tv.com/articles/67340/xplays-best-of-e3-2009), as most sites hardly touched this game.  Nice to see how much of an impact he's having already.   8)

When they first showed Billy they had his name as Billy Mitchell, and I was like, I swear that's Billy Berhammer from PGC. Then I realized they f'ed up because they were doing the King Kong thing, and Billy Mitchell is the champion (of mullets and mustaches as well as King Kong), so they put the wrong name under him.

It was great watching Billy give his input before and after the show...

I was most entertained when he and his co-hosts shouted "WIEBE WATCH"

But most importantly i give a whole hearted congratulations to Billy

You know what I didn't get about the Best of E3 awards?

how can Scribblenauts take Best Original game award (beating Brutal Legend) and not even be nominated for Game of Show Award(that Brutal Legend was nominated for)?

That makes no sense at all.

Brutal Legend is a better game but not original.

Its sort of like comparing Metallica and Meatloaf.  While Meatloaf's sound may be more original per say, most people will agree they'd rather listen to Metallica, well, at least they're earlier stuff.  Just because something is "original", doesn't necessarily make it "good".
