I've been trying to pre-order this game since last September at my local EB. They never had it in the system to begin with, well at least not here in Canada. I'm still wanting it though.

It's time to hype Moon. It looks AMAZING for a DS game.

Dementium is going to be released in February here. I hope the delay for Moon won't be as long. GameRankings also listed a game called CORE for the DS as being released soon in the US, another FPS.

I was already impressed with Moon, but the footage in IGN's video review is mind-blowing.  My only worry (besides the repetition Bozon notes) is that the bobbing up and down might get annoying after a while.  Pending NWR's review, I'm pretty sure that I'll be paying for this one.

Not an hour after I posted that, a review copy of Moon (mistakenly) showed up at my apartment!  I'm going to play it as much as possible before I have to forward it to the reviewer on Monday, so I'll let you guys know how it is.  :-)

this is a day one purchase for me. dementium was a great game (and i recommend it for anyone who doesn't have it) and the Moon looks even better.

I wish I could buy it. I did enjoy Dementium but little things like saving and map system ruined it for me. Anyway 8.5 from IGN and Editors choice is great.

I haven't played nearly as much Moon as I wanted to (the weekend was loaded with social events), but I did boot it up this morning for a few minutes.  The bobbing effect hasn't bothered me yet, but the first gun is LAME.  I hope it's meant to be a joke or something until I get some cool alien stuff.

Adolph, the map and save system seem to be really good so far.

I really want to get this game but with the reviews being in the 6-8 range worry me a bit. Maybe NWR will be the source that determines whether I purchase it or not!

I think the rating spread means the game is not something everyone will like.

Post by: jakeOSX on January 17, 2009, 04:31:10 PM
ok, i've played a bit of this game and here are some impressions.

first the game looks great. the graphics and animations are all very well done.

the game has the feeling of the first metroid prime. in fact, i find myself shooting doors to open them. (in moon, there is an 'open door' button on the touch screen).

The game starts off with you and your crew landing on the moon. they have found a hatch with markings that match the rosewell landing craft. your group is there to investigate. while you are getting a de-brief from your general, bad stuff happens, and well, you are on your own.

because who would have it any way?

you cannot jump, duck, swing on vines, or any of those kinds of things. you do get an RC unit with camera and EMP gun. this is used to travel where you cannot, usually to open some door.

there are save spots similar to metroid. the map is pretty good in this one as well.

the voice acting is good, but i noticed the actual sound of the voices was quiet, even all the way up.

it is rated T. after demetium, i was assuming it was M, dunno if that means anything either way, but since i was rambling, i thought i'd add it in.

ok, i am back to playing. all in all, good game, definately NOT a 6, more like a 7.5 or 8 (of you take ocarina of time as a perfect 10)

Just got my review copy from Metts. Make no mistake, kids: This is Dementium in space. Same graphics engine, same control scheme, even many of the same sound effects. However, Renegade Kid has taken some of my complaints from Dementium to heart. Namely the map, which is actually useful here. There are also save points liberally sprinkled throughout each level. They've also thrown out the survival-horror flavor in favor of straight shooting. Interestingly, like Jake, I'm instinctively shooting doors, too. :-)

The music is atrocious, though. Really, it's like a MIDI file that just keeps repeating. Two really interesting things about the game, though:

1) Vehicular segments: They are cool and they work well. It's kind of like driving a Warthog, honestly.
2) Recon droids: Early in the game, you pick up recon droids which you control remotely. It's very fun, and they're used for opening force fields and finding secret items.

So I love it so far. Were I to review it today, after getting through the first (enormous) level, I'd say "buy it."

BEWARE: GAME ENDING BUG

THE LEADUP:

After beating the first boss, you are instructed to get into your moon buggy (Warthog) and drive to the second hatch. After driving a ways, you come to a row of silo-shaped beacons. To your right is a parking spot. Most people, including me, would park the Warthog on that spot. That's what it's THERE FOR, right?

THE PROBLEM:

No, it's not. If you park it there, then go traipsing on foot past the beacons and into the second hatch, you may as well restart your game.

WHY?

