November 7, 2008 - NIS's Japanese parent company Nippon Ichi has confirmed plans for Wii and WiiWare support.

The company posted a notice to its website yesterday announcing that it finalized a contract with Nintendo on November 4 covering the development and sale of Wii and WiiWare games in the Japanese market.

Specifics were not shared, but the notice did promise an announcement once plans have been finalized.

Previously, Nippon Ichi CEO Koichi Kitazumi has expressed interest in working with the Wii. "By signing on [with Wii], we hope to attract new audiences," Kitazumi told the Kabushiki Shimbun newspaper in July.

Strategy RPGs and RPGs Disgaea is their main series.  They released Disgaea DS which is the 3rd version of the 1st Disgaea game and Rhapsody: A musical adventure which is a remake of a PSone RPG on the DS.

So they are similar to what Atlus makes usually, hell in the US Atlus is usually their sole distributor for games.
Here is their games released that IGN tracked note: Rhapsody should be on the DS list but IGN grouped it with Atlus because Atlus published the US PSone version. In the US Atlus just distributed Rhapsody.

It feels like they've been in the planning stages forever...

Well you can't really blame them for that since they are a very small company their last major releases were Disgaea 3 on PS3, Rhaposdy and Disgaea DS. So they do have very limited resources especially if you consider their next major game is Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? (http://www.destructoid.com/teaser-trailer-for-prinny-can-i-really-be-the-hero-is-adorable-110508.phtml) for the PSP which comes out February 2009 in the US.

Every developer's PS2 list is massive...Apparently it's the in-thing to work on fewer, more expensive projects with smaller userbases!

You guys should read some of the reviews for Disgaea 3 they all knock it because Disgaea 3 has PS2 level graphics. But yet it has a lot more depth.

My guess is that developers weren't and to an extent still aren't prepared of the PS3/360 leap financially and resource wise.

How exactly do you get PS3 graphics in an isometric, sprite-based game? Or even PS2 graphics, for that matter? I think that was just people who spent so much money on their system whining that it really doesn't make everything 10x better than their old system.

Design choice? I'm guessing its a case of buyers remorse of seeing how your 400 - 600 dollar purchase turned out to be a marginal upgrade.

I mean, Disgaea was going to be a sprite based isometric game either way (they could have done more than that on the PS2 had they really wanted it), what would have to happen for that to be "PS3 graphics"?

Hi res graphics. Odin Sphere looks better on ps2 than Disgaea 3 does. Its a truly ugly game. and if you play it on an SDTV then you're really going to hate life.

Well Odin Sphere is Vanilla Ware/Atlus, but I suppose the NIS equivalent is GrimGrimoire since its Vanilla Ware/NIS.

Also about a month ago NIS did announce a WiiWare game called Let's Hitchhike and on that same day Gust and Game Arts announced Wii support.
