Title: Pseudo IGN Game - Lit
Post by: D_Average on October 29, 2008, 11:36:43 AM
Anyone here still get NP?  If so, check out the latest issue.  It appears that "dark game" Matt and Bozon came up some time ago and frequently reference during Voice Chat is now actually in development with Bozon's bro's studio, Way Forward (Same studio that did Contra 4 for DS).

Here's a decription of the game:

In LIT, a teenager named Jake must make his way through his high school, overrun by shadowy creatures, to save his girlfriend Rachael who keeps in touch with him by mobile phone. The game will feature 30 levels and 5 "puzzle orientated" bosses.[3]

Played from either a top down or a third-person perspective, the game sees players controlling Jake with the Nunchuk as they wield a flashlight with the Wii Remote. Using the flashlight in addition to other sources of illumination such as lamps, flares and broken windows, Jake must carve paths of light through the darkness to safely escape.[3] Along with being used in combat against the monsters that roam the hallways, this manipulation of light will also play a big part in solving certain puzzles along the way.[4]

Sounds interesting at least....

Yeah, I remember seeing some art for this a long time ago. But I haven't heard anything more about it since.

I couldn't find any screen shots yet on the web, but the ones in NP look pretty decent.  Something to keep an eye out for at least....

I'm curious to see this. Is it first person?

I dislike the character moels and enviroments. The concept art was great and the visual concepts behind the game are great, I just think they need a different 3D modeler and texture artist.

Well, it IS WiiWare, and I haven't seen a WiiWare game over like, approx. 43 MB yet. I'm surprised they went the 3D realistic graphics route. I thought it would be 2D sprites from some of the earliest concept art.

I can understand that, but when I look at games like Lost Winds, and Chrystal Chronicles and even VIP Casino Blackjack and I know you can make better rendered characters inside the space limitations of Wiiware. The character animations look decent and the inky blackness translated really well into 3D, just not other aspects of the visuals.

The dodgeball monster looks like a DS character.

This game sounds like an awesome concept for a sequel to Luigi's Mansion.

This game looks and sounds atrocious. No wonder IGN like it.

The game looks intriguing....  Not blown away or anything though, need to see more footage.  After-all, its all about the "FOOTAGE"......--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caPvGFXKbnE&feature=related

It looks like ****, plain and simple. If it wasn't associated with IGN, it would still be where it belongs, in the toilet. I'm all for giving a game a chance, but looking at the videos, it looks like total garbage.

If this game looks like sh##, then how in the world do you describe 90% of all other Wiiware games?

After playing this for almost two hours on my fist run I want to say that the price justifies the games graphics which are nice when you get into the game play. Washing away darkness reminds me of the dust ghosts that Miyazaki sticks in his films and the bosses battles are pretty cool. I can't say much for the music though.

This game sounds like an awesome concept for a sequel to Luigi's Mansion.

I thought about the same thing while playing :)

Matt and Bozon came up with? Sorry, but this exact idea has been done time and time again on the PC through small mods for Quake and Unreal. None of them ever made it big by any means, but the idea is nothing new. The only difference is that now you're using the Wii Remote as a flashlight instead of a mouse pointer. Regardless, the concept is still good and I would like to see it done well.

I gave it a D/L as it was only 800 points and have found it quite challenging and enjoyable.

Sounds like you didn't even play this game morari, you can only have 1 item out at a time so you don't even have your flashlight out all the time. I'm liking the game but it's very frustrating at times which makes me shut off the game before I have urges to throw something.

For some reason I am getting a twisted pleasure out of the frustrating parts. I find that there is a little less trial and error than some reports have said. A lot of stuff can slowly be deduced by examining the room.
It actually feels a little like the old point and click adventure games.

Hmmm...**** never tasted so good. Unfortunately for me, I have to eat my words...and those words were "****" and "toilet". I must have been in a bad mood that day...because after playing the first 3 or 4 levels, I have to say I'm impressed. I still think the graphics suck (mainly the lighting...I mean the game *is* called "Lit", after all) - but taking into account it's Wiiware, it's forgiveable. Picking up the ringing phone is the best use of the Wiimote speaker I've experienced.

Did you play No More Heroes? They used the phone trick too. I think its the most imaginative use of the Wii-mote yet.

Red Steel did it at launch.

Really? I never played it so I didn't know. Nice to see a neat trick like that used in multiple games.

I guess I forgot about it in Red Steel and NMH. It sounded like an actual phone call on Lit, however, and just seemed to really fit the moment. Anyway, I take back everything I said before playing the game. The whole concept of the game would make for a fun level in say a new Resident Evil game, or something along those lines.
