Title: Pokémon Platinum Announced by Nintendo
Post by: Nick DiMola on May 15, 2008, 06:40:43 AM
The Pokémon Yellow of Pearl and Diamond has been revealed by Nintendo.

Nintendo of Japan published a website today proclaiming the existence of a new entry into the Pokémon franchise. Though a new release, the game is said to be an expansion of sorts to the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games released on the DS last year.

This third game is nothing new for the series.  Pokémon Yellow was released after Pokémon Red and Blue, Pokémon Crystal was released after Pokémon Gold and Sliver, and Pokémon Emerald was released after Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Currently Nintendo World Report is seeking further details on the game and will be posting an update to the story later today.

Do these third versions stilll sell?  Haven't Pokemon fans figured this scam out yet?  Maybe there's a large chunk of people who intentionally wait for the third version and don't buy the original and another chunk that only buy the original.  But the two groups are large enough that it appears that people are buying both.

Nah, I'm giving people too much credit there. ;)

The rules of gaming are simple.  Never buy a Pokemon or Metal Gear Solid game on day one because a better version will ALWAYS come out within a year.

Yeah, I never buy a Pokemon game because when it's older it probably gets replaced any second now...

What about Street Fighter? And Final Fantasy XII International Edition?

It's probably just me, but it's a shame that Crystal was used for G/S as it would go better along side Diamond and Pearl than Platinum.

Haha, that is exactly right. Platinum obviously would've fit better with Gold and Silver as well. Good thing they aren't all on the same system or else that would probably cause some major confusion.

I never finished Diamond, and I don't intend to play it any time soon; last time I checked it still had good trade-in value at GameStop so depending on what improvements this one includes I may trade in Diamond and pick this one up down the line.

GameFreak needs to churn this out so they can get to work on a game that matters: Drill Dozer 2!

Pokémon Plutonium... gotta catch 'em all.

How much more profit does GameFreak need so that it can create new and original titles. They could at least make Drill Dozer 2 just like Bill is suggesting.

It looks like the major changes relate to the Legendary pokemon.  Giratina gets a new form.

I think that hedgehog gets something... obviously if I knew it all we'd have a fully updated story.

Also, forget Drill Dozer.  Pulseman 2!

So how is that going to work with the Diamond and Pearl people online, since I doubt the code for it is in those games as someone would have hacked it by now? Will Platinum people only be able to play against others with the game, or will this new Giratina simply appear as the old one to them?

No clue about the online bit.  Could be very interesting.

It might be like playing Red/Blue against Gold/Silver.  The Gold/Silver could only have pokemon and moves in Red/Blue.

Hopefully it includes something that makes IVs redundant.

Shut up Ian.

Shouldn't you be training your pokemon or something?
