Title: My New Playlist

So I've thought long and hard about my favorite songs until I reallized that I need quite a bit more favorite songs, because whenever I get any, I listen to it nonstop and get sick of it really quickly. For example, remeber She Hates Me by Puddle of Mudd? I already am sick of that. And it's not even on my playlist of favorite songs. So, without further ado, here is my playlist:

Yes, the first song is the theme from Wildboyz, but aside from that, it's a really really cool song. Skip to about 1:30, and that's when it actually starts really. I found the lyrics and it is aparently about a pizza shop.
"We're gonna bake your mother****ing pizza tonight!"
The song is called The Age of Pamparius by Turbonegro. Also, aparently Pamparius was a pizza shop.

I never heard of Dope before. Good song. I'll have to check them out.
Too much System of a Down. Not that they're bad, but there are so many awesome songs by other bands is all I'm saying. Maybe some old school stuff (not Metallica, at least not Enter Sandman). Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, NIN, etc...
There's another band that you may not know called 'Drown'. They only put out one album but it rocks.
My playlist would have some 80s mixed in. Madonna, Tears For Fears, The Police, The Cars, Genesis, and so on. But that's showing my age, huh? And more Industrial stuff like Ministry and Chemlab and My Sister Machine Gun.

Yeah... Problem is, old school doesn't quite work for me, because I'm not all that old, if you've checked out my profile. Not that old school is bad, but I don't know much good old school, because it wasn't my time. The only old school I know are the songs from Guitar Hero 3.
Well, I'm feeling lazy right now, but If I'm on tomorrow, I will definitely check out the music you mentioned. Thanks.

The Metro is actually my favorite SoaD song, too bad it's a cover. My Chemical Romance = epil fail. Enter Sandman? That would have been on my playlist 17 years ago, it's a classic, but I never listen to it intentionally.

That's a problem with me as well. This is why I don't walk around with an MP3 player or listen to CDs in the car. The radio may not always play songs I like but at least I don't know what's coming. Though many of my favourite songs have been ruined by radio airplay as well. Rock 101 here in Vancouver has pretty much completely ruined The Police for me, and they were once one of my favourite bands.

Ironically I'm more familiar with music before my time than music of my time. I'm under 30 yet my knowledge of music of the last ten years is really weak. Somewhere in the late half of the 90's it seemed more and more current music was being released that I could not stand. So I don't really follow it anymore so if it ever improves I guess I'll be the last to know. I think it's just passed me by. I cannot understand at all what anyone would like in today's music. I do not get it. It's like I can't pick out the melody in all but like two songs a year.
But "it wasn't my time" is a lame ass excuse. Stuff like that is why adults don't respect the opinions of teenagers - no perspective. Looking into the past and familiarizing yourself with older bands will introduce you to all sorts of great music. I did that around your age and it was awesome. The old stuff was all new to me so it was like 40 years of music being released in the span of two years. I wish somehow I could do that again because so much stuff was new to me. These days I'm always trying to find some old act that I missed and it's always a lot of fun. But the pickings have gotten slim over time. The sheer scope of what originally was unfamiliar to me is something that could only be replaced if I was in a coma or trapped on a desert island for decades.
And these days one has the internet to use as a research tool. I had no such luxury at 15. To be able to read up on a band on AllMusic.com and then look for the music video on YouTube would have been amazing.
Short playlist, too. That's like what? One album worth of stuff?

