Title: High Voltage Plans to Deliver Hardcore FPS The Conduit for Wii
Post by: Les Thomas on June 13, 2008, 05:54:32 PM
"Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform," says High Voltage, "With The Conduit, we intend to prove that theory wrong."

The Conduit is a first-person shooter that promises to provide "some of the best visuals seen to date on Nintendo's Wii."  Using the Quantum 3 Gaming Engine technology, High Voltage Software will mix fast and fluid gameplay with advanced graphics for a "true next-generation gaming platform."  The shooter will also sport an online multiplayer function.  High Voltage is already claiming that their proprietary engine supports such features as real-time water reflection and different texture compositions such as gloss and bump mapping.

"Conduit was especially designed for the Nintendo Wii," says Matt Corso, Creative Director at High Voltage, "From the weapons to armory and graphics, we tailored everything to the Wii which sets this game play apart from anything else on the market right now."  Adds founder and CEO Kerry J. Ganofsky, "We've invested heavily in our technology to make certain that potential is realized with The Conduit."

You play as Secret Service Agent Ford, mastering each of your various weapons, to defeat terrifying aliens (sporting advanced AI) and the conspiracy surrounding the strange events.  There is also an "All Seeing Eye" function that you will use to solve puzzles and defeat certain enemies.  High Voltage will search for the right publisher to put this "high potential" hardcore shooter on Wii by Q1 2009.

"Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics," said Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage. "With The Conduit, we intend to prove that theory wrong by providing gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced."

High Voltage Software announces new first-person shooter for the Wii

Hoffman Estates, IL – June 10, 2008 - High Voltage Software, Inc., one of the world's largest independent developers, today officially announced The Conduit, a stunning first-person action shooter that promises to provide some of the best visuals seen to date on Nintendo's Wii gaming console, for Q1 2009 release.

Using their proprietary Quantum 3 Game Engine technology, the team at High Voltage Software is fusing fast and fluid gameplay with an advanced set of visuals intended to squarely establish the Wii as a true next-generation gaming platform. The first-person shooter boasts a competitive online multiplayer component and a thrilling single-player campaign. Advanced graphical features include dynamic environment mapping, interactive water with real-time reflection, and four-stage texture composition including gloss, diffuse, and bump mapping.

"Too many Wii owners have been told that the Wii is a casual platform with no room for serious games or top-tier graphics," said Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software. "With The Conduit, we intend to prove that theory wrong by providing gamers with the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced."

Featuring terrifying alien creatures, an advanced Artificial Intelligence System, and a rich, conspiracy-laden story, The Conduit has more than a pretty face. "The Wii has tremendous potential," said Kerry J. Ganofsky, CEO and founder of High Voltage Software. "We've invested heavily in our technology to make certain that potential is realized with The Conduit."

The Conduit's control scheme was carefully designed from the ground up with the Wii in mind, as were each of the weapons in the extensive armory, providing gameplay not possible on other platforms. As Secret Service Agent Ford, you must learn to master each of these weapons as well as the special "All Seeing Eye" device to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and unravel the game's mysteries.

"Conduit was especially designed for the Nintendo Wii" states Matt Corso, Creative Director at High Voltage Software. "From the weapons to armory and graphics, we tailored everything to the Wii which sets this game play apart from anything else on the market right now."

Publisher excitement and interest in The Conduit has been overwhelming. High Voltage Software will continue to search for the perfect partner to ensure The Conduit’s success.

The Conduit is tentatively scheduled for release in Q1 2009 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

They better damn well advertise this thing or they'll end up "proving" that hardcore games don't sell on the Wii.

Considering that the Wii's potential for FPSs was a big reason for my excitement for the console in the first place, I don't mind being pandered to in this case.

Not even a hands-on demo on Youtube?  You can do better than that, Thigh Voltage.

Shush.  It might be fun even though it's a lot uglier than they seem to think. D:

Lets see if they can back up all that talk.  I hope so.  Also they better work hard on the online component.

They are trying their best, which is more than you can say for a lot of other developers.

Maybe next time they could hire Retro's former concept artist.

god you guys just can you? Geez back before Wii launched everyone was saying **** "graphics don't matter" and "gameplay over graphics" and now a game that is trying to push the Wii is coming along and every talks **** on it. The Wii is not going to pull off 360 graphics so stop pretending that is what they are doing here. What they are doing is giving us a game that does not look like PS2/late DC graphics, that is a lot better than most of the crap on Wii at the moment.

And who gives a **** about Art style damn, Okami comes out and now if something tries to have non-cartoony graphics all of a sudden it's ugly.

Rat, people are putting down this game's graphics because in spite of the devs' bragging, there are much prettier games on the Wii.

I think the game looks good, maybe not stunning but good so frankly I have no idea what people are whining about.

I would like to see NWR line up an interview with this company.

Most of the interviews we do come from events.  I don't know that they will be at E3 Media and Business Summit, but if we talk to them it will be there, July 11th - 13th.

you guys are blind then. It looks easily better than any game I have seen on the Wii. What game are you talking about that looks better? All I am saying is pre-launch everyone was bragging how RE4 graphics on Cube was good enough and if Wii was better than that it would be fine by them. So far this game looks at least on par with that so no I don't get the hate.

Graphics don't matter but it's nice to have good ones. They are hyping up these graphics and, while I do think they're good, I don't think they live up to all the talk.

Rat, people are putting down this game's graphics because in spite of the devs' bragging, there are much prettier games on the Wii.

The only prettier games are from Nintendo and Capcom. That automatically puts High Voltage Software in prestigious company, dont'cha think?

Some of the screens are certainly better than others.  But some of them are just downright ugly.  I think they need to work on their lighting.

Ya, there is something definitely wrong with the lighting. I'd like to see it in motion first, but from the screens some of the textures come off as extremely bright, while others come off flat.

But they do look better than most other non-Nintendo games though and that means they are putting in more effort than everybody else but Nintendo. The screens do not look half as good as the videos did, so maybe you should watch the videos first.
