Digg Radio Free Nintendo

Jon, James, Greg, and Jonny kick things off in New Business with Mario Kart Wii, Ninja Gaiden DS, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, online Brawl, Team Fortress 2, and more.  I hope you like games!

Then, we catch up on your emails to answer questions about iTunes, Mario 3 e-Reader levels, Greg's irresistibility, and the best Virtual Console games to play with your girlfriend.  Also, an innocent question about Metroid throws Jonny (and the others) into a long rant about where the series should go next.  Don't miss it!

Nice episode guys. I loved the idea about the Mario 3 e-Reader cards! Nintendo if you can see this, listen to your fans we want a re-release of the Mario 3 e-Reader cards in a coherent WiiWare or VC release!

I'll offer Jonny endless hours of free man-love if he promises not to eat/chew his tongue during the show anymore.

Okay, I can do that.  It was a really busy evening and I didn't have much time to eat before this recording.  I'll try to avoid it in the future.

cool show guys. BTW, Phantasy Star 4 was on Genesis, it was the only one I ever owned so I am sure of that. I am waiting for it to come out to grab all three of them at once and play them in order.

If you're going to do that you should wait until they release the original Phantasy Star for the Master System on the VC and play all 4.

Good show guys!  I heard Greg mention that he thought the blue shells were less frequent in MK64.  This past week I've been playing 64 and DD to get my skills up, and after going through 2 GP's on 150cc in 64 and placing first overall, I didn't get hit w/ a single blue shell!  In fact, I was hardly tagged w/ anything (save the occasional lightning bolt).

Double Dash is were things got a little too "zany" and thus my hatred for blue shells began, and with this next iterations, will unfortunately continue.  Oh well, at least I can pop wheelies now, I think that makes it all better.....

I like when we get the broad based questions like the Metroid one, and even the VC with the GF to an extent.  They're longer to answer, but they're much more involved.

No, that one never happened.

Also one more comment about the Japanese and US Genesis hardware, I have to double check but I think what happened was in the US Genesis II took out the Z80 chip and games that used it were changed from the Japanese games because they never took it out in Japan because they kept that SMS converter going and over here they stopped selling it early on. At least I think that was how it went, I read it in a Sega Visions years ago or maybe EGM? I forget. I think there was a hardware difference between the two countries though. Now Europe I am not sure about though if they ever did any redesigns or not.

I just noticed by chance that this episode's description mentioned more Metroid talk so I gave it a listen.  I'm pretty much in full agreement with Jonny and Greg.  Definitely looking forward to that upcoming Metroid feature. :D

I loved the 2D Metroid games (Especially Super Metroid) but I prefer the direction Corruption is taking the series. The fleshed out story and more character interaction mixed with classic Metroid level design is perfect IMO. Maybe they could expand, the exploration aspects but I would like to see a world that is a bit more living without completely dumping the isolation aspect of Metroid.

I know how Johnny feels now, I cannot find my PSP ANYWHERE. Perhaps our DS and PSP ended up in the same abyss?

After listening to the podcast for the 5th time since monday, it got me thinking: the whole metroid series has alot of potential beyond the Prime trilogy. I have not finished Metroid yet because I suffer from motion sickness when i play that game and am taking it by stride. But the fact that Samus does not have any arch enemy like Bowser is to Mario not only gives the writers more creative freedom (as in, they could end the game in shroud of vagueness and flow it towards the second game) but also makes it possible to flow another story after the Prime Trilogy. That got me thinking, would the Legend of Zelda be better off without Ganon/Ganondorf? because i find that the Metroid story is more like a relationship while recent Zelda games are more like one-night stands.

Whoa, five times? FIVE TIME? BOOKER T??

There are other gaming podcasts out there if you want to diversify your diet.

I really cannot relate to ANY of the Zelda games without Ganon, just like I cannot relate to the Mario games without Bowser. Unlike Metroid which really wasn't entwined with any one creature (Besides maybe Ridley) the Mario and Zelda series are closely linked to their arch rivals.

Honestly, I think Ridley's starting to wear out his welcome.  How many times has Samus beaten him now?

You killed Ridley!  But now he's back.
You killed him again!  But now he's a robot.
You killed him again!  But now he's back again.
You killed him again!  But now he's a cyborg.
You killed him again!  But now he's back again.
You killed him again!  But now his remains have been absorbed by a parasite and frozen AND NOW HE'S BACK AGAIN!!!1

Enough!

Well I wouldn't care much if Ridley was dumped because, honestly, he has zero personality. He is a flying bird monster that is supposed to be smart, yet you get no indication of this.

Man, I fall behind on episodes and i get ROASTED =P

I'm not the only one on staff who played this much Pokemon Diamond and Pearl...

See, Pokemon is a mindless game... I can play it while watching TV and otherwise chilling out.  Also, I don't have ALL the pokemon yet.  =P

I can't wait for Pokemon Ranch so I can pick it up and play it again.

Yea!  So I finally made it to Episode 96.

RE:  I think if we did a poll Greg would come out on top.

I actually already did this (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=24288.0).  :)

Between the four of you, Crimm won.  Silks lost.

Jonathan "JonnyBoy" Metts    -  7  (6.5%)
James "Crimm" Jones  -  8  (7.4%)
Greg "Yoshidious" Leahy  -  5  (4.6%)
Jon "Silks" Lindemann    -  3  (2.8%)

Evan kicked all your asses.
