Title: Sony US hardware announcements
Post by: Flames_of_chaos on August 20, 2008, 12:43:18 PM
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/CONFUZZLED_MUNKIE/100463-333333.jpg)

The new PSP 3000 has an updated LCD screen "with a wider color gamut and anti-reflection technology," and will also sport a built-in microphone and Skype software. Otherwise, it's the same form factor as the PSP-2000.

They're also announcing the new 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack, which includes the system, 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and a voucher to download Everyday Shooter, all for $199.99.

The Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters Pack we heard about at E3 will also include the PSP 3000 in Mystic Silver. It includes R&C, National Treasure 2 on UMD, and an echochrome voucher. It will be available on October 14th for $199.99.

Piano Black system-only packs will be available later in the year for $169.99.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PS3 Bundle with 160GB PS3 System

The 160GB PS3 system announced at the GC will be available here as part of a new limited-edition bundle that includes the hardware, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune game, a PLAYSTATION Network voucher for PAIN, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller. We’re hearing from a lot of you that more PS3 storage space is important, particularly since the launch of our video delivery service, and this new model delivers more memory and a whole lot of content packed-in. The 160GB PS3 has all of the same functionality as the new 80GB PS3 that’s popping up on retailer shelves now, but obviously has twice the HDD space, so you can build levels to your heart’s content in LittleBigPlanet, download a ton of videos, and still have room for your entire music collection. The Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune 160GB PS3 bundle launches in November for $499.99 (MSRP).

PS3 Wireless Keypad
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v438/CONFUZZLED_MUNKIE/2780863293_f892bd4206.jpg)
Lastly, we’ve announced a new Wireless Keypad for PS3 that will make text communications and Web browsing much easier. The Wireless Keypad snaps onto the top of a SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller and comes with some cool features, including a mode that turns the main key area into a touch pad (similar to a touch pad on a Laptop computer). Once in this mode, you can slide your finger on this area to move the cursor on the screen and tap to enter. There will be two short cut buttons on the Keypad that will enable users to jump directly to the XMB’s “Friends” icon and the “Message Box” during gameplay. The Wireless Keypad will launch in late November.

Last but not least, the Wireless Keypad is a Bluetooth device that can not only be used with the PS3 system but with any other Bluetooth enabled device that has Keyboard functionality. You will be able to use it with your smart phones and other portable devices that are equipped with Bluetooth. With the PS3 system, it can be paired and charged seamlessly just by connecting them with a USB cable.

In other words, another pointless SKU...They'd do better by just dropping the PSP to the DS' price, but noooooo...

Screw you, Sony. I was happy to get rid of my PSP Phat to get a PSP Slim, but why do you keep improving the technology and releasing a newer version? It's annoying is what it is. I won't buy this, but I WILL grit my teeth in anger.

Well Halbred the only big advancement is a built in microphone for skype if you want to ease a little of your frustration.

Skype on the PSP? Yay. I'd rather use it on my more-reliable PC, thankyouverymcuh. I'm one of those old coots who thinks that the PSP is a gaming device, not a multimedia center. That's what my computer is for, and, to a lesser extent, my PS3.

It's too bad that Sony seems to disagree...

Skype a feature because of a firmware for ever PSP model you just need a headphone headset, hell I think the official DS headphone mic works because it uses the same jack input.

Witty yet obviously observation, the PS controller has equaled dick since it's very existence.

the keyboard is sexy? I think the hot new next gen accessory is going to be a mouse or possibly an all-in-one printer.

And here I thought I was weird because the first thing I thought when I saw it was "What's with that crotch hook?"

I don't know about you guys but that looks awkward and I rather use my PS3 logitech keyboard for all my 3 systems (it uses a USB dongle).

I'd have to use the keypad to actually determine whether or not it's comfortable to use.  It sure doesn't look like it.  No matter, the keypad was made for the sole purpose of matching Microsoft peripheral-for-peripheral anyways, so let the 5 people that buy it knock themselves out.

As for the PSP, it really has no impact for me since I already have a Skype mic.  It's one of those announcements that's totally non-news, although I guess you could now use the PSP as a self-contained VoIP phone, which is kinda cool...for people that don't own one yet and are in the market for one (e.g. people in Japan).

It looked awkward before they added that keypad addition.

Yes, I feel the need to express my disdain for the DualShock at every available opportunity.  Every aspect of its design is poor.
Title: Re: Sony US hardware announcements
Post by: Adrock on August 26, 2008, 06:00:49 PM
Really, Sony? Really? At least Sixaxis was a thinly veiled attempt at copying Nintendo. It's like Sony decided that their controller wasn't 360 enough so they 360'd up the Dual Shock 3 and added a thumb keyboard.... which is odd because the 360 controller is just a reshaped Playstation controller.

And I'd buy a PSP if Sony would just lower the price instead of adding things and keeping the price the same. They just keep giving me reasons not to buy one. Bang up job, Sony.

Thing is, PS3 needed the thumb keyboard.  Unless you wanted to grab a bluetooth keyboard, there wasn't any practical way to type in text (although I must say, after I got used to their predictive keyboard, I actually grew to like it).

I have no idea what Sony is doing with PSP.  Great system, but seriously Sony, stop with the incremental changes.  Somebody over there is hardware-obsessed, even for the typically hardware-obsessed Sony engineering department.

