Title: WTF LAME. Stupid New Printer doesn't come with USB cable

I was at walmart and my mom was buying college supplies. (why should I spend my own money when I don't have to) Anyway I don't have money since couldn't find a summer job and Finical Aid money hasn't come in yet.
Anyway at walmart I picked up a $30 printer. I made sure it worked for Mac OS X and I thought everything would be fine. I install the program and do everything and than I try to connect to printer and no USB cable. I was whatever it must be blue-tooth, nope its not. It said it needs a USB cable. I looked threw my batch of extra USB cables and NOTHING fits.
On the fine print it says on the box 'needs usb cable' but it doesn't specify what kind. Tedious. Its a little square hole not just a regular USB hole . So now I have to go back to the store and find a cable that will fit this.
By the way the printer is Canon Pixma iP2600 Special edition. For college papers and resumes and random stuff I print out it will be fine. I didn't have anything for spring semester and it was tedious to walk 4 blocks to go to the library to print everything.
i know this is a cheap printer, but seriously it should have all the parts, I much rather have a USB cable than stupid 'print shop deluxe program' that i wont' use.

They all do that these days. Cheap inkjet printers are loss leaders for ink cartridges and USB cables. The good news is they all use the same cables, at least.

Yeah this has been happening for a while now, I agree though, it is a bunch of crap. I guess it *should* work in the favor of the consumer because you could either buy a cheap USB cable or use one that you already have, but it winds up being a big hassle for most people requiring a second trip to the store.

There's usually a list of things on the side of the box that mentions WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE.

Exactly. Why force people to buy a new USB cable every time they purchase a new printer? My old one works just fine, thank you. Leave it out of the box and save me $5.

i got the cables at a discount electronic store for $2.99 so thats cool.
I could understand no ink in it, but the cable is really tedious. And the box the print that says needs a USB cable is like a 2 font size.

There's usually a list of things on the side of the box that mentions WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE.
Some stores even have a sign "Got your USB cable? Paper? Ink?"
Yeah, it's a total FAIL on the part of the store for not trying to cash in when that's the whole point of not including the cable.

I think the trend now and for the past few years is to not include a USB cable with the printer. I don't recall the laser printer we have at the office, which cost nearly 1,000.00, having a USB cable come with it.

When I bought my printer a few years back, it didn't have a cable either. There'd really be no point in selling the cables anyway, if they came with them. It's still a fucking ripoff, though.

The last USB printer I had (some $50 HP that looked like it should have been hooked up to a Mac, hehe) also was without a cable. I didn't notice this omission mentioned on the box either, but luckily had plenty of spare cables (including the kind with a smaller plug on one end, as it seems you are speaking of).
My current printer DID come with a USB cable, but I hooked it up Ethernet instead. It took quite a while to find an affordable all-in-one that would not only do network printing, but also network scanning. It's been a great little machine thus far.

I think they mostly come without USB cables, and I don't understand why.
Luckily, my DSL modem had come with both an ethernet and USB cable, and I hadn't used the latter. Wouldn't you know it, it was just what the printer needed. So it all worked out quite well.
And that's why you always keep spare cables.

Yeah I think thats just a thing now. Can be inconvenient but not much you can do