I completely agree with you. It's so rare for me to get into newer artist these days. I feel like my problem is i don't have the time i did as a kid to search for something i might like. For some people its as easy as turning on the radio but it's not for me. There's only two rock stations here, one is strictly "classic rock" like Hendrix/Zepplin/Cream and the other plays the same tired mid 80s-90s rock with some classic stuff in between. Its rare they play anything "new" and by new i mean a single for an album thats been out for months from a band thats getting old.
There used to be this one colllege station i could just barely get reception from that had a healthy and diverse play list EVERY DAY, not U2/Nirvana/Audioslave/The Who/Alice in Chains/Queen/Newest Single/REPEAT. I hate that **** honestly.
Bloc Party is a band i discovered thru a friend, and it makes me sad that if it wasn't by chance i wouldnt of never heard those guys. They're awesome yet you don't hear that **** on the radio around here. Its why i giave up on the radio years ago honestly (that and the rock station changed formats after Howard Stern left for Serius Radio, then went back to rock and sucked even worse than before). The only time i listen to the radio is in the shower, and thats only cuz the cd player broke.
The easiest way for me to get into new bands is to stay informed on more recent bands i do like and see what kinda stuff their into and hope its good. Thats how i got into older stuff well, i'd go to the bands i liked when i was just getting into music and see who their influences were and i got opened up to some awesome artists

Rhianna was the newest artist I got into, but since then I haven't even gone looking for new stuff. Something similar happened to us a while back. We only have 2 "top 40" stations and the rest are all oldies or country. I stay away form the Christian radio. We had these two stations going head to head, both on the 99.1-99.9 range so it was easy to flip from one to the other. Then the 99.1 station, the one I liked the most, changed owners and became an all 80's pop station. Now I like 80's pop but I like to hear new stuff also. So I was stuck with just the 1 station. They then decided with their competition out of the way, they would follow suit and began playing more 80's music and less new music. They even went so far as to have a 80's 2 hour set and a 2 hour 90's set, 4 hours of nothing but old music, which dominated the time slots I had to listen to music.
Then the other station came back a year ago, full force and better than ever, but now instead of rock they were strictly Hip-Hop, Pop, and a little top 40 to mix it up. Well I like Hip-Hop a lot more than rock so no big deal, except they were losing money and had to change frequencies to 94.3 a long ways away from the other station and a lot less powerful so the reception is not that good anymore. But I discovered I-pod/I-Tunes a couple years ago and have had no reason to look back ever since.

I was so inspired by your post, I decided to listen to the radio yesterday. I lasted about a minute and a half before I turned it off in disgust and put on a Kings of Leon CD instead.

The radio is ****. There's only 1 "rock" station left around here (not counting classic), and all they play is Linkin Park, Offspring, and whatever else is the record studios ask them to play. I need to get a Sirius radio.

lol my favorite post of the day. like i said before, i only listen to the radio in the shower and usually it's not really set high enough for me to hear over the water. There are times when they'll to their rock-blocks with some band i cant stand and i'll reach my arm out to turn the crap off.
The radio in the car is worse cuz it makes me angry. Ever since i got my ipod i havent had to bother with it since if the ipod died i had a ton of mp3 cd's ready to go with all sorts of stuff on em. There have been a few times when i took my cd's out of my car for whatever reason then got stuck with listening to the radio and i find myself jumping from station to station non-stop because nothing i ever like is on. I like all types of music but i usually listen to rock genres, but if i'm stuck with the radio i dont mind changing over to hip-hop stations or classical stations or those crazy stations that go from jazz to 80s. I just want something to listen to but all the good stations (that diversify their playlist) end up having a weak signal and i get stuck with only the "good" stations and the same 5 songs over and over again. I just end up humming or singing to myself a song i do like cuz my hand gets tired from reaching over to hit the seek button.

