Title: Super Street Fighter II HD Remix: argh i can't roll
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on November 26, 2008, 06:57:20 AM
Street Fighter II owns. It is the basis and the magic formula from which all other fighting games are derived. To deny SF2 is to deny your place as a gamer, and the only possible outcome is to buy Super SF2 X HD Remix or kill yourself.

The online play owns. I just played lag-free matches with my friend in Japan. From America. No other console fighting game can do this! I swear to god I can't play people outside my state in SC4 without it being *** as hell. SF2 is champ!

What's new/sweet about HD remix?
Everything is redrawn (by those comic book guys! Udon!) for HD and all of the music is remixed (by guys from oc remix!). There have been slight gameplay tweaks. Some moves (mostly supers) now have alternate motions to execute them (as well as the original motions). Online play owns. It's 15 bucks.

how do i frikken hadoken??
These are some useful resources if you find yourself getting owned despite being able to beat your little brother on the super nintendo all the time:

The music owns!
Yes. It was created by the nerdy, righteous contributors at ocremix. Inspired by the previous compilation, blood on the asphalt. Download them at ocremix.org!

post your ps3 id/xbl gamertag:
I'm superty. On both! I have the PS3 one.

Capcom is the only company smart enough to milk the same game over and over without gamers crapping their panties in disgust. You gotta admire that.

I gotta download the demo...

Serious...Ty....Serious...Ty

Nope, I just can't make the connection.

I'm downloading the demo, though, so I'll chime in my impressions soon.

I bought this today for the 360 and played a few matches.  Loved everything about it.  The redone art, the remixed music, widescreen support, online play.  This game is a beast.

My gamertag is MNC Dover.  I'll be more than happy to play anyone who wants to throw down sometime.

I downloaded the demo...and I can't do anything with it. Turns out that the 360 demo only has multiplayer, and I don't have a second controller. So I have an useless demo.

Its weird. The original SF 2 demo had single player, as well as any fighting game on XBLA.

Why Capcom only included a two player demo is beyond me.

I think I'll pass. Didn't like SF2 anniversary much.

Ditto. They could have at least allowed me to play with two characters in arcade mode or something.

What do you have this for, Ty?  360?

IIRC, only the 360 version has achievements.

I see no reason to download the demo.  If you've ever played street fighter before, you should already know what you're getting gameplay wise.  Now splash on a new graphical look, widescreen support, remixed music, and online play.

Buy it today and play me!  :)

Dunno it seemed a whole lot more fun back on the SNES than in the anniversary edition (where I couldn't even beat the second "level" on easiest for some reason).

Ironically, I HAVE played and bought SF 2 multiple times. I tried out all the arcade revisions released during the SF 2 and SF 2 Turbo eras, played all three versions on the SNES heavily, played the Genesis version with a friend (a sub par port in terms of audio and visuals), played the SF Anniversary version, I own the very rare Dreamcast Matching Service version AND was planning on buying Hyper Fighter but decided to get SF 2 HD instead.

Like I said, Capcom is the only company lucky enough to get away with releasing the same games over and over without any controversy or gamer backlash.

Played it on my friend's PS3, it took some getting use to. At first, 3/5 I want to do a shoryuken, I do a hadouken instead. I wish I had video to show this hilarity. After some practice, I was able to rectify this small input error.

But for other moves, its real finicky. I use to be able to do Guile's flash kick on command, but in this version, it seems to do it when it feels like it.

I like the online play though. Match's are easy to get into, my move's don't lag (compared to brawl where you had to telegraph a move .5-1 second in advance), and if there is some lag, it doesn't freeze for a sec, then cuts to someone getting a beat down.

Shame there's no Wiiware version, but I'll still recommend this to all my PS3/360 owning friends.

Capcom isn't too smart. If they were this game would be on Wiiware.

I need a fighting game, other than Brawl

Are you using the ps3 controller?

I'm using a hori real arcade pro 2 with a usb adaptor and the controls are treating me very nicely... it seems like the margins of error for special moves are a bit more forgiving than the older SF2s. Just my observations, anyway. Any other observations?

The 720p version is like 365MB, or somewhere around there. I can't imagine a 480p version being *that* much smaller.

Can you adjust deadzones? There's no way I'll be able to pull off a shoryuken with the default deadzones games tend to use these days, needs a fairly large deadzone so you can go in a straight line from right to down without hitting diagonal. I got a pad for the PC that has a good deadzone in digital mode but I can't say I've ever seen a console game with a good setup there.

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about. Pretty sure you can still do a shoryuken if you touch d/f between forward and down

Haven't tried SF2HD but in some games it's not recognized if you hit diagonal IIRC.

SF arcade games were played with an 8-way joystick, hitting the diagonals was almost *required* to do the moves. I believe on the Genesis version(s) you could hit *only* the diagonal to throw Hadokens and what not, same with Sub-Zero's freeze in Mortal Kombat, because it had an 8-way D-pad.

Yeah, I used the digital pad, though I use the analog stick at times. It was the sixaxis sans rumble, if that makes any difference.

Don't know if dead zone's correlates to dip switches, but SSF2THDR does an option setting to turn various dip switches on and off. I didn't bother looking at in depth, as I'm sure only the most ardent of Street Fighter fans know what the terminology means and does. Maybe there's something there to help out with deadzones?

I'll try to convince one of my cousin's to download for 360, though I've been told that the 360's d-pad is abysmal. Any truth to this?

I think arcade sticks word very differently from analog sticks so there'd be no DIP option as the deadzone is part of the physical designof the stick.

I looked into it and hitting extra inputs won't **** up your moves and no street fighter game has done that in like the last 12 years. It seems like you might be doing it too slow or are having some other problem causing you to suck at doing shoryukens.

Naah, I was playing other games, some of them hate that. The only SF I owned was the anniversary edition and I didn't play that much since I couldn't getused to the basic attack ranges and stuff (or something, at least I couldn't beat even the easiest AI players in that game when I have not nearly as much trouble in any other fighting game).
