Title: cel-shading art
Post by: RahXephon on April 09, 2003, 11:54:03 PM
Cel-shading can have such a definitive look and can give you a feel of a game easy. There are so many ways to make things look and move. My Question is: What cartoonists style would you like to see a cel-shaded game based on and why?
Don't just say anime, give specific names.
Although i am the biggest Otaku i know, i would have to say Jhonen Vasquez who does Invader Zim, Squee, the Bad Art Collection, and of course the famous JHONNY THE HOMICIDAL MANIAC series.
The reason i choose these art style is it is so sharp, yet so twisted. Everything looks scarry and evil. The colors work beautifully. And the people are just so cool looking.
Here is some awsome artwork from the show Invader Zim

i love invader zim!!! i really want to check out Jhonen Vasquez's other works too, if it was done right (which we all know it wouldn't be) an Invader Zim game would be really cool *hops inside the megadoomer and stomps off towards dib's house* Now i know you cant see me GIR just follow the sound of the stomping!! they hear the terror but they see NOTHING!! FOOOLS!

Haven't really seen a proper episode of Invader Zim but heard it was very good. Cel Shading is like a whole new dimension in games to me, or somethingl like that!

YOU COULD PLAY AS G.I.R. WHEN HE'S THE HOUSE'S COMPUTER!!!
"must obey the taco man" "but i need tacos, i need them or i'll explode, that happens to me sometimes"
or you could play as Dib, trying to sneak into Zim's house and get past his defenses.

rpglover, samurai jack was my second choice, it has such a cool look, almost mezmorizing. Very cool. Also the story behind it is awsome. Anyone who has seen Noir, that would be a fun shooter game.

For those looking to see samurai jack style as a game, go pick up the new Zelda game. It's a cross between that and disney's mulan...

I also like the way Samurai jack was animated, but I would also like to see a game with the kind of animation from an old MTV cartoon. I forgot what it was called. Not Bevis and Butthead. It was sorta like a sci-fi cartoon where all the people were like tall and thin........well you gotta see it really. But right now I can't think of the name.

Hmmm....I think you are referring to Aeon Flux. It was a cool cartoon that had no dialogue, then they turned it into a full fledge series with dialogue and it wasn't quite as cool as the original Liquid TV short. Sorry about the run on sentence. Anyway I think a lot of games could benefit from Cel-Shading. Any DBZ game or any cartoon based games would look great in a cel-shaded style.

Disney movies, thats all I can say, with cel-shading, old disney movies (in the right hands) could make perfect games. Maybe not based on the movie, but like a sequel, only for a videogame.

Hey Kuchakor, don't give Konami any ideas now We are finally getting MGS, if they hear about this they man can it for some more Disney titles....shhhhh!!! Jokes aside, cel-shading would look stellar in any Disney title. Although I'm not much of a fan, I hate Mickey Mouse and I haven't watched a Disney movie since the Lion King, it would probably help sales if you could play a Disney game that looked just like the movie. Lion King kicked ass BTW.
