Title: Best 3rd Party Publisher?
Post by: Spinnzilla on December 08, 2008, 05:37:14 PM
With all the Reggie hoop-blah about 3rd parties typically shafting the wii for the PS360 game combo, I thought it be interesting to ask who do you think is doing the best job in putting out quality games for the Wii.
THQ is really impressing me. Not only is De Blob pretty damn amazing, but Deadly Creatures is looking better everytime I see it. It looks as if THQ is putting a lot of resources into their wii development. They may not be putting out the most, but what they have/are putting looks very solid in quality.
Sega is also up on the list. They are putting out 3 very "hardcore" titles next year and each look like they have a lot of effort in them.
oh, and Ubisoft.

While the Sega support has been great, their games have been average at best.
ubiSoft... HA, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I hope Beyond Good and Evil 2 fails, it's our god given right.

3rd party publishing looks horrible when it seems each publisher has roughly 1 noteworthy game in any given year, which leads to the impression that Zero games came out that year.

Right now I'm looking forward to Sega's (MadWorld, The Conduit, HOTD4) and XSEED's (Rune Factory Frontier, Arc Rise Fantasia, Muramasa: The Demon Blade) upcoming offerings the most...Hopefully the others follow their lead...

I think indicating what third parties I consider to be the best and thus want more support from would be more useful.
I'd say Capcom is doing the "best" job because Zach & Wiki is really good and frankly I can't think of any other exclusive Wii third party games I would ever want to own. They've also made Mega Man 9 and brought two of their best last-gen games to the Wii. That's like really weakass credentials and it's kind of sad that they're the "best" third party I could think of.
Activision didn't screw us too bad on Guitar Hero (at least not compared to MTV Games) so I'll give them a shout out as well.
Sega is giving us decent support in theory, they just make crap games so it means squat. We'll see how the Conduit does but I don't really think of that as a Sega game.

I am going to agree with Bill. Those games are going to be great.THQ is doing well as well.

I remember the high hopes for Ubisoft back in '06. They really had to try hard to throw that all away, but they dug deep and got it done.

I agree with Ian on Capcom being a great 3rd party publisher for the Wii. They also gave us excellent ports of RE4 and Okami.

Well since the title says Publisher, I'd say Sega. Even though Sega's own internal developed titles haven't been that hot on the Wii, the games they're publishing next year are looking good.
Madworld should end up great since it's done by former Clover employee's and House of Dead: Overkill has a chance of being great as well since it's being made by Headstrong which made both Battalion Wars games.
And of course they're also publishing The Conduit, which from the impression sounds pretty good, and the game shows other third parties that the Wii is able to product graphics well beyond early PS2 quality.

We'll see how the Conduit does but I don't really think of that as a Sega game.
Doesn't matter...The topic asks about "publishers," not developers... =)

So I took out my collection and looked at the publishers. I had most of the big players there; Konami, Sega, Eidios, Ubisoft but Capcom's games were the best. I own 3 Sega games that are all terrible. Special mention to Rising Star Games for giving No More Heroes an Australian release.

I think it'd be worthwhile to look at foreign publishers too. Marvelous Games, for example, I hope more publishers would emulate going forward. Most will know that they were evolved in helping No More Heroes come to life, but their upcoming games slate goes from Little King Story to NMH2 to Rune Factory Frontier to Arc Rise Fantasia to Oboro Muramasa Youtouden to Valhalla Knights *GASP* And yes I went to wikipedia for that.
I mean, come on. That's a list of Japanese core games that's just positively dreamy.
Or do you want me to do research into Majesco instead?

Okay the answer should now probably be Square Enix. ;)
Maybe, but Square Enix has released relatively little up-till-now. They've been exemplary on the DS, but... well... I guess it's unfair because SE naturally has a very slow console game output.

Announcing a game that'll probably come out in time for PS4 is crap support.
My vote goes to Sega.

I dunno, I'm torn between Square, Capcom and EA.

I pick myself.
I don't make any games on the Wii, which is better than what other 3rd parties do put on the Wii. Therefore, I am the superior 3rd party publisher.