Because after beating the second boss, you will be told to return to your Warthog and go somewhere else. Upon stepping once more onto the platform, a cutscene will immediately interrupt you (doesn't give you time to enter the buggy). After you ascend what's apparantly an elevator and regain control, the Warthog will be GONE, and you will be SCREWED. You cannot get to the next area on foot.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO INSTEAD?

Park the buggy next to the beacons, and NOT on the elevator. After beating the second boss (yeah, he's hard), go back outside, enter your buggy, and DRIVE IT onto the elevator.

This is a really horrible bug, given that:
1) You didn't know it was an elevator; and,
2) It looks like a parking spot.

So thanks, Renegade Kid! Watch out for this, readers!

Get it, GP. The glitch is easily avoided, and I'm having an absolute blast with it. Haven't quite beaten the game yet. Expect a review up by the weekend, though.

Well my first experience with the game was good. I just got RAD and got to the point where it tells you how to switch back to your main guy. Only one problem the game locked up on me. So instead I went and played Elebits 2. Hopefully this is an anomaly and not the norm!

A nice decrease for the game.

Oh, wow, I might go tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

One question for everyone though. Does anyone else play left handed? I always felt a little uncomfortable using the face buttons and not the d pad on Hunters. Is this something your hand adapts to?
Title: Re: Moon

I played Dementium left handed. It was kind of hard.
Title: Re: Moon
Post by: Stratos on February 14, 2009, 05:42:03 AM
It dissuaded me from finishing Hunters and I'm a little worried about how it will turn out in Moon.
Though if there is more exploring and less death match like fighting it might not be as much of an issue.

Played about an hour so far. Very good game, much better than Dementium. The storytelling is well done. Graphics are really good and control is better. Levels can be a little box like, but I am enjoying this so far.

Well the game was basically sent to die with no advertisement support from it's publisher. Also it came out at a bad time after the xmas buying season and during a crap economy.

Would you say that there just isn't much of a demand for FPS games on the DS?

I disagree, after Metroid Prime Hunters I'm sure there was a demand for FPS games on DS the problem is everyone one of them except for Golden Eye Rogue agent and maybe the call of duty DS games none of them had multiplayer.

So to adjust my statement; would you say there is a demand for deathmatch FPS gaming on the DS and a lack of demand for solo-based FPS gaming on DS?

After all, didn't Goldeneye on the N64 and Halo on the first XBox sell crazy mostly due to the multiplay?

Yes, if Moon and Dementium had some multiplayer component I'm sure there would be more incentive to purchase a copy. There's nothing wrong with a single player only FPS but the length has to be justified for the lack of multiplayer.

I'm really sad that people aren't buying the game. It really deserves recognition and financial success.
Title: Re: Moon
Post by: Stratos on March 05, 2009, 05:52:40 AM
Apparently the publisher is reporting a larger number of units were sold than reported by NPD. Supposedly it sold 3-4 times what NPD suggests.

That's what was mentioned on the latest Nintendo Voice Chat.

So 4500-6000 is more accurate though that still isn't terribly much.
Title: Re: Moon
Post by: rbtr on March 07, 2009, 03:07:49 AM
I picked this up because of the gamestop price cut.

It's pretty alright.  It's surprisingly good considering the size of the dev team, the budget which I imagine was small, and etc.  There's a lot of heart that went into it, it sort of reminds me of Scurge: Hive.  I wish there was more enemy variety, or even better designed enemies.  However it is fun blasting things, and the RAD is, well, rad...
Title: Re: Moon
Post by: AV on June 16, 2009, 02:06:24 PM
i bought it at Fry's this past sunday for also $19.99.

I just got RAD and to the nearest save point. I am so far very much enjoying it, the only problem is that the enemies seem to repeat and killing little robots isn't that interesting. I also miss rumble.

I had a DS rumble pak but I rarely used it, and it wasn't flush with the DS Lite so i sold it for like $2 or something, I am just used to it in FPS games so I miss it. To my knowing no US retailers carry the DS Lite rumble pak.

you guys are lucky that you got the release first. It's not out in Europe until July 3rd.

We're trying to spread the word about it and get some more reviews up online so if you've got any more thoughts/comments or personal reviews keep 'em coming!

I want it but I'm waaay over budget for this month, largely due to cheap points cards from an insolvent retailer and The Conduit (blame NWRers hyping it).