The honest truth with radios is the average moron doesn't notice. They don't mind hearing the same five songs again and again. I never EVER want to hear Bohemian Rhapsody or You Shook Me All Night Long again. I used to love those songs but they're overplayed so now I hate them. The radio isn't played at my work but my brothers have had a couple different jobs over the years where the radio is on all day locked into the same station. And it's the same songs every day and not only does no one seem to care but they actually rock out to the same stuff every day like they heard it for the first time. I'll be in my car while the DJ is taking requests and some jerk will call in "Yeah I've got to hear Takin' Care of Business." They play that song EVERY SINGLE DAY and this guy probably already has it on vinyl or something and yet he requests it. Very rarely during request blocks on radios do obscure songs get requested. It's usually the same stuff the station plays every day. Hell they don't even have to be obscure songs. Many bands get relegated to a handful of songs while many of their legitimate hits are ignored. The Beatles have like a hundred huge hits and yet I never hear I Want To Hold Your Hand on my local classic rock station but A Day in the Life is POUNDED through my skull. The least they can do is play ALL the big hits by an artist. That alone would improve the variety of radio playlists.
Here in Canada we get the bonus of the Canadian Content Law that forces radio stations to play a certain amount of Canadian music. So you better hope you like The Tragically Hip, The Guess Who and Rush because you're going to hear a lot of them. By the way I completely hate those bands almost entirely because of how overexposed they are. In fact I'm convinced the only reason The Hip are even popular is because they are Canadian and thus people feel they have to like them to be patriotic or anti-American or something. People tend to be sheep at the best of times and I think having certain Canadian bands getting endless airplay because of legislation gives people the impression that they're a major band and that they have to like them. A lot of people tend to adapt their tastes to what's popular. I'm sure everyone knows at least one person that seems to ONLY like current trends and fads and seemingly has no independent taste of their own.

At my old job, we complained to a radio station about the repetition. This wasn't even a top 40 station, but we'd hear repeats every hour (I had the misfortune of working there when La Vida Loca came out). They just told us that the station's schedule was intended for people driving, not people listening to the same station all day.
I used to keep my car radio tuned to a classic rock station. They should have a playlist that numbers in the tens of thousands, but it's more like a few hundred. For a while, we had a second classic rock station in town, and occasionally I would not like a song playing on one and switch to the other only to find the same song playing! The odds against that should have been enormous, but I think it demonstrates Ian's point pretty well.

Wow well my music interests are much different than you guys, for some reason I like industrial bands more than anything my favorite being KMFDM while saying that my taste in music is very eclectic.I also tend to like Iron Maiden, Manowar, The Misfits, Combichrist(somewhat),Rhapsody(way superior to dragonforce),Freezepop(thanks to rockband),Bang Camaro(thanks to rockband), The Addicts(are amazing live),Stray Cats

I don't know Flames, I think we can agree on most of your listening pleasure.
I saw KMFDM in Cleveland a few years back. A band called Dink opened for them. Dink sucked but KMFDM was awesome. But they played the latest album, not many of their classics. I would have loved to of heard 'Go To Hell'. But the best concert was Gravity Kills. They kicked ass, and broke out their rendetion of Personal Jesus before the album with it came out. Well, seeing Ministry at Lalapalooza 92 was a high point, too. Al Jourgensen came out wearing a huge George Bush Sr head with caberet girls high kicking in the back, fuckin awesome ****.

awesome list right here. I completely agree with the Rhapsody statement. I was actually thinking of them yesterday and i need to download their albums. I only had Legendary Tales and a few tracks from the album right after it that a friend burned for me, but over the years they got really scratched and i just threw them out cuz its unlistenable. Their music is 1000x better and more epic than Dragonforce, and not as cheesy either.

Bands I like are harder to figure out, I like Cake, Offspring, KISS, Def Leppard, Garbage, No Doubt, some Metalica, Linkin Park, and a few random otheres. My favorite music is electronic though, mostly Techno, House, Rave, Dance, Electroncia, **** like that. I also like KMFDM a lot. It's easier to list the bands I hate than the ones I like though.
Right now I am into Nelly Furtado and Rhianna, but the one I was thinking of the Canadian, she sings that Girlfriend song, and Skaterboy. I hated her when she first came out cuz she reminded me of Alanis Morrisette and I thought she was just a rip off. Then I listened to her music and liked it.

Unfortunately, KMFDM hasn't been good since Adios came out in 1999. Everything since then--except for the Raymond Watts songs--has been pretty bad. (Which is odd, because I don't really like Pig at all.) However, all their albums between Money and Adios (especially Nihil) were awesome.
Any KMFDM fans familiar with Angelspit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelspit)? They're an Aussie Industrial band that sounds like what I wish KMFDM evolved into.
