Title: Twitter
Post by: Pale on April 25, 2008, 10:24:46 AM
I know Twitter is kind of an old thing and all you facebook users see it as redundant, BUT, I just jumped on that bandwagon and I was wondering if any of you forumers use it as well so I can 'follow' you.
I'm @PaleZer0 (http://twitter.com/PaleZer0)

I see the app as completely pointless. I'm generally not doing anything remotely interesting enough to warrant sharing with my friends, let alone complete strangers.
As Ian's pointed out before, maybe I'm just getting old. We're part of the last generation that remembers a time before the Internet dominated everything. I was sixteen when I got on AOL.

I didn't even know what Twitter really was until Wednesday's Penny Arcade. It seems pretty lame to me, too.

We should totally start an old fogies Facebook group!!1!
Actually, you getting on AOL at 16 makes me feel pretty old. I got my first Intertubes connection when I started college. At least I was never an AOLer. That used to make me one of the elite, back when we still spelled elite with letters.

You're like a year older than I am. Don't get all high and mighty on me.

I can't even think of how I could make my day sound interesting. Does everyone who is constantly updating their MySpace or Facebook or Twitter or whatever always doing something cool?
Here's my status right now: at work goofing off on NWR forums.
Later it will switch to: - driving home - going to the mailbox - what to make for dinner? split between whether to have soup or Kraft Dinner - stupid cat keeps attacking my feet - watching the hockey game, Sean Avery's a dickhead - thinking about getting a Coke out of the fridge - going to the bathroom - still thinking about a Coke, almost got one on the way back from bathroom but forgot until I was already downstairs - Penguins score!! - F*ck it I'm getting a Coke - Constantly need to pee, shouldn't have had that Coke
Wowzers, isn't that exciting!! And on days when I do do something exciting the hell I'm ever going to think to constantly update my status. I would only think to do that when I'm bored.

I'm usually totally with you guys, Ian and Vudu....
I've resisted Twitter for a long time but something has finally thrown me over the edge and I'm getting into it.
I try to make my posts less "what I'm doing" an more commentary on stuff going on...
See, while I'm admitting to myself that no one cares about my daily routine, I'm still delusional about thinking people actual care about what I think.
All that said, I'm following you back daaaaaaaaaaman :)

I just read that also Mav :P
Look there are smart uses for twitter, if you had a ssb group you could twitter when you available.
NWR staff could use it to raise awareness about stories, etc.
Remember that you can update it via sms and have messages forward to everyones phone.

Some guy from the States was in Egypt, got arrested, Twittered that he was arrested, peeps from around the world got on the phone and made sure he got out ok. And he had to be convinced of the usefulness of Twittering a week earlier. Good thing the cops let him keep his phone...

It would be really useful if several of us were on this and we could shoot impressions to each other. Especially if staff were on this.
Been doing this all week for Mario Kart, except its on MSN, not twitter.

All staff members will be able to tweet cool stuff like immediate impressions on games they are reviewing and what not. If you are a Twitter person, follow us!
