Title: Ngamer unveils Punch Out and Animal Crossing for Wii(?)

The latest issue of NGamer reveals information from a secretive source about Animal Crossing Wii and a new installment of Punch-Out!!

Those who purchased last month's issue of NGamer will remember that the British publication teased at the revelation of a new project from Nintendo's internal development teams. We received the latest issue of NGamer this morning, and it offers up some very juicy information indeed. Here's a snippet from their feature about E3 2008...

"And if all goes to plan (and our sources haven't played a mean trick on us), that hands-on coverage will be of Animal Crossing and Punch-Out!! Wii, aka Nintendo's great hopes for 2008."

The article goes on to say that Animal Crossing Wii has been finished for a while, and though it isn't an MMO as suggested by rumours earlier this year, it features heavy use of Wi-Fi sharing (and presumably multiplayer, as in Wild World).

As for Punch-Out!! Wii, NGamer claim that Balance Board implementation is on the cards for dodging and weaving, in addition to Wii Remote and Nunchuk controlled punching (which goes without saying) in the style of Wii Sports Boxing and Rhythm Boxing, which was included as a minigame in Wii Fit.

Stick with N-Europe for E3 next week for quality news and coverage from Nintendo's highly anticipated conference.

NO! It has to be FAKE!

I've got the issue in my hands now, so I can verify that this information is in the magazine. It's scheduled to hit the newstands after the Nintendo press event (subscribers get it early), so I'm not sure whether that factored into them letting this loose a bit. They also cover themselves with the "if it all goes to plan (and our sources haven't played a mean trick on us)" line.

Animal Crossing shouldn't be an MMO. But it should be Multiplayer Online, just not "Massively." AC should be like... Diablo multiplayer X 2?

MMOs need to be hosted server side, and I doubt Nintendo is planning to do that.

I'm fine with multiplayer, so long as it's seamless and not like the DS multiplayer where you had to leave your DS on for others to visit your town.

Sure, others being able to enter and subsequently steals things or tamper with your town while you're not there is a fine idea.

Would AC be populated by Mii's?

If so, WELCOME TO REGGIE TOWN

I am surprised that the thread has gone on for this long (in a relative since) and no one is like OMG!!! Punch-Out!!!!!! yet.

OMG!!! Punch-Out!!!!!!

You've gotta bet that EA's going to be pissed at however many hundred thousand sales of Facebreaker on the Wii this is going to cost them.

OMG!!! Punch-Out!!!!! Just the way it should be, too!

Facebreaker looks like ****. I was really hoping for something more along the lines of Ready 2 Rumble from it.

That line is the only thing sparing you from writing a news post.

Animal Crossing doesn't need to be a WOW killer, it just needs to have things to spice things up. Festivals are too few and far between, an ability to date other animals, maybe have oldschool games come back, but now you can play multiplayer online.

I am a fan of the series but the DS game did NOTHING to advance it outside of a primitive online structure.

The game needs a full overhall to keep it relevant, sure its addicting game it should at LEAST Try to do things different and new.

Punch-Out seems like a cool idea, the problem is after Ready2Rumble and FaceBreaker the idea of a cartoony boxing game is not that fresh and has been done before. If they can get the boxing controls to be amazing that can justify its existence.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about Animal Crossing Wii. However, knowing Nintendo I'm not expecting anything revolutionary out of the game. That way, I can be impressed or not be disappointed when the final game hits stands.

As for Punch-out!!, while I agree that cartoony boxing games have already been done what makes Punch-out so great is the gameplay, and how intimidating the challengers were.

That's something none of these fighting games have been able to replicate. The NES game was the first game that truly intimidated me thanks to how freaky and hard the fighters were. But despite the challenge the whole thing was rather simple; dodge or block attacks and wait for the right moment to strike.

It was so easy, yet in the heat of battle it was just as easy to forget and freak out.

After all, people say there's an easy way of beating Mike Tyson, but the fact is that you mess you and you die.

If Punch-out Wii is able to replicate this along with rock solid controls that do boxing RIGHT then the wait has been worth it.

dont get wrong. Punch-out is great im just saying its impact won't be as big because of those cloned games had such similar style it might not stand out so much. Sort of new call of duty might be great but with so many WW II shooters out , its hard to care anymore even if its brandname game.

I hope animal crossing is not updated game (mario lost levels), but real sequel (mario 3). You never know with nintendo but i have hope.

Well the thing is there isn't a lot of boxing games so there's a lot of breathing room for a Punch Out game. On the Wii theres only Wii Sport's Boxing, Facebreaker, Victorious Boxers Revolution (which got panned by some reviews) and Don King's Prizefighter (Which got bad reviews on the 360). While that may sound congested it's not that bad since a lot of people will be craving for a punchout game anyways.

I don't want Punch-Out to be a boxing game.  I want it to be a pattern and rhythm game like the original.  I also don't want it to use the boxing controls from Rhythm Boxing.  The punching controls are fine but the dodging is sketchy.  When I know I'm doing the exact dodge motion it doesn't register.  Which is frustrating.  Let's keep dodging to the the direction controls, please.

On AC, after the DS one I don't think I get another that is the same.

To Me Punch Out was never a boxing game.  But a puzzle and rhythm game with a boxing theme.

So as long as Nintendo is able to keep that gameplay intact then I think Punch Out and Face Breakers can co-exist...but Punch Out is going to be so much better.  Specially if you can add that addictive game play, and then a fun multiplayer/online mode.

For punch out, if they have any sort of online multiplayer, I hope they have create a boxer or something along those lines to make our character unique.  Hell, maybe even putting your mii's face on the boxer's body.

As long as you can easily communicate with your friends on animal crossing I'll be perfectly happy.

I have reason to believe Animal Crossing will be quite similar to the DS game (and, subsequently quite similar to those that came before the DS game).  My one hope is that I can access my Virtual Console games from inside my Animal Crossing house, with each of their respective systems featured.

What reason is that? Anything more substantial than pure speculation?

The ability to play as King Hippo would make it even betra.

Now that PO has been dormant for so long it needs to go in a different direction so it doesn't get all stale; it should be made into a squad-based FPS with stealth or something. You could like switch out of your punching gloves and use a stun gun or whatever.

Punch-Out's triumphant return to the first-person perspective!

Not much more than pure speculation, no.

it was said above, but i wanted to add in mine.

i want animal crossing to take the cool stuff from the game cube (like playing video games) and run with it. basically animal crossing = sony @ home. so i can go to your 'house' and see your furnature, but also play some VC games (admittedly probably just NES and SNES ones...) maybe swap pokemon (why not?) banish Mii's to someone else's Wii, things like that.

i do like the exlporation idea i heard above. a more sofisticated archeology mini game would be much appreciated.

oh, and if you want to sell the game even faster than they will, put in wii sports so we can play against each other online, with animals.

seriously.

Bullseye.  I don't trust anyone to make a decent Punch-Out game.  It's a long dormant series made by a more obscure Nintendo team.  Odds are whoever is working on it will not have been involved with the earlier games and thus doens't quite get it.

I really don't like Wii Boxing.  I find it really hard to control and Punch-Out needs perfect controls.
