Title: Any Multi Console Owners Picking up Madden 09?
Post by: D_Average on August 14, 2008, 12:41:14 PM
If so, which version and why? Madden 07 was one of the few games with motion controls tacked onto a normal came that I thought worked quite nicely. Having to throw your arm and press the correct receiver button in the pocket really added a layer of urgency not found in previous iterations.
Currently, I don't yet have a PS3 (waiting for the price drop), but once I do, I may still choose the Wii version despite the stellar graphics the PS3/360 offers. Anyone else?

On topic: I only have a Wii but I'm planning on getting a 360 and I will still buy Madden on Wii instead of 360 once I do.
The first Madden I ever owned was Madden 2003 on the GameCube, before that I played the Sega Sports games, and the best Genesis football game was Deion Sanders Prime Time NFL. I recently watched two friends play a game in it and it was one of the best video game football experiences I've ever had and I wasn't even playing.

I've bought Madden 09 for Xbox 360 AND Wii.

Is it good for Wii?
I love Madden 07 for my PS2. I'm not really looking to replace it, but I will if 09 is worth it.

To earlier to say which you are having more "fun" with? Also, is the option to have Chris Collinsworth commentate in the Wii version as well? That dude is spot on in his analysis. Can I get an "amen" Greg!?

I refuse to purchase another Madden title (http://www.mondaynightcrew.com/comic.html) until my 49ers are good again, so you know, I'll be picking up the 2016 version...hopefully.

Funny you say that. I just had the 93 Cowboys play the 07 49er's in Madden 07. Needless to say, the 49er's were destroyed.

Yes, but had it been the 93 Niners, you would have lost. Actually, as I recall, the Cowboys won that NFC championship game. Darn it. Hmmm...play the 95 Niners for a real challenge. That was a sick squad.

I bought it for 360, since it's identical to the PS3 version, but more importantly I have several friends that bought it day one as well.
Wii wasn't even an option for me, since I'm boycotting Wii until 2009.

No doubt, I had a lot of fun watching those classic match ups as a kid. If I wasn't so rusty w/ Madden I'd take them on, but I'll know I'll get crushed.

After spending most of the last day playing Madden 09 on the Wii I have to say that it is fantastic, the best Madden ever, and I feel sorry for the poor saps that have to play it without motion controls.

Would you say the motion controls are more accurate/responsive? Additionally, how do you like the graphics? I played Madden 07 a couple days ago for the first time in almost a year, and the visuals were atrocious, I almost gagged.

The controls are a lot better than the ones in Madden 08, which I thought took a few steps back from the ones in 07. It's the same basic controls in all three of them, but they're executed really well in 09. I haven't yet thrown the ball or made a move by accident and the motions work the first time, except hiking the ball which takes two or three tries way too often. I don't think the graphics look bad, but graphics never really bother me and I haven't played 07 or 08 in a while so I don't know how they compare.

Allll yaaaa, just walked out of Gamestop w/ Madden 09 for the Wii for a mere 35 bux! Apparently, some kid became so disgruntled with the Mii inclusion and waggle touchdown celebrations he traded the game in along with his Wii to get a PS3. That said, the spoils were all mine for the taking in conjunction with the 25% off coupon below. Definitely a worthy impulse buy as I went in the store intending to pick up Blitz 2003! The coupon is still good till 8-21, you should call around to see if any Gamespots have it in stock as a used game....unless of course you live in a remote area like Whyoming.

I do live in a remote area. The nearest GameStop and EB Games are fifty miles away, and apparently have very little in stock... or so they told me on the telephone this morning.

Oh man, any other Bears fans out there? This tip video from IGN is spot on for Madden 09....sadly.
http://blogs.ign.com/Greggy-IGN/2008/08/15/99226/
I actually started the season with my second favorite the Denver Broncos. When using the Bears you literally have half a second to get off a pass, the offensive line is that bad (on top of that, the pass is rarely accurate coming from Grossman).

Does any one know if the Celebrations can be turned off? So far, I've only figured out how to skip part of them (which results in a lower boost - LAME)

I know you can turn them off in a Play Now game, I haven't played a game in Franchise yet so I'm not sure about that. The option to turn them off is in the menu you get when you press the 2 button at the screen where you're setting things up before the game.

Thx, that worked like a charm!
However, the same Settings Menu in Franchise mode does NOT have this option. Should we not be able to turn it off, thats a huge F up on EA's part, as Franchise mode isn't exactly where the casual crowd will be hanging.
Also, does the "boost" even do anything?

Ideally there should be a way to turn it off globally by default in settings.

I think Boost does make your guy stronger. After making a touchdown I went for two points against a human opponent and my RB got a boost which caused him to break 3 tackles to get into the in-zone.

I think that may just be how the game is, a friend of mine broke 5 tackles, 3 of which happened at the same time, returning a punt against me with no boost.

If this is the way it is in franchise, thats absolutely ridiculous! Waving your arms around with your friends can be for a good laugh, but what kind of human being enjoys doing that when they're all by them self???

Seriously it is not that big of a deal. It doesn't happen all the time and it is over quickly.

It is for me, I score all the time! Just beat the Texans 66-7.

Ok...figured it out...You have to turn them off in "Play Now", and THEN you start a NEW Franchise. Sheeesh, leave it up to EA to make is a** backwards.
Good thing I'm only one game into the season.