Well to be fair with Sony the PSP Slim was a fair redesign (like the DS Lite), but this design is a tad bit silly because it is proof that the PSP is about as good as it could get if all they could ad was a microphone and a better screen.

Post by: NWR_Lindy on August 27, 2008, 10:11:43 PM
I just don't see why they didn't add the new screen and microphone on the Slim.  That would have actually made sense.

Also, when referring to the predictive keyboard, I'd like to change "like it" to "tolerate it".

SO HE DOES RETORT SOMETIMES.

And the PSP library sucks... for me. duh There is nothing for me to play other than maybe the GTA's, the Katamari game, WTF, and Rachet and Clank. Probably a couple more too. That's not a good price for games that are probably in the 8 point range and in the 7 point range of interest at a 160 entrance fee.

LOL but if you are the individual who says there is nothing good in the library, then there is nothing good in the library.  Let me put it another way, why do people need to be so wordy, careful, and annoying when they state their opinions?  I mean the only people that can't differentiate from whether that person thinks they are stating an opinion are the people that need to take a break.

Your a troll who thinks he's a messenger, so that's why you take flak. Then apply this logic to me when I say I'm not pleased with something.  It's my opinion.  I just happen to pull no punches, which people don't like, and I get called a troll for it.  <shrug>

Sometimes it's just better to let a thread die, rather than continue a pointless tit-for-tat pissing contest.  It solves nothing, creates ill will, and generally brings down the boards on the whole.  If that's means "I lose the thread" (LOL), then that's fine.  I don't care, I really don't.

It's also worth mentioning that I've actually played many of the critically acclaimed games, unlike you.

Like what?  I've played almost every critically-acclaimed Wii game out there.

Forgive me if this is trolling, but I still don't get why you continue on as the reviews editor when you don't like Wii games.

I'm a good editor, that's why.  Despite what you may think of me based on my forums presence, I care a lot about this site, do a lot for it on a day-to-day basis, and try my hardest to help the rest of the staff bring you guys quality reviews.  At the end of the day, that's why I'm here.

You get called a troll because you go into SEVERAL threads, MAKE THE SAME POINTS AGAIN.  (This thread for example. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=25621.0), mind you the thread isn't even about Nintendo! Or their failures! WTF) Then post again may ONCE OR TWICE in the thread, saying nothing but the same thing.  Then you go into a thread like Wandering's or one of Ian's bitchfest threads and talking about how we don't understand or we're dumb! WTF

Your a troll who thinks he's a messenger, so that's why you take flak. You see my bitchfests in several threads around here, but nobody tries to kill my babies cause I don't go into every thread and start **** and half the time choose not to retort when people make their points.

Firstly, see above. Tit-for-tat is applicable cause you say the same points over and over!  TRUST ME, WE ALL KNOW _YOUR OPINION_. YOU NEED NOT CONTINUE.  I have repeated this several times.

It's also worth mentioning that I've actually played many of the critically acclaimed games, unlike you.

Like what?  I've played almost every critically-acclaimed Wii game out there.

You've "played" them. Ya considering your JUST getting rolling with Galaxy, I'd barely say you can relate to how the rest of us feel.  I'm pretty sure you JUST started something else too.

I didn't know I had to apologize for buying, and playing, a lot of games.  I'm sorry I don't suck the marrow out of each one like you do; I don't revel in their sweet juices for weeks and weeks of apparent nirvana.  So you've played through Galaxy...good for you!  My congratulations.

And BTW, you're the one that started taking baseless Sony potshots.  So when I say something about my current disenchantment with the Wii library I'm a troll, but when somebody else says that about another system they're a conquering hero.  Bwahahaha whatever man.
Title: Re: Sony US hardware announcements

People are over-reacting.  You say bad things about Nintendo games so they feel the need to say bad things about the games you like.  And then other people cheer them on because they're tired of hearing the same thing over and over again.  But all it does it cause you to come back in and say the same things over again and the cycle repeats.

Are they wrong to attack you?  Most definitely.  But that doesn't change the fact that you're staff and should be held to a higher standard than us regular folk.  Like it or not, your position at NWR makes people expect more from you.

Regarding my question before, I wasn't trying to insult your abilities as a reviews editor (or a podcast participant), so I apologize if it came across that way.  I really just want to know why you don't seek a position at a Sony or Microsoft fan site?  If the games you are truly interested in aren't on Nintendo's systems, why do you continue to care?  It doesn't make much sense for you to invest so much time and energy into something you ultimately don't believe in.

I think if you look at my posts over the past couple of weeks (this thread excluded, since it's gotten totally out of hand), I've really toned down the bitching.  I've made a concerted effort to stay above the fray.

As for writing for a Sony or Microsoft site, I could do that, but I enjoy working with the people on this site.  And I still do like Nintendo games, despite the fact that I don't always agree with their philosophies or business tactics.

I'm just surprised that everyone had or is having an issue with Silks, what's wrong with expressing your feeling toward a subject?!?! I highly doubt Silks would just be another blind Nintendo fanboy that just assimilates into the Nintendo fanboy hive mind or blind NWR Ninteno fanboy hive mind. I think everybody should understand that it's okay to have a different opinion.

If Silks wants to have a "Wii game boycott" then more power to him because it's not affecting your personal life if he does it so what do you care? But in my opinion I never really saw something that needs to be toned down from Silks.

I hate on Nintendo all the time in many threads, but Silks was continuously ripping down threads with the same subject matter over and over for like 2 weeks!
