Title: Does anyone order beer online??
Post by: Pale on June 12, 2008, 01:24:01 PM
So I've become addicted to some more expensive beers as of late. I have a store locally that I can buy them at, but it's a little pricey and I'm looking for a more affordable alternative. Does anyone shop for beer online and have any stores to recommend?
For those interested, the two beers I'm looking for are...
Rochefort 10 (~ $11 per bottle at my store) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort_Brewery (http://twitpic.com/img/25hq-ceea9719a37376fc00037da1aaef0e25.48515a93.jpg)
Delirium Tremens, Nocturnum, or Noel (~ $5-$6 per bottle at my store) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium_Tremens_(beer) (http://twitpic.com/img/25ho-e8678def0f677f893175e2118adaf2eb.48515a76.jpg)

Beers of the World on Winton Rd? I heard that place was pretty good, never did make it over there though when I lived in Rochester.
I have a guy at work that buys wine online and says he gets good stuff pretty cheap. Apparently he and his wife are also a part of their monthly wine group which is a subscription service that charges him x amount a month and sends him a few new wines to try every month (one per week I believe). IIRC he said that the site has a similar program with beers, I'll see what it is tomorrow as he is out sick today.

Cool. Yeah, beers of the world is where I go now. It has an awesome selection but from what I've read their prices are a bit high. Like that rochefort 10 is supposed to go for around 6-8 a bottle.

They have a name for that kind of behavior. You get to go to little group meetings too!
I always wondered how they verify age online for selling booze.

I think they verify if when you sign for the package.

I've always wanted to buy beer online. If you figure it out, please post it here!
Also, have you tried just buying a keg and keggerator combo? A keggerator is a man's best friend and a wallet's booty-call. It's so much cheaper in the long run to just buy a keggerator and buy kegs. If you know what your doing (it's not hard), you can keep your beer as fresh as the day you tapped it. You can either buy a self-contained unit, or turn an old refrigerator into a keggerator with a DIY package (best way to do it in my opinion, cuz then you have a freezer for all your mugs).
On top of that, you can almost always ask your local liquor store to order you a keg from your favorite brewery. It'll cost you about 150 to do so, but how many beers are in a keg again? My point exactly.
Plus, nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats a draft beer. Bottles be damned.

Having a keggerator in my house would be a dangerous proposition. Draft beers just go down so smooth, I think I'd become a drunk.

I don't believe they can make kegs of the beers I like...
The rochefort 10 is brewed by 15 monks in a monastery in Belgium...

Just read that wikipedia. That beer sounds deliciously secretive.

I want a spout on my computer and they magically send the beer through the internet. Hell this technology would be cool for any beverage. Just chocolate milk alone would be million dollar invention. :)
My criteria for beer is the alcohol content:price ratio. I think it's safe to say I'm not in Rochefort 10's target demo.
