Title: Wednesday-aton! aka Nintendo's E3'08 Developer Roundtable
Post by: stevey on July 16, 2008, 08:56:23 PM
Word is there a huge Nintendo key developers conference about to start. The press is checking in at 5:30 p.m (PST), will start at 6:00pm, and end at 7:30 p.m.(PST)

I doubt they can talk about wii music and sport 2 for over an hour so anyone want to guess who Nintendo regards as their KEY developers (EAD, Retro, Sega) and what game they're bring...

PS Sakurai is rumor to be there too :(

Live updates here (http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12303) and here (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/liveblog-from-nintendos-2008-e3-developer-roundtable/)

Ahaha, I'll believe it when I see it. Every year these bs megaton announcements, while fun, end in disappointment. Was it '06 where there was that internet video / code thing that had everyone waiting for a e3-aton announcment at a certain time?

It's funny because it's been almost an hour and they haven't talked about Wii Music at all.

I don't know what's worse, Nintendo showing crappy games or the journalists there not calling them out on it, instead waiting to write some mean comments in their blog that 3 people will read.

The new info so far

Quote
6:14 [AC] Diving into the "enhanced user creativity." This time you can edit not just the front of your shirt, but also the back and each sleeve. OMG MEGATON! Seriously, editing with the Wii Remote looks pretty neat

6:25 PM: Nintendo can create new content or events and can add it to the game via DLC.

Seasons are still inverted for those in the southern hemisphere. We didn't even know this was a problem!

7:08 The demo [wii music] has "only" 26 of the 60+ instruments that will be in the final game. when 26 insturments gets an "only," that's pretty impressive.

7:15 You can change the arrangement, the tempo, and record it all to a music video to share with your friends on WiiConnect24. Some 5-8 year old children of the development staff came in to try the game. "Children of that age could not pull themselves away from this game," says Miyamoto. They also can't drag themselves away from Barney the Dinosaur...

7:17 Miyamoto thinks that half of an elementary school music class could be dvoted to this. Mothers can also jump in to the game easily. And those in between, we wonder?

Southern Hemisphere gets raped in the ass by Animal Crossing again. Nintendo NEEDS to learn not everyone has a white christmas. We have sweaty chirstmas' in Oz.

Pricks.

And they couldn't fix the problem of online ending for everyone when one person drops out? That's pretty poor, I can't think of any other online game where this is a problem.

Someone has the temerity to ask if this is really more of a musical toy than a game. HOW DARE HE! Miyamoto says the questioner is right, and "that's why it's more interesting than a video game." The audience laughs and applauds at this verbal bitchslap.

Goddamn it Nintendo.

Staff from Wave Race 64 are working on the waterskiing game from Wii Sports Resort. Yeguchi was the director of that game. The team is going to create a game that "surpasses Wave Race," according to Yeguchi.
Ok now that is kickass

7:26 The 50 songs in the game will include a wide variety of public domain songs, but also licensed music, says Miyamoto. They're "not really thinking" about digital distribution of song downloads, instead focusing on using WiiConnect24 to share music videos.

7:37 Miyamoto and Yeguchi address a question about "core gamers" and whether or not these games will appeal to them. In a nutshell, they respond that they hope anyone will enjoy these games, and that a "core gamer" is someone that enjoys games, regardless of genre, as long as they're good.

7:38 In response to a question about whether or not a new Pikmin is in the works, Miyamoto says he'll announced the new game when he's ready. Apparently he's ready now. "We're making Pikmin," the translator says. OMG MEGATONZ!

Wasn't that already confirmed along with New Super Mario Bros 2 this morning in Miyamoto's IGN interview?

Pikmin confirmed has to be a lie because Nintendo has abandoned traditional gamers.

Miyamoto confirmed that Nintendo is making a storage solution and he confirmed that they're making Pikmin 3. He singlehandedly gave me what I wanted from E3. That is just like him, being so completely amazing all the time.

I don't remember exactly where, but there was an interview where he said that they weren't ready to announce anything specific but they were working on a solution.

If Nintendo had shown everything Miyamoto hinted at in interviews in the press conference nobody except Ian would be complaining.

I don't care if it's called wave race. I'm just happy that it's being made.

Miyamoto can hint at things that are nowhere near a presentable state. To show something at E3 they need to get some part of the game running in a fashion that's representative of the full game or at least create a mockup using 3d software (which usually gets them flamed).

That is my best guess as to why those games weren't shown, they are not in presentable shape. Now the reason behind not showing Kid Icarus is odd, but perhaps the developer felt it wasn't quite ready to debut (From most accounts the game is real, even Miyamoto hinted at it). Another reason could be that the developer behind Kid Icarus didn't want the game shown at E3 because of the more casual nature of the conference.

Did he explicitely point at KI or did he just say that some old franchise is coming back and people took it to mean KI?

Except that Nintendo NEVER shows up for the Tokyo Game Show.

I hope they prove this fact wrong this year.

They won't do TGS, they'll have their own show like they did last year sometime in the next couple months. I doubt we'll see anything for this year besides maybe a release date for Disaster, though.
